Snoopy mysql server issues

Posted (February 26th, 2007 at 10:40 am PST) by Justin

The snoopy mysql server is having issues at this time, responding slowly over the network. It is being worked on now and should be working normally again shortly. You can check which mysql server you are on in the control panel under Status -> Mysql Usage. Our apologies for the issues.

- UPDATE: 12:11 PM PST -

The server seems to have some hardware issues, the data is being moved to a new faster mysql server right now. As soon as the data copy and configurations are complete, the databases will be working again. Again, sorry for the downtime.

- UPDATE: 2:32 PM PST -

Snoopy’s databases have all been successfully moved to the new server, einstein. The final moves were completed around 2PM.

Have a look at DROOPER it also seems to be acting up

There’s some kind of time warp going on.

The times listed on justin’s notice from Dreamhost is in the future!

Apparently Dreamhost’s clock is an hour off, like it’s on MST rather than PST. Could this be part of the current problems? Or has the clock for postings at dreamhoststatus.com always been an hour in the future?

For the record, the actual time this message is being sent is 9:52 am PST.

I’m a happy customer.
I’m actually giggling at these server names that were previously unknown to me.

I will stay with a host that uses “Schweppes” and “Sizzle” as server names.
I’ve had downtime before, on my own hosting, like when my cats chewed through the power cable for the modem… so at least someone else is fixing my problems this time instead of me trying to restrain myself from feline murder.

Schweppes has been having issues as well. :(

I am happy. No downtime aside the power outage, and besides, I’m quite satisfied with what I pay for.

ERM add BARKLEY to the list of servers… it won’t even upload a 24MB file to the database right now or all morning since I have been trying for about 6 hours. I hope you find the problem and fix it soon. I am a new customer and I am still loving the service, but just wanted to make you aware.

I’m pretty happy! My uptime tracker was listing over 70 days uptime before this maintenance. My MySQL sites are running a little slow, but my main site hasn’t had any problems yet.

And as an addition, even with all this, the uptime tracker still says I have 99.8% uptime. I consider that pretty darn good, myself.

DingDong is also having mysql issues. Very annoying

Greets

what sorry service

dreamhost it’s good !!! the prove for this, is that we’re all here posting our feeling in their site !
our site are off…
but dreamhost site, http://www.dreamhost.com, that them use to sell their “host plans” are never down ! rsrsrsrsrsrs

My site go on well.

Intermittent MySQL issues with “mimsey” server as well.
=

How am I supposed to use the web panel to notify you that my site is down if the web panel is down??!? My comment is unrelated to this post, but I don’t see a post up yet about whatever outage I’m experiencing.

Mento is having these problems as well. Waiting for this to come back up.

even your main site is down. Something bigger is going on

Dynomutt just went down…

’sizzle’ seems to be having troubles too.

(good luck with your firefighting)

Tib also sad… ;(

juniormint is down too.

You guys are KILLING ME!

It’s always something. Very tiresome.

I’m not having any issues accessing the webpanel. But the MySQL seems to be more widespread.

hushpad:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket ‘/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock’ (2)

…and lionel.

I think it’s safe to say that a lot of the mysql servers are having issues. :)

i just became a DH client 2 weeks ago but already seriously thinking about moving again…
my site has been slow due to errors which they don’t know or don’t want to share, since friday…

‘dino’ mysql server having response issues as well.

All in all I have not total seen any of my websites go down. They just respond slow for a few minutes then act fine for a few minutes — back and forth for a couple days now. The longest I noticed no response from one of my sql servers is about 30 minutes.

Though any of my pages that doesn’t make a request to the sql server loads up quick, like normal.

My sites are going up and down all over the show, I never knew I bought a yo-yo.

Add “Roary” to the ever-growing list, I suppose. =(

My web site (which uses MySQL) is working but it is incredibly slow.

pez has also been having major issues with MySQL errors and downtime - at the most inconvenient times!

BUCK is completely out as well, and has been since Sunday morning PST. :-(

New customer and also new phpbb2 site with urdu language version.
WebSite is going up and down last 2 or so days.
Phpbb2 Admin Panel was perfectly working few days ago. Now time to time require refresh.
Phpbb2 Auth Mangement use to work now completely down, even after refresh.
Some one mentioned that you have updated to PHP5. Could that be a cause.
Hope we all can get full service soon.
Good luck.

mcgruff and punch are up and down all day, as well as spacey mail..

Add toto to the list… ohh the humanity. ;-)

** I can just about hear the DH battlestation sirens from here **

mcgruff and punch are up and down all day, as well as spacey mail.. all down again at the moment.

Anyone have any experience with superb.net hosting? They offer 99.9% server uptime and 100% network uptime for only a little more than DH. I’m looking at switching.

I have problems with the db but I am using growltiger server…

Yeah, DROOPER server here too. But I got a ticket back that they are looking at it, so I think it’s already been added to the list along with SNOOPY.

Figaro is sucking anus at the moment too

Aslan is also very slow and/or unresponsive at times. Come on, this have to stop…

I do not see any happy customers post today. Where are all the guys that were happy with Dreamhost uptime?

@lefteris:I do not see any happy customers post today. Where are all the guys that were happy with Dreamhost uptime?

I’m not upset with them, if that’s what you’re asking. They’re having some issues and working to get it sorted out. These are humans, not superhumans. Give ‘em a chance, they’ll fix it.

Looks like Ladybird and Beethoven aren’t much happier, either. (Though Ladybird is happier now than it was 20 minutes ago when it was for all appearances lifeless.)

Yes, all my websites are down that use sql :-(
They all use the Snoopy server. But i still love dreamhost!!! Great response times, and great service. Cheers guys! :-)

——————————————————————————————-

Here ya go. You can’t count me as a “happy customer”. That, or course, does not mean that I am happy that things are borked at the moment, but they will get it fixed. I’ve been with DH since 1998, and no one likes *any* downtime, but the *total* percentage of downtime I have experience in that time is insignificant. A few problems now and then, but overall it’s good.

only one of my sites are down, and unfortunatly it is our most important. Did come back for about 20min this afternoon, but is gone again. First major downtime i have had in the two years here..

not too bad, but I will be a much happier person after it comes back.

Well.. lost the Cpanel, and Dreamhost’s home page now, looks like they are down as well…

My database is on Aslan and it is very very slow too!

Yeah, seriously. I’m not excited that I’ve been having issues, but for the most part they’ve been really contained even throughout this. I think they’ve been doing a good job. Personally, it’s the first remotely “major” problem I’ve ever had with them.

So I’m happy regardless. Good job and I’m glad something is being done about it.

zero is in this issues too

this is tiresome DH - why dont you have redundancy for everything in place?
I thought you did.

forint’s also having issues

Not Snoopy!! Curse you Red Baron!!

(Rumor has it that there are pictures of Peppermint Patty going down on BlueTube.)

Coke is down I think, so it Gatorade. Can’t access any of my sites (timing out). Other than this it’s all good though(!)

Marmaduke has been acting up all day as well. Off-and-on connectivity issues.

I’m kinda pleased to read some of your happy comments, they are reassuring to someone who has had a huge argument with the web-master of my site 2 weeks ago over hosting and I said (and did) switch over to the far more reliable DH. Needless to say with my site down due to these problems the egg sliding off my face right now isn’t a pleasant feeling but I hope in the long run I’ll be proved right, stuff as they say happens, timing it seems is everything. I hope it’s sorted soon, the egg is starting to smell a bit…

Dr Pepper looks to be having issues as well.

C’mon dreamhost, get yer shit together… a lot of problems lately :)

DreamHost is awesome, John. You made the right choice. I’ve been hosted with them for a number of years now. And hey, we’re getting a faster MySQL server today! How cool is that? Thanks, guys.

Fido is having problems as well. Be that as it may, this is the very first issue I’ve ever had with DH. I’m staying.

yay i can hardly wait! thanks for working so hard to fix the issue. it’s much better response than i have ever gotten from a host before.

I’ve seen some DNS problems resolving some of the mysql domains on a few of our sites, but the server itself seems to be working well. I’m not sure how to tell what server we’re on though, so I can’t offer up positive words.

As a whole, DNS resolution through DH has been very very slow, slower than normal. I’ve had intermittent issues with entire sites not resolving now and again too. Overall I’m pretty happy with DH, but who knows 2 years from now when my INSANELY cheap hosting expires if I’ll stick around I guess. I’m hoping I’ll be able to though, their service is great when it’s all working the way it should!

Bounty is also busted :(

Ohh my server name is lame… Roary

Keep up the good work, hope everything is running again soon so much for 99% uptime lol for this year.
My website was down again this morning for like 1 hour.

We have been with DH for a few years now and it seems that recently there have been more and more issues.

Is FTP down as well, it has been in and out all day and it is killing us and I have customers screaming over issues I have no control over.

Maybe it is time to move on as well, either to another host or a server locally at a hosting company…. I have to wonder why I pay for service that is out when I “need it” to be able to afford this service.

I’ve been with DreamHost for six years, having used several hosts before them.

For those of you who are waving goodbye ’cause you’re fed up with a SQL issue (or the power problems before), well, good night and good luck. You’ll soon learn the difference between a company that has the ocassional service burp and a lot of companies that don’t really have “service” in their vocab.

I remain a fan of our Happy DreamHost team. (Who better not be reading this ’cause they’re hard at work fixing SQL issues!)

;)

Joslyn might be having date problems as well.

My sites are going down more than your mom.

Tammany is having major issues as well. We’re essentially dead in the water… This was the last account we hadnt moved to Media Temple…. We may have to move this if the outage goes on much longer. You really need to notify account holders of these problems and not wait for us to come hear and read it. I could have shut off my PPC campaigns hours ago and minimized the loss.

Mines working again now. yay! (snoopy)

Thanks very much for the help!

can you move everything on benji to a newer faster mysql server too? cuz right now it sucks (or are my 10 page views a day too much to handle??)

Thanks DH! Sites are all back up again, and are actually quite fast.

Well its nice to hear everyone on Snoopy is fixed. What about the rest of us?

OK, I must be dumb, but I can’t figure out how to find my mysql host in the control panel?

Based on the number of servers that have been mentioned and at four hours per fix per server I’d estimate the complete restoration will be done in about 17 days, assuming nobody takes time out to sleep. (At least it would seem that my SQL/wiki site is still offline.)

That said I still plan to stick with DH and I’d bet they will respond to this crisis in fine fashion with some nice cushiony mirrors and so forth in the near future.

-rob

Aggervating yes, but consider how much you are paying and what you are getting. Comon, be a bit reasonable here :)

@Angry Wooter - is your dealitin site on dreamhost? what kind of plan do you have? why can’t my crappy webstore on here EVER run 1/1000th as fast your site :(

Great way to get my brand new web service started with a fizzle instead of a bang…

my wiki is still down. so hoping a reliable fix can be arranged.
As a general principle, given realistic use of dollars, I would prefer lower disk, bandwidth for less “power outages” - is that a California thing? or a DH overloaded-circuit-breakers kind of thing?

same here… wiki DB is still down. wtf?

My wiki’s still down. The DB is on goofy, I didn’t see that mentioned up there.

rintintin also has gone postal on me…
and to those of u bailing on dreamhost…ive been thru about 7 hosts in the last 2 years and between the price we pay and what we get u wont find a better host i dont think so i have no probs sticking this out but just for my twisted satisfaction ill list a few host and tell u the probs i had

ipowerweb: all was great except they cap the mysql querys so my site went down never less then once a day because the mysqls would never restart like they were supposed to

godaddy: lame amount of space and by their tos u cannot run any 3rd partyprograms..such as teamspeak veiwers or game server veiwers o and did i mention..u can back up yer database but u cannot put the backup into yer database…nor will they..yer expected to rebuild yer database or stick it u know where

drg servers:…i cant even begin to tell u what position they like u in

heretic hosting: ..those of u that know them..im sure know better

beyond those hosts good luck ipower and godaddy are probly the most known but from my standpoint..this issue is no big deal at all to me im sticking it out and smiling thru it :D
ps i didnt mean to use this to slam other hosts but well…they slammed me so..lol

wiki DB back up and running for me…

“no mail is lost” they say. yet i sent myself a test message yesterday afternoon, from a different commercial account (at verizon) to my account on a dh server, and nothing has shown up yet…it is more than 24 hours.

jolt is also having issues.

I have many Mediawiki sites. I had to upgrade to Mediawiki 1.9.2 today to be able to see the pages at all. I gather this is because of the new upgrade behind the scenes to PHP 5.2. Scary; I didn’t know this was going to be broken. Now I can see the pages but cannot edit them. If I try to edit one, I am allowed to enter edits but they are not stored. Instead of the new page, I see a web page with this:

Database error
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function “Article::updateRedirectOn”. MySQL returned error “1146: Table ‘taime.tawiki_redirect’ doesn’t exist (taime.techterms.net)”.

I didn’t try to run any shell update script, because I had already been running Mediwiki 1.8 or later, or thought so. This wiki runs on ‘growltiger’ server but the ones running on other servers have exactly the same problem; can’t save edits to the pages. Any suggestions?

Still having database issues with Movable Type. The program says that I have no blogs (i.e. can’t access any data about them). Seems to be a query access issue with MySQL. The error message that I get when I try to post something is:

“Build error: Error in query: Got error 28 from storage engine”

Mike B: I’m having exactly the same problem with my WordPress blog. I’ve contacted support with a system-wide ticket but it has been dismissed. I contacted them afterwards explaining the problem but haven’t received a response yet.

Error 28 means “No space on device”. Probably /tmp has been filled up and needs to be cleaned. I too have this problem and I just put my pages on maintenance, as I (obviously) don’t expect it to be fixed until PST morning (also because the support queue had like 326 open requests before mine).
Of course I have submitted a support ticket myself.

We are still expierencing problems with all our blogs not only the wordpress system but also B2evolution

Webmail still not working here - server Fresca.

Also the panel.dreamhost.com is offline

Don’t get me wrong, I really like DREAMhost, but with all the issues going on in the past couple of years, I’m really tempted to switch to a WORKINGhost.

count yourself lucky if your site has been up and down and up again. One of mine hasn’t seen the light of day since the outage. Not even a minute or two. If it was mine i wouldn’t be so stressed but when it belongs to a client and you’ve recommended the host and its not the first time that its been down for ages ( 48 hours is a long time) then it doesn not bode well for my reputation.

Lisa, I don’t think this bodes well for Dreamhost. They have just earned themselves 1 less customer!

Have fun!

@lisa - You shouldn’t promise your client more than DH promises you. They should get a full copy of the DH TOS and READ IT before they decide what to do. Tying your reputation to something that you don’t have any control over makes no sense.

This realy can’t be at a worst time I have referred a great client of mine for website and the big one “Email” since they signed up last week it’s been pretty crappy ride for them I estimate this move is going to be way over budget simply due to time and downtime issues.

I almost regret referring them here, after several days you would think the servers would at least be stable enough to access email.

I am having problems with my site. It doesn’t seem to want to host right now. Any suggestions. It seemed slower yesterday but it was still going. But this morning I’m having problems now.

Chalk me up as one of those “magical” DH users who never runs into major issues. Maybe I’m lucky, but I’ve been with DH since 2002, and I’ve only ever had my site go down (without advance warning) for… I dunno… the longest I remember was about an hour.

Yes, there have been some large outages before, but I’ll be damned if Dreamhost hasn’t handled them better than any other host I’ve used. I only use DH for personal sites — I realize that it’s not a good choice for a business that has to have a 24×7x365 uptime, but anyone who’s using a shared host for that is (to put it mildly) a fool.

I’ve also been quite impressed with the tech support. I’ve never had a ticket go un-answered for more than 48 hours. When I used the “OMG EXTREME EMERGENCY” setting to submit a ticket (my site was under a DDoS attack), I got a response within 10 minutes!!

Sounds like orphans ,might need to work out some preventive maintained scripts

1:31 PM EST, the day after. Sunkist appears to be down. Can’t access anything related to any of my sites.

I can barely access any of my websites! Even this website is dying … I don’t know what they did yesterday but nothing seems to be running consistently.

I can’t access to my sites in alameda. SQL fail.

Well my website http://fragbaka.com was loading very slow but it seems to be fast again. Thanks for the good hosting dreamhost.. please don’t disapoint me again. Please keep the speeds fast.

This sucks…

Ok well I have a service/help request in to DH but haven’t heard back from them. Getting desperate I’ll take a shot here: It seems my MySQL-based MediaWiki robfatland.net/seamonster may have been dead-ish last Friday even before the outage, but at any rate it’s real dead now. I can get to my main page robfatland.net just fine and when I log in to the host using ssh the wiki subdirectory is there and shows now signs of a problem. But I can’t get to the web page for love or money. Any ideas, suggestions? thanks
-rob

If you think its a database issue - you can initiate a database restore from the panel. You can roll it back a few days or a week or two.

When you browse to your wiki - are you seeing anything like a sorry page or errors?

“The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.”

You may be the victim of the php upgrade, but you may want to pose your questions to forums: http://discussion.dreamhost.com/

what the fuck.

oh it’s ok; there was an update to mediawiki that I missed so I went and did that: A one click plus some command line scripts from the mediawiki directory. Unfortunately the first script hangs at “Deleting old default messages…” but at least the wiki is back up and editable so I’ll take this offline and resolve with DH folks.

Again for the record I’m very happy with DH and would recommend the service to others, bumps and all.
