Selma denial of service attack
I apologize for not posting this earlier. It looks like selma was under a large denial of service attack. It was receiving about 100mbit of traffic from a large number of hosts. The major offendors have been blocked at our firewall and we are working on identification of the target, as well as restoring service for the handful of websites which are still offline.

Selma is one of the thousand or so servers where all your info is stored… she is also a dirty hag in the Simpsons

Selma is one of the Dreamhost servers - it’s named after a Simpson’s character (Marge’s sister), as a lot of the servers are.

i think its REALLY cool how dreamhost gives the servers a name, it feels all comfy…(no im not gay) better than calling them stuff like “box145″ etc

Hm, I can’t find on the panel how to tell what server my domains are on. Is there an easy way to tell?

Which server you ask. If you are using Windows XP click Start > Run > Type CMD
Then at the command prompt type tracert danadomain.com
For me I end up with:
13 152 ms 152 ms 155 ms basic-jolly.tootsie.dreamhost.com [208.97.134.26]
Where tootsie is the equivalent selma if that makes sense.

Thanks, mctt. Figured it out. I’m not on Selma - didn’t think I was, but two of my sites were down. They are not on the same server. Weird, but they are both back now.

Yes, my sites are down too… perhaps there is a knock on affect?
