Hi, I’m wondering if “salt” is the same as “saltine”… and more importantly if http://www.urbandrinks.com will be back up soon since it’s been down now for over 37 hours.

You guys rock. My pop server is down, i cannot receive my inbox. And it costs much more a day then your suckin’ 100 bucks a year!

I thought I was alone today, nobody’s responded to my help request, the message boards have been quiet and this page has nothing. 404 errors for all my sites since this morning.

I guess it’s reassuring knowing that others are having trouble with saltine. However, what is strange to me is that it’s not saltine per se, but the IP address that my domain name points to. I can ssh into saltine just fine if I specify saltine.dreamhost.com as the host. I just can’t ping urbandrinks.com. My site has been down for over 41 hours now. I must assume that the tech support team is swamped with ticket requests but I also have to assume that the hardware DH uses sucks or they’ve set allowable bandwidth expectations too high (I mean seriously, I have 2 TB of allowed bandwidth a month? Yeah right. I highly doubt these servers and networks can handle that, especially for $8 a month. Setting reasonable limits would probably be a better idea. However, I probably don’t know what I’m talking about..

The webpanel is extremely slow … anyone else having this problem?

This isn’t the easiest way to find out (I remember getting an email saying that I was hosted on XXXXX, that’s the easist)
Login to the panel and then go to this link:
https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=users.users&
At this point you’ll see that it will show all your users and what machines they are on. This will be your server. I don’t see any way to change the server the user is on.
You could then (depending on the rights you’ve given) log in directly to the command line of the server using SSH if you really want to. But that’s another question and another long response.
I should have just pointed you at the wiki…

Scott, are you on saltine as well?
November 3rd, 2006 at 4:32 am
Scott, is your site meant to just be an empty directy?
November 3rd, 2006 at 7:13 am
Wow… The customer base is revolting….
November 3rd, 2006 at 7:23 am
You said it.
November 3rd, 2006 at 7:32 am
57 hours and counting…

I’m on Saltine too and my sites are down. Reported at requested “Contact Support” link. I hope you all are doing the same.

Now I understand! All the sodium is raising they’re blood pressure!
November 3rd, 2006 at 1:23 pm
Wow, almost 28 hours and no response at all. I’m finally giving up. Sorry Dreamhost, you really need to take your issues more seriously or I would expect more people will follow and leave. 2 1/2 years of happy service ruined by 6 months of subpar performance.
November 3rd, 2006 at 2:09 pm
Yeah I’m jumping ship too. 63 hours is a bit too much. I’d give a second chance if this wasn’t the 4th time the server has been down in the last month.
November 3rd, 2006 at 2:35 pm
Dead as a doornail on all my domains for about and hour…no word here about more outages? They’ve been “verified” already when I checked the systemwide status. Um, update please.
November 4th, 2006 at 12:17 am
I’m on glass and I haven’t been able to FTP all day. No response from the Customer Service.
Y’know, they host about 1280934927542 domains (they are growing too fast, probably), so for this many complaints, that is probably a good sign. Remember that no one whose shit is working is coming here to post about how awesome their shit is working.
But I do behavior-based corporate training for companies, and I’d never get hired if my learners made the mistakes that DH makes in customer service. Your dissatisfied customers define your business, as you guys see here. I think their marketing is pretty good viral stuff (getting 324987293 bloggers to pimp the special deals they get), but they really need to catch up on the service end.
They can call me!

I know this isn’t the offical support channel, but maybe someone will take notice. I’ve been unable to get to the support section of the web panel and I can not access webmail as from yesturday 9am GMT.
Just a heads up.
November 4th, 2006 at 7:23 am
Those of us whose sites are working are afriad of mentioning it and having our sites go away.
November 4th, 2006 at 9:29 am
My shit is working awesome, and has been for ages.
November 4th, 2006 at 8:25 pm
But Nick, what about your site? (Glad to hear your proctologist has you “handled”).
