Switch Update
Posted (October 5th, 2006 at 6:37 pm PST) by micahWe’ve done a couple things since the last post regarding the malfunctioning switch. The switch firmware has been upgraded and the final reboot this entailed seems to have brought everything back up in normal working order. We’ve isolated a few suspect machines to see if the problems follow them or if it is indeed just a network hardware issue.
Our techs and admins are standing by tonight in case this issue pops up again.

Thanks for taking care of the problem and for keeping us up to date!

I think you should make the “techs” sleep in the data center every night.

I am still having problems on my site, running WordPress. When I do get to see error messages, it is saying something about how one or several DB tables have crashed and the automatic reactivation of them (or something similar) has been unsuccessful…

For every problem that gets reported on this page I’m sure there are dozens that don’t get mentioned. My email was out for 3-1/2 hours today with no mention of it here. I use the spunky mail cluster so I’m sure there were lots of other people with the same outage.
October 5th, 2006 at 7:25 pm
Shnooky seems to be down… no mention of it anywhere… anyone else?
October 5th, 2006 at 7:34 pm
I think I’m on achilles? Only one of my sites is screwed up though, even though they’re all hosted on the same account…
October 5th, 2006 at 8:04 pm
my site http://www.wallyx.com on Willie, is going so slow. I wonder whats going on.
October 5th, 2006 at 8:08 pm
“For every problem that gets reported on this page I’m sure there are dozens that don’t get mentioned.”
Well, duh, dude, they have like 300,000 domains hosted.
October 5th, 2006 at 8:10 pm
Tim Boucher, you’re on Achilles?
Ouch. How’d you ever let them talk you into being placed on a server named Achilles?
Be real, man, you can’t say you didn’t know what you were potentially getting into…
October 5th, 2006 at 8:14 pm
“Well, duh, dude, they have like 300,000 domains hosted”
I should have said: For every problem that gets reported on this page I’m sure there are dozens that affect hundreds of customers and don’t get mentioned
October 5th, 2006 at 8:14 pm
Hey, who’s hosting dreamhoststatus.com? That site’s always up!!!
October 5th, 2006 at 8:51 pm
the database servers are acting screwy on my domains since the downtime a few days ago but they say nothing is wrong … very frustrating
October 5th, 2006 at 9:37 pm

October 5th, 2006 at 11:00 pm
Getting Server Request Failed on any page that uses php or sql.
October 5th, 2006 at 11:18 pm
It’s back up.
October 5th, 2006 at 11:33 pm
I’m having issues with my forums. It’s currently saying:
phpBB : Critical Error
Could not connect to the database
October 5th, 2006 at 11:54 pm
Me too…am a new customer, and it’s pretty hard troubleshooting your own site when you can’t (mostly) rule out the server being at fault.
For example, have been trying to connect my site to the database all night…and then finally, I got my site working. Database, users, all of that. It’s not ready for public consumption yet, but I can’t work on it anymore tonight because it appears the database server is down.
I do appreciate all of the hard work, I read over both Dreamhost blogs and it seems you guys are really committed. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come…I’d like to move another few sites over here eventually.

Can someone tell me what needs to be done for my problem:
WordPress database error: [Table './wordpress/wp_posts' is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed]
My site is down for 8 hours now.
October 6th, 2006 at 1:03 am
Site is back down again. What the hell?
October 6th, 2006 at 1:11 am
Database is down for the second time tonight. I needed to go to bed anyway, I guess. It’s the hand of god telling me it’s bedtime.
October 6th, 2006 at 1:13 am
this is not good! I’m crossing me fingers hoping this is just bad timing. I’m a two-day-old new customer and I’m questioning my decision to leave ipowerweb. I never had issues like this with them.
errr … hopefully I’ll feel better about this decision very soon.
luckily the onlinenic is a right bastard as well and getting them to do anything with my domain is taking bloody forever and a day.
October 6th, 2006 at 2:42 am
Its really annoying to take a break because the site stops responding and come back after an entire dinner and movie and still have the same problem. Its 3am, i had a deadline of 11pm.
October 6th, 2006 at 2:46 am

October 6th, 2006 at 5:39 am
My website on Warhead is down.
October 6th, 2006 at 5:57 am
Same. Warhead down.
October 6th, 2006 at 6:25 am
Selma is still down again. I just got transferred to Selma, i had more down time than up time. Been with dremhost over a year now never had these kinds of problems, but i guess since i am working with a deadline of being 100% live next week with a monster e-commerce website and new business presence it makes perfect since to have very limited time to test and build upon the database.
October 6th, 2006 at 6:25 am
My site on.. genki (I think?) is down as well. Webmail/telnet seems fine tho.
October 6th, 2006 at 6:36 am
It appears that Dalila.stimpy.dreamhost.com is offline and it is storing the mySQL databases for my site and lots of others. My webservices are fine on Kroner but anything with SQL is hosed. I’ve reported the issue, lets see how long it takes to get a reply…
October 6th, 2006 at 7:28 am
For like the 4th day in a row and 6th day of 7, my site is experiencing outages. Wow. Just wow.
October 6th, 2006 at 7:31 am
Wow. Unbelievable. My forum users can’t believe the downtime. I’m hanging on by a thread with DH.
October 6th, 2006 at 7:53 am
My site, wishtips.com, has been down for about 18% of the time (according to my monitoring software) for the past six days. This is really incredible. I am on selma….I think I am either on a bad server, or a datacenter mosh-pit - being trash around up and down.
October 6th, 2006 at 7:53 am
Thank you for your great efforts!
October 6th, 2006 at 7:55 am
John:
Another unlucky selma user. What monitoring software is that, btw?
Thanks
October 6th, 2006 at 8:04 am
I’m on selma too. This amount of downtime is, frankly, outrageous.
October 6th, 2006 at 8:05 am
The lack of status updates is very very dissapointing. (again)
With a recognized problem over the last week - you would think the DH would make an extra effort to keep us informed.
October 6th, 2006 at 8:33 am
still no status update
very very dissapointing.
October 6th, 2006 at 8:51 am
http://www.site24×7.com - I’ve liked it so far.
October 6th, 2006 at 8:54 am
I get this error when using databases…
Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
October 6th, 2006 at 9:01 am
I’ve realized that it only happens with some tables on the same database… but I haven’t changed anything and before everything worked…
What can I do?
October 6th, 2006 at 9:11 am
@3ARRANO
“What can I do?”
ask in the support forum…
