Riffraff mysql server having issues (resolved)
The riffraff mysql server stopped responding suddenly, a tech is on the way to the data center to check what happened to it. Should the hardware have problems, we will move the databases to new hardware. Check back for updates.
– UPDATE –
It is rebooted and back up and running fine. We will continue to monitor it for any further issues.

Nothing like the smell of fried trons in the morning!
March 14th, 2007 at 7:34 am
Good job….
March 14th, 2007 at 11:03 am
If it’s fixed then why can’t I log into my FTP site? It worked this morning.
March 14th, 2007 at 11:17 am
Why would a mySQL server have anything to do with your FTP not working?
March 14th, 2007 at 11:57 am
David,
You should place a ticket instead of posting in the status blog. They will respond to the and let you know if it was a connection problem with your end or the ftp server having a problem.
March 14th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
Frank: Isn’t that strange. Folks go into these status blogs and report problems having little or nothing to do with the issues in the blog, and wonder why they’re not getting help.
Strange.
Peace,
Gene

Sounds like Debian is a bit of a disaster. Servers shouldn’t need to be rebooted to function correctly.

March 14th, 2007 at 4:38 pm
stop the damn spamming, its people like you that jam mail servers, put dreamhosts mail servers on blacklists and get me embarrassed because people think im getting pr0n emails.
March 14th, 2007 at 5:20 pm
My mysql is down, been down for the past 2 1/2 hours and I haven’t gotten any word back from dreamhost.
Which basically means, my site is down.
Anybody else having this outage?
March 14th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
Adnan - Sure looks like it’s up now.
March 14th, 2007 at 5:27 pm
Its’ not why.
If you see a flag of country ‘unknown’ it means that its down.
Try accessing my blog or polls.

You have to admit that with that much advertising it’s hard for someone unfamiliar with it to tell.
Ping shows that mysql.linkspub.com is up, but that doesn’t mean anything about mysql. I assume you’ve tried to connect to the server using phpmyadmin? I am showing that phpmyadmin is responding - go to http://mysql.linkspub.com and you will be asked for a username and password to connect to the DB. My assumption is that, based on what your sites are doing, that attempts to login may fail - BUT you may learn something more to send to support. You may also try asking others if they are on the same mysql server and experiencing issues (you can find the server name of your sql server from the “account status” listing on the control panel.
You may also be able to get more support in the discussion forums at http://discussion.dreamhost.com There tends to be a lot of reasonably bright people that might be able to help diagnose.
Good luck!

Actually I don’t connect to my databases over plain http without filtering out the ip, but i don’t want to take the trouble right now.
I’m pretty sure they are down and already sent the error messages I got to support and am just waiting, waiting, waiting.
This is like the 3rd or 4th downtime for my site past month.
hmmmmmmmmm
March 14th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
This is wacky,
I can connect to my database from the mysql query browser but not from my site.
I’ve got 2 different databases, with 2 seperate users and both are giving me a database error. I haven’t made any changes either.
March 14th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
Mine were down too, sounds like about the same length of time as yours. Back up now. Must have been a whole cluster, because I have databases on four different servers and they were all down.
March 14th, 2007 at 6:32 pm
Yup, started working just now.
March 14th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
Good to hear! I feel for anyone who’s down. Down sucks.

Submit a support ticket ladies and gents. After all, its the best way to have your problem looked into. Also try the discussion forum. Might find an answer there.

Best hosts… DH is in there

You know, I love DreamHost, but my mySQL has been acting up the last two days. All my queries (though they are absolutely correct in every aspect) have been sending back errors and it’s really pissing me off. My website runs purely off of databases so this is a big problem.
March 15th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
As long as we don’t have a Magenta mysql server go down, we will be ok.
March 15th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
@Joe: It’s not “best hosts”, it’s “top hosts”. Top hosts being the hosts with the most registered domains, not rated by quality.
March 15th, 2007 at 5:27 pm
There are some real issues in the mySQL server… I can’t get anything to work.
March 15th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
Submit a ticket.
March 15th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
I did two days ago, and it hasn’t been replied to yet.
March 15th, 2007 at 10:08 pm
my sites don’t seem to have issues, guess i’m lucky (besides the outages a few weeks ago…)
i joined DH a week before the power outage, but besides that it’s been smooth sailing.
thx dreamhost!
March 16th, 2007 at 9:59 am
Problems again today.
March 16th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
Ezipo: What sort of problems? All I see on your site is an intro page without content.
Peace,
Gene

Nikolai - it looks like your site is up now. I haven’t seen so many pop ups since I last played Whack-a-mole. Hope you’re getting rich!!!
March 18th, 2007 at 11:26 am
For some reason all my scripts using this database are going extremely slow still.
March 18th, 2007 at 11:31 am
MySQL has been down for almost 24 hours on my site…
March 18th, 2007 at 3:52 pm
knight - It looks good now.
Looks like it’s recovered Andrew.
Either they’ve healed or DH has fixed it.
March 19th, 2007 at 9:56 am
Andrew: Your site is running slow as of now, taking 9.5 seconds, according to your WordPress info in the source.
You running a lot of plug-ins?
Peace,
Gene

March 20th, 2007 at 4:23 pm
Christ, you people don’t have anything better to do than complain about DH? Honestly, when you start complaining because nothing is down, you just need to step away from the computer.
March 20th, 2007 at 6:15 pm
Matt, don’t you have a appetite for just plain simple fun?
Peace,
Gene
March 20th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
