Automatic update scheduling backed up
Posted (September 14th, 2006 at 9:45 am PST) by andreaIt appears that the automatic update scheduler service wasn’t turned back on last night after finishing with the network upgrades. We turned them back on about half and hour ago, but it may take a while for them to catch up. This affects all new additions and changes made through the control panel, such as adding a domain, changing user password, doing a one-click install, just to name a few.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Does this include mysql databases b/c none of my sites using a mysql database works
September 14th, 2006 at 10:03 am
Me too. My Joomla site is down. I wish they would be more specific with the messages. But it is comforting (?) to know that someone else is having the same problem. Maybe that’s what this board is for….

Yep same, looks like mysql databases are down.

Hi MP,
I’ve been having email problems (on and off) for a couple of days… Time-outs, unable to contact, etc.
September 14th, 2006 at 10:18 am
Man you guys just can’t suck enough. SHOCKINGLY bad service.
September 14th, 2006 at 10:24 am
My site is down again as well.. sigh.
September 14th, 2006 at 10:30 am
Yes, all my sites are either down or take 1 hour to load up =(
Dreamhost sure has had a bad few weeks. I hope you guys can sort out all the problems asap. It would be nice to have things working again.
However, I would like to say that apart from the bad 2 week patch DH has been a great service. Maybe you should give up on Cisco equiptment. Having worked for them aswell as Nortel I wouldn’t recommend their products to anyone.

mine is just going uber slow
September 14th, 2006 at 10:36 am
Long on excuses and short of performance.. time to see elsewhere I guess.
September 14th, 2006 at 10:37 am
During all of this trouble I have not had an downtime / issues other than the planned down time. Even if I did you get what you pay for. I know that I do not have ANY uptime guarantee.
Either cancel your service and go else where OR stop whining.

Bye dreamhost.
One word : redundancy
September 14th, 2006 at 10:46 am
it takes me 15 mins to check 1 email. this is retarded
September 14th, 2006 at 10:48 am
Hey all, I’m starting a dreamhost-killer hosting service. I have a beige g3 tower and a t1 — who’s with me?
September 14th, 2006 at 10:54 am
10:53:54 up 2 days, 9:54, 3 users, load average: 92.29, 85.55, 80.01
September 14th, 2006 at 10:57 am
9 sites up every day throughout the issues -email problems? NONE but then again none of the sites use the bandwidth or harddrive space thats available-
September 14th, 2006 at 11:02 am
I have 3 sites and none of them are working at all. All I get is:
Proxy Error
The proxy encountered an error.
Please try again later.

Regardless of Dan’s comments of no downtime, I have been having major problems with mysql, routing, mail access and general performance for over a month now. After being a Dreamhost client for over 5 years and having hosted dozens of sites successfully at Dreamhost, this summer has seen a major downward change in service. Tech support requests take MANY times longer to be answered than before, service interuptions are common and accessibility has been abismal lately. I’ve lost 50% of my cash flow due to a major client firing me last month over site accessibility and have spent countless hours re-auditing my own code thinking I might have been causing my own site problems only to discover after many posts later it is a Dreamhost problem.
I am VERY close to severing my ties to Dreamhost. This after referring more than a dozen other accounts to them over the years.

This really sux two weeks after I pony up for another annual renewal fee. I can’t go somewhere else cause I gave all my money to DH.
So I guess all I can do is whine…..

To Dan: Not everyone can move to a new server so quickly especailly when databases are concerned. Lets not also forget that many people make the mistake of registering their domain names via their hosting providers because its easy; transfering domains isn’t always a snap and can be complicated for those who aren’t familiar with the steps.
Some people’s businesses are in jeopardy if their sites aren’t up and it IS critical that DreamHost fix their problems and fast; people will go elsewhere if this turns into anything longer than it already is - myself included. I’m sure that DH is doing what they can because there are a lot of providers out there who will take their customers the first chance they get. DH knows this and understands that market pressures will punish their business if service isn’t what it ought to be. Thier business is in jeopardy too.
But to those who are angry at them and use single words like redundency or backup… Where is YOUR redundency? Why don’t you mirror your site with another hosting service and change your DNS records with your registrar? How come you are relying on only one hosting service when you should have two? Cost? What’s another $7 dollars a month for backup? You have no excuse either and are just as blind to failures as you claim they are.
Yes, they need to fix this.
Yes, they need to make up for these issues.
Yes, they should have had some protecion in place - maybe they do but BOTH suffer from bad performance.
and yes, YOU ALL should have your own backup hosts ready.
IMHO

I’ll throw in my old Amiga. Anyone wanna donate a linksys router?
September 14th, 2006 at 11:21 am
I have a few bricked linksys routers, those should provide sufficient throughput, right?
September 14th, 2006 at 11:42 am
mysql is back up and working.
September 14th, 2006 at 2:40 pm
I’ve noticed that the access.log files for all of my sites (they’re on snicker) haven’t been updated since 10:40 AM.
September 17th, 2006 at 7:02 am
I have had about 6 minutes of downtime on my web site (most of those downtimes are its dependancy on MySQL).
I’m happy enough for the 15 a month or whatever it is. If I had a business critical site, I wouldn’t cheap out and come here.
