Rhod being moved to new hardware (Resolved!)
Rhod ran into some troubles and had to be moved onto bigger, better hardware. We’re working on this issue as quickly as we can, and will post an update as soon as we’re finished.
- UPDATE Thu Oct 26 07:00:56 PDT 2006 -
Rhod is back up with new hardware!

i sure hope this resolves all the intermittent outages i’ve been seeing mostly every time i attempt to check in a bunch of code i’ve just tweaked into subversion! ha ha… thanks folks.

I concur with d-low, only I’m not tweaking! I hope this helps to speed up my sites, too.

So you are the one crashing the dreamhost servers! Your subversion update must have been what took down dreamhost’s uber firewall
j/k
Oddly I found out about this because trying to go to a site that’s hosted on that machine (thank you, reverse dns) but it was really intermittent and though it was something with the new version of firefox, so I tried resetting some of the preferences, disabling extensions, and then realize there was an actual issue *sigh*
FWIW I’m a dreamhost customer, that’s how I was able to figure out to check this page when I saw it was a dreamhost server
Figures I just need one little javascript from one page I’ve never been to before and it’s hosted on the one server that had a hardware failure. Just my luck.
If curious the site is for “del.icio.us director”, which loads an interface for delicious into your web browser to allow organizing stuff easier. http://johnvey.com/features/deliciousdirector/ (I am not affiliated with them in any way)

Ah! The Colossus of Rhod! To you, O Sun, the people of Dorian Rhod set up this bronze statue reaching to Olympus when they had pacified the waves of war and crowned their city with the spoils taken from the enemy. Not only over the seas but also on land did they kindle the lovely torch of freedom.

It’s as weird as hell, but it sure beats the hell out of the whining.

you guys sure its back up?
October 26th, 2006 at 9:20 pm
no doubt…. it’s not *really* back up. or rather, it came up, poked above water, and went back down…

Not up by a long way. My pages load 10% in ten minutes or something like that, and MySQL is down much of the time. If it’s really “moved onto bigger, better hardware”, somebody is using a lot of resources here!
October 27th, 2006 at 3:15 am
Well, as far as DH may be concerned, the problems may be resolved, but as far as I see things, you guys still have a lot of work to do. I’m trying to ftp to rhod and it falls over with a timeout just trying to do cd or an ls after signing-in.
If this is what the level of service is like after you’ve “moved onto bigger, better hardware” then I hate to think what it was like before the upgrade

Rhod != coke, right…?
Coke went down a few hours ago, and though it’s back up now, my sites aren’t working like they should (particularly my staging site, which I set up just today).

I live on Rhod as well, and all is certainly not right with the world. Between timeouts and SQL issues, it’s a bumpy ride. Here’s hoping they fix it in the next few hours!

Still cannot access any of my websites…

This is boring guys, I have got crying customers here trying to spoil my weekend. And your information stating this thing is fixed doesn’t help me either…
What’s going on here.

My sites don“t work neither but I am not sure which server they are in.
October 27th, 2006 at 3:09 pm
Can’t access my websites either.

whats the point of a status page that takes forever to get updated?
October 27th, 2006 at 4:31 pm
I think it’s a bit strange to have an updated site that says “it’s back up” when many of the users report that it’s not working properly. Maybe we should beg them not to say it’s “Up” until they’ve checked that it’s really up with pulling a couple sites to be sure.

AERO has been very unstable today. Most of the day I’ve been getting completely no response from it, couldn’t even connect to the ftp. They said they made some config changes and that it was now working but its still doing the same thing. Which is nothing. My Site is down.
October 27th, 2006 at 5:50 pm
Aero has been down all evening, and was down for a good part of midday. Unstable is an understatement.
October 27th, 2006 at 6:32 pm
Ironic that, after many complaints about aviation, I get moved to aero, “a more stable server” earlier this week. I give. The saying “you get what you pay for” is true…

I guess I’m really lucky and just like to tempt the gods - I check this site all the time and even though I’ve been hit with issues -jeez it’s never been for long -ever
Probably a Microsoft 7 problem
