Go will not go!

My apologies, residents of go, but there is a kernel panic on the server that has happened twice already. I’m moving everyone over to new hardware, and this should take no longer than an hour or two. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience.

Update: Go is up and running and all services seem to be running optimally. Please contact support if you have any problems with the go server.

Many times I have asked for this and I ask again.

Remember that you host websites for people all around the world. Each time there is an announcement on planned downtime we have to make time calculations so we can know when it will be our time.

Please consider using a service like http://timeanddate.com/ so you will publish a link and everyone will see the right time in their own corner of the world.

Hanan - this incident was not planned, but I do agree that the announcements are a little “wild”.

It’s also reasonably easy to calculate your local time when you know that the data center is currently in Los Angeles California and times reported are PST or PDT.

Guys - before reporting “Everything’s down!” do us a favor and use tracert (win)/traceroute (mac OS) and see if the problem is a network communication problem. DH can’t fix QWest.

Also, if you posted the issue at http://discussion.dreamhost.com, you could get 5-10 other customers that can help you identify the issue so a solution can be provided to DH Support.

Not a complaint, just an odd observation…

If it was just moved to new hardware, why is it showing around 26.5 days of uptime?

Compulov — That’s because it was a hotswap of hardware , no reboot neccessary . That means that the new hardware had been up and waiting in standby for 26 days before a server had to be failed over to it.

Apparently, my sites are all on the only server / node / cluster / datacenter / backbone to not go down. I am very, very lucky, considering how many servers — OTHER than the one mentioned in any of these posts — go down at the same time.

Or maybe it’s because I’m in America, unlike the complainers, whose foreign ISPs apparently connect to the Internet by tin cans and string. Which wouldn’t be so bad, if the goats and chickens they keep in the house didn’t occasionally eat that string, or knock over the Intel 80086 PC with 16kb of memory running a pirated copy of Windows NT 3 that acts as proxy server for their entire sorry country.

PS to Roger: There’s nothing worse that being one-upped. “Internet for Dümmies” is probably the funniest thing I’ve read here in months. And you can be sure that when the Director’s Cut is released, some kid in Malaysia will make a crappy rip of it encoded for Region 5, and sell it on eBay for $9.99.

The sad truth, of course, is that only stupid Americans will buy it. It’s so hard to be a “racist” when the facts keep messing up your rants!
