Soy Hard Drive Error - Updated
Soy’s hard drive just failed. We are in the process of moving everyone to new hardware. This should take no longer than an hour. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Updated: Soy is back online. All services are up and kicking.

Is this why I can’t log in?

How are server names organized? Also — how do I correlate that name to the server that hosts my domain?

Seems like server “rockstar” was down for an hour and half today. From 7:06AM PST to 8:36AM.

I think that list is a little outdated. I’m pretty sure Jeff or someone else from DH said the number is now around a thousand… plus a new one every few days.

Mine is not in the list… Hmm… The mystery thickens…

I appreciate the update, but when will we read about the (DH Support confirmed) problems with SpamAssassin. Specifically, it’s re-tagging SPAM as “0″ and letting it past filters. That’s a system wide problem that’s not being publicly addressed.

Dreamhost support was on the grassy knoll….

Spam. Yes. I keep getting it out of nowhere, and I don’t openly hand out my email. I keep getting them from debora and then some name next to it saying “it’s me, -name-” There’s no way to block those at all at the moment and it’s really irritating.
Also, my server keeps deciding it’s a good time to sleep whenever I work on something important. Why? I’ve had alot of tollerance for these outtages, but common. There’s been way too many lately.

“hard drive”? As in one? A single drive? … Don’t you guys use hot-swappable RAID? … At least a couple disks per server? So if one fails you can swap it with a new one and the server keeps going? With no data loss? … ?

The local drive just holds the OS. All user files are kept on the NAS (Network attached storage) cluster which is RAID. This allows a “machine” to be replaced in a very short period of time even if the entire machine were to fail.
Because a few machines are kept in reserve, the entire machine can be replaced quickly and the long process of repairing the original machine can be done.
