It has been found that this server is currently undergoing an attack. An admin is already working to resolve this. I am unable to offer an ETA for resolution at this time but please be sure to check back here for further updates.
Update (13:29): It looks like shocktart is in the clear now and is operating normally. We’re continuing to monitor it for any lingering issues. If you are on this server and your site is still inaccessible please contact support@dreamhost.com.

This has been happening WAY too often lately…
March 25th, 2007 at 11:26 am
My site’s affected as well, glad I came here to check and see what’s going on at least.
March 25th, 2007 at 11:42 am
I’m on sparkletts and I’m down too.
March 25th, 2007 at 11:46 am
My other sites are live but I just added a new domain in my account and for past 1 hour my site is still not live. Domain is still not accessible. Can it due to the attack? I am on smoothy server.
March 25th, 2007 at 11:50 am
I´m note that the server shocktart its very slow the las month. It´s because the atack or the high load of the server?
March 25th, 2007 at 11:51 am
Sparkletts is definitely fubar as well.
March 25th, 2007 at 11:55 am
Is this happening to ^ badwebsite.org? If it is, the chances are it’s Something Awful
March 25th, 2007 at 12:01 pm
FIXED!?
March 25th, 2007 at 12:39 pm
yup, fixed. for those on smoothie and nesbitt please refer to the previous status post:
http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/2007/03/23/nfs-inflated-loads/
for others, please send an email into support@dreamhost.com (or through the admin panel) so our support team can help you out (don’t post support requests here!)
as for sparkletts, it’s looking good now.
March 25th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
I’m not even on shocktart and my site is down. I can’t access the panel either.
March 25th, 2007 at 1:57 pm
This intermittent service is getting ridiculous. Every so often, at least twice per day, I access my site and it’s down. So how many users are seeing a downed site at other times when I’m not visiting?
March 25th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
Its back up for me now.

To Navjot Singh
“My other sites are live but I just added a new domain in my account and for past 1 hour my site is still not live. Domain is still not accessible. Can it due to the attack? I am on smoothy server.”
It’s probably down to DNS propagation as it can take up to 24 hours for the DNS servers to receive all the updates.
To the others that are complaining about intermittent service it’s not really fair to blame Dreamhost for a DOS attack on one of their boxes as it can and does happen to anyone. The good thing is they identified it and took steps to resolve the problem. At least they have the decency to admit there are problems unlike others who claim that there’s nothing wrong at all.
March 25th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
Its going to storm outside soon. Can you please fix this dreamhost? Oh wait… this isnt my personal weather support blog? So you’re saying it does no good to ask about unrelated things here and I should contact support? Well, that sounds like a great idea.
March 25th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
Nick: I suggest you use a free service, such as www.host-tracker.com to see just how often your site truly is down, and make certain it’s not just for a few minutes, which is really nothing to be concerned about unless it happens a lot.
You can run 5-minute checks if you want. I use 15-minute checks, because that ought to be sufficient to let me know about any serious outage.
Peace,
Gene

I’m on seltzer and my forums just got hacked! My account is being used to delete groups, users, and forums!
March 25th, 2007 at 6:33 pm
Nesbitt has been dead for 3 DAYS, Dreamhost doesn’t care.
March 25th, 2007 at 7:04 pm
Brian: And you know this — how?
Are you on that server (your site seems to work)?
Did you file a support ticket?
Peace,
Gene
March 25th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
Gene: Traffic stats for the last 3 days - http://www.reallybored.net/images/server-stats2.png
Traffic stats for the week prior is server-stats.png
Look at that and tell me that’s normal. My site receives 30% of it’s normal daily traffic. I monitor my sites very closely and know when I’m being screwed, which with Dreamhost is almost daily. I’m working as fast as I possibly can to move to away but need a week or so to do it (unlike some here, most of my sites will take a lot of work to move). Also, potentially thousands in lost revenue if they don’t do something about this now. Get it?
I’ve filed a support ticket. About the 5th in the past 2 weeks.
March 25th, 2007 at 11:04 pm
Brian: It appears you are encountering something that is not normal for this service. So what did they tell you in response to those five support tickets as to the cause of the failure to load or slow performance?
Peace,
Gene

Nothing easier that changing a host!

Nothing easier than changing a host!
March 26th, 2007 at 3:38 am
… other than double posting.
March 26th, 2007 at 4:20 am
And with that monthly bandwidth, using it up in 5 min. if you have a busy site
Peace,
Gene
March 26th, 2007 at 4:35 am
All my discussion lists are down. This is the first time I’m getting slightly pissed off…. boys and gals please fix this.
March 26th, 2007 at 4:40 am
If you’re going to lose thousands of dollars in revenue, you should really be with a hosting company like Media Temple.
March 26th, 2007 at 5:45 am
Gotcha seems to be down as well.
March 26th, 2007 at 10:13 am
Dreamhost needs a better way to informt he customer their tickets are being looked at. This linear method of ticket & reply is not good for ongoing issues where the customer wants to see what is going on. I recommend that dreamhost keep persistent issue tracker tickets available to customers so they can see that techs are indeed looking at the ticket and working it. This will save some time since techs won’t have to respond as much if it is obvious a ticket is being addressed.
March 26th, 2007 at 11:15 am
Actually, Me, I kind of dig the fact that the techs are dilligently working on matters to resolve any maintenance that might make for a faster transition - than say, spending all their time answering your tickets.
March 26th, 2007 at 11:16 am
And Drew? Seriously, dude. Go try MT, once. I dare ya.
March 26th, 2007 at 11:47 am
Daniel maybe some us host something other than your blog at DH. Maybe we want to know our ticket is being dealt with in general, I’m not talking about THIS one maintenance issue, I’m talking about individual issues. I’d have problems determining if anything is being done since the time to answer and give any feedback lately has been about at least 4 hr, more likely 8 hrs or more.
A real work tracking system tells you when people are on task. I guess you lack this experience since you’re not employed in an organization which consists of more than 10 people.
March 26th, 2007 at 1:05 pm
hey someone delete ms’s post… it shuts down your browser…etc i already know what it is…
March 26th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
I have submitted like 6 support tickets in the past week! Come on DH, what the hell is going on? I even moved to a new server because Brisk was acting up for me!
End the madness!
March 26th, 2007 at 1:45 pm
Tim: And what did they tell you?
Peace,
Gene
March 26th, 2007 at 2:00 pm
What do you mean, what did they tell me?
After switching servers yesterday everything was fine, but now my mysql is down (this is a first).
I have gone from 500 errors from CPU overload, to ftp problems, to many unscheduled downtimes, and now to mysql being down
March 26th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Tim: What did DH tell you with your 6 support tickets?
Peace,
Gene
March 26th, 2007 at 6:46 pm
Tim: One more thing: There was an outage for a short duration involving the MySQL servers, apparently. But it was fixed after a short while. So that’s what happened to you about 2 PM or so.
Peace,
Gene

all our sites hosted on V8 are extremely slow for the last whole week.
this service has become extremely unreliable.
July 4th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
My suggestion is to reduce the amount of live processes on the server since the capacity on the basic plan is very limited the outage may be due to the overactive account and going over the limits set forth for the basic plan.
August 27th, 2007 at 9:56 pm
Have there been other problems on this server? I might be getting hosted on it and I’d like to know. hoodia-man, I don’t see how the live processes have anything to do with being attacked.
September 5th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
I agree, what does live process have to do with DDOS?
September 18th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
I agree with the posts above me, but good to here everything works:)
