Ryu’s kungfu is weak

Posted (September 23rd, 2006 at 4:46 pm PST) by JamesH

Webserver Ryu has experienced some sort of hardware issue and is currently being moved onto new hardware. If you’re site is hosted on Ryu it should be up within an hour, we’ll post an update here when we have more news.

Fake update: Save != Publish. Ryu’s all up now, if any of your sites hosted on Ryu aren’t working please write to support and let us know.

Loving the inventive titles…This one tops the rest though.

I love how I’m not the only one who’s had that problem with wordpress Xd
and I do agree
thats one of the best titles ever

It’s not just the post titles - some of the server names are great too.

Good job on the updates guys.

That raises an interesting question (at least it is for me), how do you guys pick names for all of your many, many servers? Do you take it in turns to pick a name, or do you all put a name in a hat and draw one out, or do you have some sort of naming system or what?

I love how the status page is so informal as well, The Internet isnt the be all and end all of life, if you cant develop your site offline then you need to start looking into it! All of our websites get developed and rigorously tested on our own offline server and then once we are happy with the site, its just an upload of a zip file and tada, the site is grand! The names are funky, sometimes I think the DH guys have “too much time” on their hands :p

It all makes for great reading and entertainment, thanks DH :)

Hmm. Status says all is now well, but selma just began returning sql errors. *wanders off to check a few things*

Ryu practices Shotokan Karate…

You guys should refer to the data center as “The Dojo” from now on. ;)

Is it possible that data from the databases got lost? We experienced some errors just now (so I assume we’re on Ryu :P) but now I’m removed from one of my own forums, and it’s just generally messed up.. will that be fixed?

Okay, ignore me, I was mixing up the date of this post. However, still there were problems (friend says we’re on the server pringles), we got errors on the domains, database errors and as I said, one of my forum’s databases is messed up and removed me, appearantly….. Can someone tell me what happened before I start messing with my own database? x3? Thanks!

restore to a recent backup of the DB?
if its phpbb forum it may have been hacked
happens all the time
and might wanna check to see if you can connect to the DB from the panel or CLI
theres instruction on the panel on how to do that in the goodies section

also
as for the names
I think they bought a book with a bunch of random names and threw it into random parser
either that or they ask the local hobo for random names
or maybe the employee the random hobo O:

I’m on Butler….using Joomla
I’ve noticed the following:-

Significant slowdown in refresh times on the front page
Links from the front page are very very slow - often timing out
Back end access seems to be ok - if a little slow.

We have a max of 2 people logged on and we’re getting this problem - hate to see what happens when we go ‘live’ !!!!

I say Dreamhost add a “Suggest A New Server Name” link to the control panel!

I suggest “Hell” because that’s what it’s becoming to have a website hosted here. I switched from using a blogger.com front end to full hosting here with wordpress and still every two or three days something’s broken (like right now). Can you imagine having a car like that?

The folks here are responsive, helpful, and downright nice –but the hardware sux.

And besides, then they could post that “Hell froze over…”

Ryu as in Goju-Ryu?

Can I assume this is still a problem as my weather site is still timing out uploading. 5 minutes vs. less then 1 second.

This is getting to be ridiculous. Much like hardedge, my site seems to go down for a few hours every couple of days.

I’m really regretting prepaying for a year.

Same here. Site has been down on and off today

I can’t access the web panel to submit an error report, so hoping someone will read this here:

http and mail is down (http://www.chatetheory.com amoung others). SSH seems to be working fine.

Even doing ls ~/Maildir/cur/ causes SSH to hang:
[alvarado]$ ls ~/Maildir/cur/

**** HANGS

SWEET! Over two days without an update to dreamhoststatus.com. I’m rooting for you, Dreamhost…

I’m on Twix and MySQL has been down/spotty the entire day. Just lettin y’all know; I’ve filled out my support ticket.

My sites haven’t gone down lately. This is F’n sweet.

Ok, so it has been +24h now and twix´s sql is still down, support ticket is getting old and i´m getting really upset.

“Can you imagine having a car like that?”

Sure can, and I paid way more than $10 a month for it.

So you’re saying you had an unrelaibly piece of hardware and you shelled out big buck$ for it and you smiled all the way to the proctologist? I guess David Hannum was right.

I can’t say I smiled but I sure felt like I went there. I owned a Ford.

The difference between Ford and Dreamhost is that I’ll stick with Dreamhost.

I think someone should build a site that has a counts on how many days/hrs it has been since the last dreamhost status post . It would give you an easy way to see how stable the network is at any given time.

Not really Jay.
meow was unresponsive for ~45 minutes. Nothing in the status. An hour after I reported it, it was up and the reply was “We didn’t see anything wrong”

My site has been blazing fast for the last 4 months also the forums and never a bit of downtime and this month I used up 900 Gigs bandwidth! Dreamhost you rock! (For me at least :P)

I guess you gotta be lucky with your server…

DH, this is lame, my site has been out for a couple of hours, after being out for an hour earlier today. I’ve sent an enquiry to DH. Heard back after the first outtage, but not after thisc current one. This has gotten unnacceptible for me. Way too many outtages lately.

Our site is currently down, please fix it!

Is the webpanel down now???? I don’t get accessing it……….

Dreamhost…YOU ROCK!!!

Our site has never been faster…it’s blazing fast now, compared to a few months ago. This is sweet! Thanks for working so hard for us users. Trust me, it didn’t go unnoticed.

Having some problems getting messages out today. Some go, so don’t.

I find it hilarious when Joe Nobody complains that his blog that doesn’t really do anything except shares his boring life with the world is down for a few hours.. Haha.. I say take that downtime and go do something exciting then when the site comes back up, write about it!.

I have a borling blog like that and I could care less when it’s up or down. It’s not making me money, it’s not a crucial business asset. If it were, I would probably not put it on a shared server ;)

Anyway. I’ll be true to my vows.. for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health. DH, in my tiny existence you’re all I need baby… ;)
