Mail authentication outage
Posted (February 12th, 2007 at 6:01 pm PST) by mikehWe just experienced an authentication outage for all of our mail clusters. This has been resolved.
A network hiccup caused our load balancers to reset all connections to the backend authentication databases, which in turn caused all mail servers to need a reset to get their connections back.

my webmail is working, but my pop still errors out.
Webmail up but pop still out here too.
Oddly no problems for us.
I’m assuming this doesn’t effect dedicated hosts?
Ok, POP and webmail work ok but no dice on SMTP. *Sigh*

POP is still down here as well.
POP still down, and weirdly can’t even access web hosting from my mac laptop. can access webmail on pc at desk at work.
IMAP is not working for me. The TCP connection opens but the server doesn’t respond to anything after that.
Everything is good for me.
This is weird. All my email accounts within my domain are working EXCEPT one person who is still getting SMTP relay errors.
My various clients are not working mostly either. It works briefly then not at all. POP and IMAP, are both timing out… I must say that email has been flakey for the past several days…
Since I am a new customer that recently switched from a host that had constant problems, I am not impressed and am very concerned…
Pop (mail.stefanofontanelli.com) is down -> is timing out
Webmail is down -> is timing out
Why?
Now ALL my domain is OK!
Uhmm… authentication is still failing for me. I’m using an IMAP client - and still no go.
Has everyone reported their problems to support? I use IMAP on my treo and except for when my treo goes insane I haven’t had any noticable issues since last night.
My mail is still completely down! No pop or webmail. 
Mail still seems flaky. I just had period where the pop/imap server would not respond. Came back as I type this.
No outage listed on this site but I have not been able to check my email for over 6 hours. this happened yesterday also. there is report listed in my panel that says you are looking into it but this is a really long time. and 2 days in a row. what is going on??
Fixed? WRONG. Mail authentication continues to be on-and-off, a hit and miss, UNRESOLVED ISSUE. Worse, the authentication issues mean I can’t even log into the Control Panel, which means I can’t even send a note to Technical Support to try and get the issue resolved!
There is nothing more irritating to a customer than to have a business try and play the whitewash p.r. game and declare a problem fixed when it’s not.
PLEASE GET THIS FIXED>

Although I was a little disappointed when I had timeout errors on my mail login, Dreamhost is the best at disclosing everything. Other hosting companies that I’ve worked with don’t say when something goes down and since I can’t devote all my time to monitoring my site, I’m clueless until a customer arrives and starts complaining that the site has failed parts. Thank you Dreamhost!
