Final Router Upgrade Post
Posted (September 13th, 2006 at 11:57 pm PST) by micahAll up!
There are still some stragglers but at this point 99% of your sites should be up. We still have admins and tech support staff on hand to watch over things and fix problems as they arise. If your site is still down or you’re experiencing some other problem go ahead and submit a support request.
As with the router replacement on Monday, we won’t know any concrete details on the affects of this upgrade for several hours. More information will be forthcoming tomorrow. Thanks for hanging in there with us!
Happy DreamHost No Sleep Yet Team!

Joining the up-all-night crowd - we ate some bad take-out and are up all night getting rid of it.

I just wanted to say I appreciate it guys! Seems like my site is zippy again, though hard to tell since our local ISP is doing some speed increases. You all rock!

why all the fuss. I hope the upgrade goes well

Thanx for the xtra hrs
True Geeks will sleep when we’re dead.

My TWiki web site has never been that fast before. Since it is not a critical application for me, I used to be quite happy with 5-10 sec response time. Now however it’s working smoothly like a (Swiss) clockwork. Thanks!

Crap. That means I have to update my pages again? Bah. I’ve been slacking and blaming you guys ;o)
Well done and *fingers crossed*
September 14th, 2006 at 2:00 am
Funny to see that when things go well 4/5ths of the comments vanish…
GOOD WORK DH! (let’s see if it works well for a time (^_^), I’ll migrate a new site soon
)
Cheers!

My sites are on STARBURST, they’re up now, but they’re slower than a snail damn it! FIX IT! Pffffffffffttt………..
September 14th, 2006 at 2:41 am
Ah nuts, was working fine before, now am one of the 99%
September 14th, 2006 at 4:36 am
The one-click installs seem to not be working anymore.
Don’t know if this is related. Hosting’s perfect outside of this.
September 14th, 2006 at 4:42 am
Now everyone can get back to making those Magrathean Mega Bucks!
Good job guys.
September 14th, 2006 at 4:44 am
What Kinda Captcha? Didn’t see that last time I posted. It asked me to enter a number then apporved my post. Then it goes to a page with no links so I had to go back twice and reload to get back here.
September 14th, 2006 at 6:14 am
My site has never been faster! All seems well for me.
September 14th, 2006 at 6:19 am
so far so good. Hope this finally fixed it.
September 14th, 2006 at 6:53 am
I can check my e-mail again. Huzzah!
Thanks, Dreamhosters. You rock!
September 14th, 2006 at 6:54 am
Wow Squirrel Mail is actually zippy. Good work.
September 14th, 2006 at 7:00 am
Finally! I *had* to choose the worst time to update all my sites and it’s been a case of updating while hoping the server wouldn’t go down again. Hope some of you guys get some sleep, but I will add my thanks for your not sleeping.
September 14th, 2006 at 7:12 am
Sweet! My site is pretty fast now, hopefully there won’t be any more problems.
September 14th, 2006 at 7:25 am
10:24 am site won’t load in 5 min.
I’m suggesting our club move outa here…
September 14th, 2006 at 7:26 am
Well done. I know how frustrating the last few days must have been. My little sites are all faster than they’ve ever been.
Go and have a beer. You deserve it.

September 14th, 2006 at 7:32 am
alexander - load average: 3.01, 3.06, 2.75
So far, no crashes yet.
September 14th, 2006 at 7:39 am
Thanks! My sites are up, and they definitely seem more responsive! Woohoo!
September 14th, 2006 at 7:46 am
I must be the unlucky sapp in the 1% group. None of my sites are working yet! Glad everyone else is so happy
September 14th, 2006 at 7:47 am
umm, all is not well
[nerds]$ uptime
07:45:45 up 17:07, 2 users, load average: 23.41, 13.65, 12.04
Seems like the network isn’t fixed or there’s some other issue with nerds or a filer
September 14th, 2006 at 7:54 am
Great service guys (and gals)!! It’s also great to be able to say “Thanks” for all that you do to keep our sites up and running. Just wish that there were as many Thank You’s as there were complaints in the other posts comments.
September 14th, 2006 at 7:54 am
I’m just curious who hosts THIS particular domain, since it seems to be the most stable one yet.
September 14th, 2006 at 7:55 am
My IMAP email is actually still really, really slow. But everything’s fixed, right???
September 14th, 2006 at 8:01 am
HTTP ports seem to be passing traffic just fine. We are still dead in the water with SVN support though. Are those ports turned off or being firewalled? Hmmmppfffff.
September 14th, 2006 at 8:03 am
BTW, I think SVN communicates on the TCP port 3690.
September 14th, 2006 at 8:15 am
Grad to know that i’m in the 1% that all my sites aren’t working… i’m very nervous right now. If tomorrow aren’t good. i’m switching to webair or else.
I love been on vacancy but only when i’m planning this! Since a month a can’t work normally.
Dave, i used to be happy customer.
September 14th, 2006 at 8:25 am
My site is still down (as usual in the last month)
Unhappy to see that the third this-is-the-good-one update didn’t work
September 14th, 2006 at 8:26 am
MY SITE IS STILL DOWN.
IF YOU 2 ARE DOWN THEN RECOMMEND A SITE FOR IMM. TRANSFER

September 14th, 2006 at 8:31 am
MySQL totally unavailable. This upgrade gets a D-.
September 14th, 2006 at 8:35 am
My site´s still down now!!!
-*-*-**-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
Sometimes up, sometimes down!!!
It´s horrible.
Please, check my site as soon as possible.
Thanks.
September 14th, 2006 at 8:35 am
True that, mySql is running about 4-5 times slower today than it has been for the past couple of months (that’s of course to say when mySql has been up, which is maybe 80% of the time). MY websites not using a database on the backend are faster than they have ever been.
September 14th, 2006 at 8:45 am
My sites were running fine until about 20 minutes ago … now I can’t FTP, can’t SSH, can’t HTTP… *sigh* …
September 14th, 2006 at 8:47 am
I spoke too soon. I had IMAP access for about three minutes, but now it’s going horrendously slow again, and timing out.
Fun…
September 14th, 2006 at 8:49 am
I think edendale might be iffy at this moment. My site’s getting 500ms -> timeout pings, and it’s not really loading.
September 14th, 2006 at 8:54 am
Thanks guys for keeping us updated
Always great service from the DH team
September 14th, 2006 at 8:57 am
if anyone of the grumblers can do this any better then why dont they contact Dreamhost and offer to do it for them so the team can get some rest
I’m generally not in the habit of PAYING someone for a service and then offering to do it myself.
September 14th, 2006 at 8:58 am
i’ve not really experienced any of the troubles you folk are talking about, except that in the past 15 hours new sub-domains i’ve created through webpanel havent actually been created at all, even though they are listed in webpanel. not sure if this problem is related or is a new one, and as much as it’s annoying at present, it’s the only problem i’ve really ever had, so i’m happy to sit it out for a coupla days and see what happens.
keep up the good work team, it’s night time here atm (AU) so hopefully you’ve been home and had some shuteye
Ant, Happy DH customer
September 14th, 2006 at 9:01 am
my sites seem to load faster too!
September 14th, 2006 at 9:01 am
Glad to hear some of you are up and tickled with DH.
As far as I can tell it’s “same sh*t different day. We are outta here as soon as the site is up long enough to get the files - which at this rate could be next year.
September 14th, 2006 at 9:11 am
Things seem to be a lot better than last month. Keep up the good work folks!

“Final Router Upgrade Post”
Talk about unwarranted optimism…!
September 14th, 2006 at 9:14 am
hey Ridor,

September 14th, 2006 at 9:18 am
All my sites on archibald machine are down, more than two hours ago.
Reported outage to support and it states:
“1 hour 23 mins ago: Outage verified: We are actively looking into resolving it.”
Not happy customer, not at all. C’mon, when everything will be back in normal?
September 14th, 2006 at 9:19 am
The last days my sites and mail is stremly slow, when they aren’t totally down….
We are too many people in this 1% of sites down, doesn’t you?
will be a discount or special offer in the next renovation of the service? we are paying for a bad service lately
