We are currently experiencing networking issues.

Posted (December 14th, 2006 at 12:45 pm PST) by danwy

Some of you may have been noticing some problems with your mail and MySQL services (and possibly some others). We’re not 100% sure what is causing these network problems, or what is being affected, but our entire admin team is currently investigating the issue. Stay tuned, we’ll be updating this post once we have any new information.

I can’t access either of my application servers, either.

right. I know this because the second mail stops working the lusers tell me that it doesn’t. Thanks for confirming there are issues.

I’m having problems on the price server.

You are the shittiest web host I have ever had,

Your network goes down more than my girlfriend, and I actually have to pay you for it.

Both my movabletype server and weblog does not work. Problem started 10 minutes ago.

selma is dead :(

At least people are constructive with their comments.

ba dum ching

My entire web site is down. How long will it take to have it up and running? Can I expect more of this today?

Can’t access any email or websites hosted by Dreamhost.

Its so nice of you to give us a place to formally, publicly tell you to fuck off, even if nobody but other pissed off customers see it.

If you would use new equipment, and not hire crackheads like that smartass josh bastard who sends out the stupidass newsletter, maybe your network wouldnt be so shitty.

I’m hosted on 208.113.128.216 and I cannot access anything either, so thanks for the prompt post acknowledging the problem.

My website is down.. FIX IT.

We’re on avalon. Jabber, Mail, and our website are down.

Redondo is down.

Just noticed that the time stamps on this blog are off by one hour. Yay DreamHost.

my whole site is unreachable. started around 1:40cst

errr…please fix this guys. I haven’t had any problems in a little while but this is all my websites… =\

centinela seems to be down for the first significant time for about 4 months, hope you figure things out quickly…

No my ssh session also crapped the bed shortly after the my web server(whittier) did.

My MySQL is offline. Which is terrible. Very inconvenient.

alondra is dead too. First time in a while it’s been down as hard as this. People complain too much — I figure if I needed five nines of uptime I’d pay a lot more than three nines a month.

Just great, the very moment my client is to look at his new site for the first time. Damn, this does not look good.

whole sites down as of 1:40 cst

I have no access to zagnut.dreamhost.com

My websites are down, can’t FTP or SSH either

Things are working again (my mailserver was down). No sites of mine were affected.

Washington is down too. First time experiencing any significant down time. The site was running rather slow this past week so hopefully whatever is happening will fix the slow loading times.

cupcake is down too????

My web server is down and I can’t ssh in. I’d check the DB too if I could. Jabber and Mail seem ok

I for one enjoy the newsletter and now thats the only reason I am with dreamhost… :p

Looks like just web services are down - I can still access my MySQL databases via offline tools (MySQL Query Browser application).

As for those of you bitching about the downtime - get over it. Things happen from time to time. Nothing is exempt from failure. If you don’t like it, design your own server hardware, server software, and run your own network. No one is stopping you.

Thanks for the update. Please resolve ASAP yada yada.

I’ve noticed my sites have been much more stable lately — until now, the very moment I chose to do some non-critical, almost pedantic tweaking of my blog template that I could do at any other time and no one other than myself will ever care about.

Damn you, Dreamhost, damn you.

Formosa down as well, no SSH access.

We are on cheezit. Entire site is down! A little too common of a problem with this server!

Highland’s down also, as of about 5 minutes ago.

Dear DreamHost,

Jalapa is down, deep down.

As much as I love your services and their nice price, I must say I’m disappointed. For months I had no problems with server issues, actually for almost a year, and now it happens on a weekly basis.

Things have been going on and off for the past couple of months. Down time, down time, down time… Get your act together, raise your prices a tad if need be. Offering low prices and bad service won’t make your customers stay, on the contrary.

You need to keep up with your customers and the services you offer. Honestly, I’m starting to consider other hosting companies. It’s too bad really.

Cheers.

jurupa.dreamhost.com is down too

looks like some very global problem…let’s hope they’ll fix it fast!

How much would I have to pay to get my site on the host of “dreamhoststatus.com” Clearly whatever server it is on, is the only one that’s up all the time.

arrow.dreamhost.com is down.

NOTHING I have related to Dreamhost (mail, hosting, databases, etc.) works right now.

Take a deep breath, folks. Things like this happen. Happening a bit too much, but, tech crap happens. A national newspapers website was down for 3 days. Company stuff goes down. Just chill. I hate it too, but, shit happens.

PS: not to start a flame war, but, if you do not like the service, find another host. Isn’t capitalism great?

my site on 208.97.175.xx on Sunkist is unavailable too, site’s been very slow recently too.. having complaints from users about slow download speed in the recent week. Last week was still very good.

My stuff is back up again.

Also wanted to ask the people who feel free to post profanity on this forum to please stop. It’s ridiculous for the rest of us to have to sort through your R-rated posts when we’re trying to find information about the outage.

We’re all frustrated, but c’mon, do you have to drop f-bombs?

Heh, I wonder if network problems are related because my website was featured on both Digg and Slashdot at the same time. Almost 500k hits in the past week can’t be good for the servers.

No access to edendale.dreamhost.com.

Dreamhost please help! The dogs are chasing me!

Tab and Punch are fine, just lacking mail :(

December 14th, 2006 at 1:01 pmtrying to work Says:

cuppcake is down

All sites on selma are down.

wilmington is still down as of 13:59 (and a few minutes earlier) CST

I still heart dreamhost. Nice to see a host that confirms problems immediately.

bellflower.dreamhost.com is down too
and can’t ping my site

virgil is up and alive again

archilles.dreamhost.com down as well. This seems to be a major crash, no email or sql.

Well, as everyone else stated (In less polite terms), your network goes down unacceptably often, we are considering switching hosts, you better get your act together if you expect to maintian business level clients, we need our site up.

working now ;) thanks

I realize there’s an issue - I’m having intermittent difficulty reaching my IMAP servers.

That said, hater-posters please leave, and find another place to spray your vitriol. Your cowardly, anonymous comments are pointless, not to mention devoid of useful information.

If this upsets you so much, find another hosting company you like better - but be quiet about it, please.

alondra’s back up and snappy.

bellflower.dreamhost.com is up now!

Murphy woke up early this morning. I have important things to email (hey, they’re important to me - piss off!) and a ton of work that I have to do that relies on my SQL and website. FIX IT!!!

Century is coming and going between down and up. Both HTTP and SSH are intermittently working and not.

Mail back up, sites weren’t affected.

My site is back up, unnecessary blog template modification here we come!

Yes, downtime is annoying - but unlike a lot of hosts who will deny they’re having trouble or try and blame it on your ISP or something - DreamHost admits when they’re having trouble. One can always hope for more reliability - but honesty is valuable in and of itself.

Web mail app still not reachable, 4:51 p.m. est !

I had 1 hourish of downtime. Shit happens and I’m still getting more than what I pay for.

I lost connection to mail but my websites remained up, panel too. I was sshed in the entire time too. I must admit these problems (especially the last big one) are quite discouraging, but from the webhosts I’ve used dreamhost gives you the most for the best prices. I’d even pay more, espically if they had better uptimes. Get some more routers, expand horizontally a bit. I’m ecstatic about multiple data centers. It will be nice to have more then a single point for failure.

A honest hosting company and one that communicates regularly will keep me here. Some of the messages on here are funny. I’m amazed that paying customers would write such rubbish.

Dreamhost team:
Thanks for working so diligently on this. We greatly appreciate not keeping us all in the dark.

http://www.erotofun.com was down for 20 minutes - 300 online guests and 38 members couldn’t use it ,now it’s back…

^^
wow, that’s not trying to advertise your site or anything :P

Crenshaw is back up.

Site works but unable to access FTP server

To those who want to do nothing but bitch…

DreamHost is at least honest with us when something is wrong. I’ve been with many web hosting companies, and DreamHost is the first to ever do so. Be thankful they’re honest with us.

Josh’s newsletters certainly may not be your cup of tea, and that’s alright. Simply unsubscribe! Personally, I enjoy reading his newsletters, though they may leave me a little confused at times, and I’m glad to see people running a company that know how to enjoy their jobs. Trust me, the company I work for ONLY cares about how much money goes into THEIR pockets, and certainly not the employees.

Oh, and at least grow some balls and say who you really are if you ARE just going to bitch about stuff. I suppose you guys are so fucking perfect that you have room to bitch about everyone else? I know you aren’t. It’s just your way of feeling better about yourselves. :)

Chris

You tell em chris.

Been hosting with you guys for years. Stuff goes down. C’est la vie. Thanks for keeping us updated and for working dilligently on it.

Don’t let the self-absorbed, overinflated-sense-of-entitlement idiots grate on you too much.

For all of the complainers, feel free to move to 1&1. Those pricks will give you exactly what you deserve.

Sh!t happens. Love the DH.

If it helps, I’m experiencing the usual problem: emails don’t send. I haven’t stopped receiving mail, but the mail I send gets stuck somewhere.

FIRE THE LASER

Mywebsites Down :( Please Fixed..

Hey all you people who are pissed off - you are paying for DISCOUNT hosting. A lot of you probably used the 777 deal. Dreamhost does surprinsgly well for being so cheap. If you need to be up 24×7 then go pay for a VPS. You get what you pay for, and with dreamhost you get a little more.

Crackheads.

Have you ever thought about moving DreamHost Status completely off the DreamHost network so that we can actually keep track of status updates?

It is frustrating when the network has trouble (today was esp bad for me as I had a VIP on the site) but in general, Dreamhost really is a dream compared to other low cost hosting companies. I have had only had 2 outages (this is 3) in a year and none were very long. They respond promptly to questions and they are helpful. They do their billing right. They have cool, easy to install software tools. They don’t ignore you. They DO NOT suck. If you think Dreamhost is bad, you are either used to dedicted servers or you haven’t tried some of the clown hosts out there. Cancel your account and move it to VizaWeb - and be prepared to come crawling back with gratitude.

That said, DreamHost -Stop it! :)

d

its cool… we appreciate that you are bustin ass on it… as has been said… shit happens

pico’s down. Both http://www.brooklynfreespace.org/ (Apache) & http://www.extrapepperoni.com/ (WordPress) complain ‘error id: “bad_httpd_conf”‘, and my ssh private key doesn’t get me into pico either.

New complain form (Please circle your choices):

I’m completely (outraged / annoyed / understanding) about the (recent / terrible / world-ending) downtime.

Please (do your best / sacrifice your firstborne) to get your systems operating again.

I plan to phone my (mom / gf / bf / lawyer) immediately!

Fred - you missed one important choice :)

Pay me (£100 / £1000 / £1000) compensation NOW!

What really gets me about this is like any network DH will have issues. It comes with the territory and for the £/Gb im really surprised the network holds up as well as it does.
Those of you who have issues raise a SUPPORT ticket. But only raise ONE for each issue you have. Flooding the support desk with loads of emails about their server not being able to show the pics of uncle fred dropping his trousers is going to take staff time away from the actual problem to try and sift through all the crud.

Im a relativly new customer and yes I find that DH lags slightly more than my 99.9% host which is why I keep the mega important stuff like work on a guaranteed SLA backed host.
But DH is awsome for archiving nearly every bit of stuff I have and the odd bit of downtime really doesnt concern me.

I also wonder those who are bitching the most are most likely the ones who used a promo code to get a whole $97 off the price for a year. Work it out - if you could provide the same space / bandwidth for the price of a cheeseburger a month then go ahead and do it.

Just my 0.02

Dave

Dave and Chris,

Well said. :)

Thanks for the updates guys.

Does anyone know of any free monitoring services that can independantly check deliverability of email or availability of sites? I would like to be able to tell my hosts when they are off air before they tell me. Proactivity does wonders for the customers and makes them more tolerant of outages.

cannot get to the webpanel at all. just times out. that’s a first. trying to pay you guys and can’t. o.0

oh, and on the downtime thing, check pingdom.com.

Well, fellas, it’s been good.

We came in a misfit bunch of strangers, all sharing the same trouble. We laughed, we cried, and in the end, maybe even learned a little something about ourselves.

You’re all aces in my book.

Thanks you dreamhost for the great work done. Dreamhost Rocks!
