Testing New Web Log Rotation System
Our current web log rotation system relies on our back-end automation system as well as steady access to our back-end database to run properly. It has been in place for many years and works fine most of the time but it is more complex than it needs to be and occasionally fails to work properly. That happened yesterday, for instance, and is the reason your logs may not have rotated. It worked properly today and everything is back up to date currently.
Rotating logs should not rely on other machines and we have developed a new version of the system that puts most of the work directly on the machine housing the logs, as it should be. The old system seemed like a good way to do it at the time, but it has not scaled well.
We are currently testing this new log rotation system on our hosting machine Orbital and will be widening the scope of the test to more machines if things go well. The first night of testing appears to have gone well.
If your hosting is on Orbital and you believe your web logs were not properly rotated last night (it would also prevent your Analog stats from running), let our support team know.
