Webpanel Issues
Posted (October 13th, 2006 at 9:54 pm PST) by JamesHThere are some problems creating emails and doing one-click installs. We’re currently investigating this, and hope to have it resolved shortly, we’ll post an update when we do.

Is this affecting the creation of users as well?
Ahhh… makes more sense now - my panel doesn’t display any previously installed packages - they’ve all dissappeared sometime in the last few days. So thats probably why I can’t see them when I try to install them… and why they won’t work.
Wow, you’re already on it. ;p Just noticed that myself in the past hour trying to upgrade a forum and create a wordpress blog. In the case of the forum, the folder was renamed, the new one was installed, but didn’t look like the db was altered. For wordpress doesn’t look like anything happend when i tried, except creating an empty database. No emails for success/failure.
Yeah same issue here.. trying to set up a Wordpress Blog and nothing happens…. its telling me success, but the site is still empty - so ill working on something else in the meantime until they got this fixed up ![]()
Yes, I’ve been waiting about 30 minutes for the Wordpress blog Email to come and haven’t recieved anything.
My existing dbs were fine (WordPress), but I’ve got no email on a Gallery install and the directory gives me a 404. We’ll wait and see. ![]()
I’m also seeing problems with user creation and with changing passwords. Changes I made nearly three hours ago haven’t happened yet. Is that the same problem or a different one?
This is my 1st time installing a Wordpress blog — does this mean I’ll need to go thru the 1 click install process again?
Tx.
Is this also affecting websites? Mine seems down ![]()
Just incase it hadn’t been brought to your attention, the domain reg. is down at the moment.
“Internal Error: Unable to check domain availability at this time. Please try again later!”
it has been over 9 hours and still no one click installs……whats going on……..
adamskee, i agree with you there. I’m guessing that “shortly” was a relative term not a precise estimate ![]()
Any luck!!?? Trying to install Wordpress and was told that it would be 10 minutes… its almost been an hour! ![]()
my site was down for more than 2 days… I just change the hosting and is working.
any update on the status of this issue? I am hoping to install a Wordpress some time soon.
I was able to create a user so it can’t be fully broken. But it could also be that my server isn’t having issues.
AAAAARRRGGGHHH, I can’t do anything untill this is fixed, AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH please fix it!!
Actually I can’t add any other new domain… and I really need this… when I tried to contact the support, the form mail does’t work either. :S
I really hope that this will be fixed soon!!!
hm, i just can create new mail accounts and they appear in the panel menu, BUT they don’t work actually…I set up different new email accounts, but i can’t do anything with them. Aynone with the same problems?
ı can not reach to webmail of one my domains but the others are works fine. i had completely disable webmail and enable again but it still doesnt work. Please help
Well, I am also blocked by this problem (new users are in ‘clock’ mode and not created yet), but let’s wish good luck to tech guys and I hope they will manage to fix it quickly
DreamHost, we are here and supporting you! ![]()
I’ve been trying to cut over Email for a domain, (Email previously hosted elsewhere) since this morning. I was able to remove the custom MX record, but now none of the new DNS updates are occurring. So I moved on to the next step, which was a couple one click installs for some sub-hosts on this same domain.
I only now decided to check status.dreamhost.com, stupid me. At least I am not going crazy like I thought I was. M.O. still seems to be one-clicks aren’t working. DNS updates aren’t happening in a timely way. Bummer since I tranferred my friends’ Email to host from DH. All we can do is wait I guess. They’ll get it fixed eventually. Hopefully before I leave my friends’ house tomorrow morning. I wanted to reconfigure their workstations in the office before I go.
I was able to create subdomains earlier today (probably about a few hours ago), but starting an hour or so ago, the system quit updating DNS info…so my new subdomains aren’t working (although it shows to be created successfully in the Control Panel). Argh. One-clicks have been out for me all day as well.
First, sorry my bad engish. I´m brazillian and don´t speak english very well.
I create a new domain some days ago, and today I upload the website and create a first email to contact. The website is ok, but webmail I can´t access…
What I need to do?
I’ve problems creating new mailboxes. The mail accounts didn’t work and they apear like mail forwarding :?. Anyone with the same issue?
PD: Sorry for my english
ok….so it has been over 20 hours with no email setup, DNS, one click installs, etc………..come on dreamhost……….you re shooting yourself in the foot, these are the services that we are here for………you are certainly making it hard for anyine new to your service.
I creating new mailboxes for a new domain few days ago and work apparently well.
But, if I change the mailboxes password by http://mailboxes.{domain}, this don’t works pass 2 days in http://webmail.{domain}!
I change the password again six hours ago and this not change.
:S
You’re killng me here…
You’re killing me here… I needed a Zen Cart yesterday!
Just adding to the confirmed list - No luck either with creating email mailboxes. Tried changing / syncing the password for a new mailbox created earlier today that wasn’t/isn’t accessible, and it is still not working. Thank you DH for your efforts in working on the problem. - Ben
Oh what the heck? Anyone having any luck with one click installs yet? I was able to register new domains today, but havent’ been able to do anything with them. ![]()
No luck on the one click installers.
at least I can still shell in and do it myself.
tick tock - 24 hours later…
Webmail has not been working for my domain since this morning.
Have not been able to do one click installs either.
Please fix this soon.
No luck on One-Click installs Apparently.. ![]()
A domain registration is lagging for me, and I can’t install PHPBB for my friend so he can try it out! Arg!
One step installs worked earlier in the day for me, but not now…
24 hours???? ejem ejem
My sites down. Dreamhost.com is slow. Panel.dreamhost is down.
What happened did a rack collapse and killed somone?
15min later its working.. yipee
my one click installs and DNS and mail are all back - 24 hours…..thanks
Stats aren’t working now…
Brings up a 404 error when you try and access then.
*yawn*… getting tired of this inadequacy!
Okay, I just tried to do a One-click install. And now I am checking DNS for Email/Webmail. We shall see if it is working as Ali claims…
Na, it still isn’t working. The one-click install hasn’t been fixed. The users I’ve added still can’t get webmail (because of DNS), nor can they pop their Email (except for one).
This was a scheduled trip out of town, to help my friends cutover to new Email.
This has pretty much been a waste of my weekend.
Before I knew of this bug, I deleted a domain from the control panel to try and fix the problem myself. It is still in the DNS table, however, so I can neither re-add it or do a one-click install on it… I haven’t been able to test the one-click installs for obvious reasons. FWIW, I’m on ‘barry’.
Just Joined DH.
NO ONE TOLD ME SUPPORT WORKS BANKERS HOURS!!!!
ok - it is down again–i did get an install of wordpress but then it stopped working on another install….
so when is this going to be fixed??
I am fine installing WP manually if this is going to take another day to fix or something - Just need to have an IDEA on when this is going to get fixed.
My site is Down… My sites down. Dreamhost.com is extremly slow… what happen?
Sunday morning hangover FTL?
I’m beginning to think the same thing about the hangovers… and their party pictures on the front page isn’t helping.
Seems that DreamHost is having some verified problems today with their hosting services. Here is the status according to my support panel:
1 hour 5 mins ago: Outage verified: We are actively looking into resolving it.
1 hour 19 mins ago: Outage first reported.
Seems someone is behind the wheel, they just aren’t driving very fast. I’m hoping it will be resolved soon, though I am disappointed that dreamhoststatus.com doesn’t have any updates posted about it.
still nothing…
To be fair sometimes it can be hard to find what’s causing the problem so that you can fix it. This is also the first time I remember the panel being down since I signed up with Dreamhost almost two years ago. That said, I’d really at least like some kind of update on the situation. Even just a note that they’re having trouble isolating the problem would help a lot. It’s just been so long since they made this post now with no updates. ![]()
Come on, Dreamhost! I love you very much but if this keeps up I’m going to be looking to take my business elsewhere soon.
Combined with the lack of secure email (I HATE having to tell outlook to ignore the lack of security certificates… for the premium price we pay for hosting here), the m-f 9-5 support hours (who here gets lucky enough to only work those hours?), constant bugs, the fact that WEBMAIL HAS NEVER WORKED without a miracle from the holy father himself, and all these other bugs…
I don’t think I’ll be renewing.
Having an enormous amount of webspace (that most of us will never obtain more than 10% of our alloted usage) doesn’t make up for sub-par features and support.
So, I suggest you try to talk me out of taking my business elsewhere.
1) have AT LEAST some on-call support members for afterhours.
2) secure email certificates. that is normal everywhere else.
3) webmail (yes, as in like i can give out email addresses to people and tell them that all they need to know is their email and password, and they should be able to look up their email… no need to do the hokey pokey and turn yourself around, and learn linux CGI C++ swaheli or any other languages in order to retrieve your email remotely).
4) decrease your “bug” resolution time to at least 4 hours. why do all of your “bugs” and “issues” take days to sort out?
My business is hosted elsewhere, I may have to take my personal business as well.
Yeah I keep trying to install WordPress - it keeps saying success and the confirmation e-mail never arrives, and the domain i’m installing it to stays empty. So they are making progress, slow, but it is progress. Can someone wake up the programmer and get his ass to work so this is fixed? When you’ve got over 1000 servers and something breaks for ALL of them, I’d be wanting to get that person in the office and paying overtime to get this fixed. Come on - it’s been almost 2 days now and I’m not even in a rush to work on my site….
I m Frustrated too. I jsut signed up with Dreamhost & I really hope that this prob will the 1st & the last i encounter. I’ve beeen having problems installing software on the server for the entire day. I Just want them to fix the problem & want my stuff to be up n running again.
I’ve had a dreamhost account for a couple of years and the oneclick installs have always worked really well.
Every request and problem I’ve had before have been resolved, so I’m sure this one will be also.
I agree that after this amount of time has gone by, it would be nice to have an update notice of some kind.
“Ridiculous”
I have never seen such a lack of responsability from DH since I`m with this host.
2 days of waiting is such long period for those clients who need it working to get things done.
Also let`s highlight a lack of information such as ” Updated: We are working on it…” and info that show us your effort in solving this problem.
I`m starting to regret in being with DH after all.
Seems that the email services are back again!
damn, now they are down again… wtf is happening???
I’m on twix, and this is the second day i cannot use my server! I keep on getting a 503 message upon POST request,
Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
I’ve submitted a ticket 24 hours ago and still nothing! I’m kind of sick of this “little issues”.
I hope you get it fixed ASAP.
After an hour of thinking I caused the poblem by deleting 2 directories and their content that I haven’t used in months I finaly checked here. Now I understand it’s not my fault! So checked my sites and lo and behold they dont come up!! Have been with DreamHost for 6 years and this is the longest any problem has lasted…sure hope the GEEKS at DH are working overtime this weekend and we’re not all just waiting for Monday!!!!
How about this y’all if you are trying to do one click install with wordpress, just go to wordpress download th package they have there unzip it and upload it to the folder you want, modify wp-config-sample.php or some such to wp-config.php and edit to inside to say what the correct db is, corrdct user, pwd, and host is, you might be able to leave the host at localhost , but otherwise, try like mysql.yourdomainname.com. If you want to do some other one-click install then i dont know. Good Luck and God Bless ![]()
Can we at least get a progress update, please?!?
Yes, please please sort this out ASAP or at least let us know what is going on!! It’s frustrating not having some kind of ETA for the solution.
Err, now my domains are not updating.. I set it to redirect somewhere, and it says it’s finished updating, but it didn’t even do anything to the domain. =?
I’m having the same issues some other users reported with webmail being inaccessible for recently added domains. It also looks like the new email accounts I created are listed but still ‘pending’. I cannot access them via an email client, and there is no way to verify whether it’s a setup problem on my part because webmail is not accessible.
Looking forward to a progress update from DH. ![]()
WTF is going on ???
I just received a mail saying “successfull install of WordPress on your website” and DIDN’T even just login on my web panel !! I did not ask for anything, didn’t click on anything, I wasn’t logged on the webpanel !!! I never clicked on WP autoinstallation !
WTF if this stupid auto-installation of WP just borked the one that is already installed ?? (it didn’t, but what is this thing going on when packages auto install themselves over my data ????)
Please Fix this ! If any of my data is overwritten by something I didn’t launched myself, I can’t believe my data is safe on dreamhost servers !!!
did a manual (not one click ) install last night of wordpress and that worked fine. Instructions at: http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Step_3:_Set_up_wp-config.php
worked perfectly and was able to customise.
got sent an email today saying that they couldn’t set up a wordpress in my location (/blog) because there was already something there (because I created it manually last night). I presume that either the system was fixed or DH are working through the requests manually. In any case, they didn’t write over my data so that was good.
Anyway, the silver lining is that I was forced to attempt a manual install and realised how dead simple it is to do.
I don’t make use of DreamHost’s webmail so I can’t speak to whether or not it’s functioning, and I haven’t tried a one-click install in several days (last time I did it worked as expected), but for over an hour earlier today none of my websites were accessible. I also couldn’t ping the server (Burns), or SSH to it so I assume it was hard down for most of that hour.
I agree with everyone that if DreamHost were to simply provide an update in this blog as to what is going on then we’d all rest a lot easier tonight.
Same as Olive above!
Same as Olive… received an email and now my website is not working the same way as before…
Same as Olive and Seb. Dammnit.
one click installs and webmail are working for me now ^_^, but my new domain reg is still lagging.
Every thing works fine for me now, exept the webmail,
i can add a new FTP and mail account…
And also i got a response from Support center after 24h !!!! never happened for me before!
i hope this will be the last one for this year…
DNS and one-click installs WFM now: Wordpress sucessfully installed on new subdomain.
oerg … I have a client presentation in 8 hours (it’s 2am in South Africa) been waiting up hoping DH will be sorted.
off to purchase some more hosting with another service provider to make today’s business happen
please please please get your systems sorted - I’ve been a DH client for less than 2 weeks and really want to hang around
Ditto on the unrequested install. My “blog” folder was empty and long decommissioned. Oh well, guess I have a new blog now!
To anyone saying, “Wow! you guys are right on it! I only just realized something’s wrong!”
Things should not go wrong. At all. You’re paying for hosting, and the rates you’re paying, and features you’re getting, are attainable elsewhere.
Migrating’s not hard. Ditch Dreamhost for a while and let them catch up with themselves. Maybe then they’ll be worth returning to.
Mark is just a dirtbag, spamming his site that has a steelpixel referral link on it… which isn’t a company that should be at the top of your list if you are thinking of leaving DH.
Mark, does steelpixel allow DH’ers to come there and be spamming idiots, or is only okay when their loser clients do it?
If you don’t have a DH-hosted site that you can link to, you really don’t have a reason to be here — or at least not a reason to link to a site. Go fish for referrals somewhere else, retard.
1. I actually do still have a DH account, which I’ve held onto until I was satisfied I had moved everything over, so I guess I am entitled to comment here, if a public blog actually requires I be vetted on such grounds to contribute to dialog.
2. There are no links in my comment and thus no spam; I provided a link to my own site, in the Website field, for accountability, which you seemed incapable of doing yourself.
3. I’m touting Steelpixel on my site because I’m pleased with weeks of continuous uptime, and they deserve the credit. The referral on the link to their site was my own doing, just for tracking. Unlike DH, they don’t offer referral credits; they’re selling solid service as opposed to hype.
Get a life. The majority of people commenting ahead of me are wholly displeased. Customers who have gone elsewhere as a result have input into the conversation as well.
