MySQL machine ‘demeter’ down (Not anymore!)

Posted (September 30th, 2006 at 8:30 am PST) by Karl

Demeter didn’t want to come back after a reboot. An admin is en route to the datacenter now to remedy the problem. No ETA at this time, but we’re hoping no more than 1-2 hours.

Looks like it was just powered off. Its networking was being flaky, so I attempted a reboot, still nothing. Often times a powercycle will re-start the network cards properly, as they never go off due to Wake-on-LAN. Ran `halt` to bring the system down safely, and the thing powered off! None of our other servers do that. :(

The long powercycle seems to have done it, the databases are back online and showing their usual queries per second.

That will teach me to safely shutdown my machines before rebooting!

Seems to be back up again now. I wonder why it keeps going down?
