Problem with Aviation Server
We are aware of the problem with the ‘aviation’ web server and are working on resolving it. The issue appears to be specific to just that server. The main symptom is very slow loading websites. This is not related to any mysql, email, or any other issue other than aviation itself.
Update: 3:28PM PST
Aviation is currently being moved to new hardware. We belive the problem to be due to network cards going bad. Expected time for service to return to normal is about 15-20 minutes.
Update: 5:22PM PST
Aviation was back up as of about 4:00PM PST and has been working normally since then. No other servers were affected by this issue and any other problems you have be experiencing are unrelated. If you are experiencing a service issue, please make sure you have contacted our support team.

I’m on the wiggum server and I have the exact same issue, website loads slow as molasses, so I don’t think its just one server..

I’m on the willie server and although it works, it’s quite slow. Hopefully this issue will be cleared up soon.

Because there is no such thing as 100% uptime, especially at these dirt-cheap prices. If you think you can do better, start your own hosting company and see what happens. My guess is that you’d be out of business in less than a month.
I know it’s frustrating when your site is getting hit. But for these prices, you’re getting far more support than you would at most other hosting companies. The hosting company I was with before DH cost the same, had similar downtime issues, and charged me for six months after I’d moved my sites off, until I threatened to hale them into court. The grass is always greener on the other side . . .

This issue only affected aviation. It was a specific issue that was due to a hardware problem on the server itself. Aviation is now fine and this problem is no longer ongoing.
I took quick looks at both wiggum and willie and both look more or less ok at the moment, though wiggum’s load has been more erratic than normal.
If you are having a problem with a server and it is not mentioned in a post here, assume it is not a known problem and contact our support team.

It would be nice if the support team actually responded to me. My site has been down all day due to a MySQL problem, and reading the comments here I’m not the only one having it. Something is obviously majorly wrong and there is no status update, and nothing out there to give me any indication it is even being worked on. This is making me reconsider keeping my website here once my first year runs out.

Gaz,
There are dozens if not hundreds of different programs, languages, etc. that clients insist on using, often several per website with widely varying websites even amongst the same client, things break, people make mistake, technology and web capabalities are advancing at lightning speed, and shit happens, as you put it, generally once a day.
Ooh, couldn’t resist that. Terrible pun, I know.
The fact is that higher reliability requires an order of magnitude or greater financial investment with at least a virtual dedicated server (i.e., not necessarily dedicated, but close… only a few clients per box) and a dedicated support person managing the box and all programs on it.
It will still go down, so of course, you need to mirror this at at least one other data center and make sure everything is always synced. Oh, and the other data centre has to be in a completely different geographic location, on a different power grid and different Tier-1 bandwidth pipelines.
Now we’re talking at least 2 orders of magnitude greater investment. Do you have the budget for it? Neither do I.
It will still go down due to software glitches, etc. Just not as much.
