Network / Stability update!

Posted (September 17th, 2006 at 3:03 pm PST) by Brian

So far, things are looking much better as far as our network work goes. For now, we’re concentrating on any servers that may still be experiencing slowness, regardless of network performance.

If you are experiencing problems, please write us a support message with the subject “Server Slow Status” and we’ll get right on it.

This will help us narrow down any machines that need to be offloaded or otherwise troubleshot! =)

Please don’t shoot the servers. We’re having enough troubles keeping them up. You’ve swapped out 4 servers in the last week? You’ve got to be running out of spares….

Thanks for all the diligent work. These were tough times for sure, and it wasn’t always easy to be patient, but it’s sure reassuring to know that things are on the mend. That’s all I’ll say for fear of jinxing anything.

Just a quick question, when was the power outage that was supposable the cause of the network problems?

Great work, everything is much much better. I really hated harassing you guys about Webmail every few days :) Thanks for the fixes and all the time you spent!

Well.. this is first time since I signed up two months ago that my poor little toy of a site didn’t take 15 seconds to loads. Looks like you may have it licked this time. Good work guys!

Thanks for all the hard work - I’ve run into some nasty situations that are a bitch to get out of, but nothing like the DH team has worked through. I didn’t get affected by most of the slowdowns many others did (yeah, it was slower at times, but not unbearable) - I count myself lucky I guess. In any case, thanks again!

… also, great job on fixing the servers. Now people will stop ranting and raving about you guys.

So, everything has been running nice and smooth! Keep up the good work!

Note: I’m getting someone else’s name/website typed in by default in the leave a reply section.
Caching issue?

“Note: I’m getting someone else’s name/website typed in by default in the leave a reply section.”

That’s odd. I got yours, so did you get the person before you, or someone random?

I’ve only been a customer for a short time (no more than two months), and the dedication and level of commitment you all have shown has cemented my decision to choose Dreamhost as my webhost (as well as recommend it several times).

The server I’m on, Chiclet, hasn’t been hit too hard (if at all) by the recent problems, though the mail server did have some funky authentication problems awhile back.

Regardless, the issues suffered through the past few weeks have been – to grossly understate – difficult. The openness of yourselves, as well as your overall attitude has been far better than I would ever have expected. The openness, especially, is appreciated. My previous host would fail for days, magically reappear, and never utter a word as to why. Knowing what is happening is a real confidence booster.

In the end, problems happen It’s how one deals with them that matters. Keep up the great work!

I Hope this is the end of all the issues
even if most of the issues I’ve seen are just people over reacting to issues
but thats just what I see anyways
though quito is a little slow still
but ibmdryer and morgan still good

All 9 of the websites are down as of 8.35 am GMT today (Monday September 18th).

that’s so weird ours too

I know some customers (well, ok, ME!) had not been too patient on everything. For one, I lost several hours of valuable ad revenue generating time that can never been recovered. But in any case, I want to say thanks for all your hard work addressing the network issue and your patience dealing with our angry emails! :)

SITE IS STILL DOWN.

WHAT. THE. %$&*@(. DREAMHOST?

Hey DH, nice job on all your efforts and hard work recently. There are a-holes from other hosting companies roaming these blogs, acting like customers with issues, but were starting to see their pattern. Like Josh Wolf, who just registered a new site with Dreamhost 3 days ago whois meeple2meeple.com. Nice language Josh. Still Down?. He/she is probably some sales person for aplus hosting, who will eventually come in and say, “I am moving to aplus hosting and getting my money back, cause dh sucks and my site’s been down for months.”

I hope all of the complaining princesses leave, all the spammers from other hosting companies can go hose themself off.

All of my 121 sites on 19 servers at dreamhost are all working. All my email is working. All of my mysql databases are working. So, thanks dreamhost.

And, to those who are legitimately on the “slow” servers that are having problems because of this particular blog, hope you get things sorted out.

Candice

Much faster, nice. System load is down (on fletcher), and imap and ssh respond much more quickly.

At one time before all of this downtime and unacceptable lag on my sites I was a passionate user of DH. I think today’s article on “screaming users” being a good thing may be a good read for folks who have a little time freed up from no longer having to chase down outages.

Enjoy

My site is still down… i think its on Harpo - getting pissed

Just wanted to note that I’ve been a LONG-TIME customer of DH. I happened to register a new domain for a new project around the time DH was having its catastrophic issues. I don’t work for another hosting company. So suck it, Candice.

A blog wouldn’t be a blog without the comments from other people - i think its a great idea.
