Here’s the update info:
Amazing Wordpress 2.1.3 Update Info!
Amazing Gallery 2.2.1 Update Info!
For Wordpress, it’s basically more exploit fixes and proofing, while Gallery 2.2.1 is a relatively minor bugfix release. Log in at the link below and click the upgrade links if you wish to perform these upgrades:
Dreamhost Panel One-Click Install Page
Be ready to restore your backup in case anything goes wrong, as sometimes happens with any software upgrade!
**UPDATE**
Ack, I messed up copying the new Wordpress and Gallery binaries to some of our machines, so if you ran a One-Click upgrade between 10am and 2pm PST on Wednesday April 4th, and your Wordpress or Gallery didn’t upgrade properly, write in to support@dreamhost.com with a subject of “Charlie messed up my One-Click Install!” with a list of one-clicks’ URLs. Sorry about that!

Why have the problems with broadway server not been listed? Anybody else on broadway having trouble with their sites connecting to databases? All of my sites connecting to databases have been down for two days now. I was told the problem was being worked on. The server was overloaded with traffic and having difficulty. Anybody else? Just so I know I’m not the only one?

I had upgrade to latest version through Web Panel. I received a mail with a link to upgrade. I clicked it and I clicked upgrade in the opened page, but in my blog is still wrote “Powered by WordPress 2.1.2″.
April 4th, 2007 at 11:22 am
@Ron: And when you got that information, who told you it was being worked on? DreamHost? Did you file a support ticket for a follow-up? Certainly a message here is just for venting. It has no other value.
@Lucrix: Did you actually update your theme to reflect the change? That is not done automatically by the new install.
One more thing: If you can’t use the one-click install or have a problem with it, there’s a recent WordPress plug-in that can handle a full installation of a new version right from the Dashboard. It’s called Instant Upgrade. Since I have two WP installations on my site, which came from another host, I can’t use one-click. But with Instant Upgrade, I can install the latest version I want, even the beta and final release candidates of updates, in a matter of 15-25 seconds at most. Your site visitors will barely notice.
Peace,
Gene

my site don`t work…
why?
April 4th, 2007 at 12:29 pm
I did an upgrade to 2.1.3 in the panel like I normally do for these things.
Though the panel says I am at 2.1.3, though /wp-admin says I am still at 2.1.2! Something is not right…
April 4th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
Very Good.Hope you do better,
And I believe you can.
April 4th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
I have the same problem. My /wp-admin stll is 2.1.2.
Or How do I know that my blog is in Wordpress 2.1.3 or 2.1.2 ?
Thank!

For all those who have problems with the One-Click. If you are willing to forego the one-click from now on, you can use that Instant Upgrade plug-in I mentioned. As I said, it upgrades you to the latest WordPress (or the version you specify) within seconds. In place. Amazing!
Peace,
Gene

“@Ron: And when you got that information, who told you it was being worked on? DreamHost? Did you file a support ticket for a follow-up? Certainly a message here is just for venting. It has no other value.”
Yes, after opening TWO support tickets. I’m not just venting. I’m pissed! And I’m just wondering if I’m the only one and why it wasn’t posted here. That’s all. And apparently I’m not the only one so it does have value.
They don’t have a post about it so where the Hell else am I supposed to ask about the status? I already got an OK that it’s fixed (yes, from support). It doesn’t matter, they lost a customer. I’m already in process of purchasing dedicated hosting elsewhere.

@Ron: The message I see is not what you’d normally get if the database server is down. It would be something that comes from your own site. What software do you use with the databases?
Peace,
Gene

Thanks for the upgrades!

Good work on the new updates, really appreciate it.

I wonder, are you dreamhost guys ever going to do anything with the suggestions?
There are so much good ones in there that would really increase Dreamhosts’s quality if done. (Or at least reject the ones you aren’t going to do anyway.)
Just a few examples:
“Allow replying to old messages via the panel, not just via email.”
“Put a rewards link on the default parked page.”

I used the one-click upgrade to Wordpress 2.1.3. When accessing the site I got an error: failed to open stream: Permission denied on wp-config.php.
What happened: the wp-config.php file was changed during the upgrade process and is now owned by root, not by my user, like all the other files. This is why I got the “permission denied” error. The old blog dir was renamed in blog.old during the upgrade and now it’s entirely owned by root. Therefore I am not able to access it to get the old wp-config.php file. It seems the upgrade process takes the changed files from current owner and gives them to the root user. Luckily, I had a backup of my blog on my computer and I managed to delete wp-config from live blog and create a new one from backup.

One click install for Gallery is not working even now… X___X
when I try to create a folder, the FTP server on espresso.dreamhost.com is even telling me “NO SPACE LEFT ON DEVICE - ERROR -140 - REMOTE MKDIR FAILED”
April 5th, 2007 at 4:36 am
I forgot to mention that the issue is appearing on espresso.dreamhost.com
April 5th, 2007 at 9:44 am
I have the same problem as several of the users above where my panel continued to show 2.1.2 after the upgrade. In addition, I’ve tried several times to email per Charlie’s comment in http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/2007/04/04/one-click-installs-wordpress-updated-to-213-gallery-updated-to-221/#comment-26071, but the email keeps bouncing back.
And now the server is down.

“@Ron: The message I see is not what you’d normally get if the database server is down. It would be something that comes from your own site. What software do you use with the databases?”
If you’re talking about the “Cannot make the connection” error message, that’s from phparcadescript. It’s nothing wrong with the script, the sites were fine for over a year. It’s not just one site. It’s all sites connecting to databases. A total of 5 sites of mine are currently inaccessible. It’s day 3 and still nothing is fixed nor is the problem mentioned on this blog.
Like I said before, I was told the server was overloaded with traffic and that was causing the MySQL connection malfunctions. It’s just irritating that it’s not mentioned or acknowledged. It isn’t my software, it isn’t my sites, it isn’t anything I changed, it isn’t on my end. I can’t even log into phpMyAdmin anymore. I double checked passwords and usernames, they haven’t been changed on me. I really hope my databases aren’t just gone……

@Ron - if they posted about every server that was having issues or that went down for a few minutes, this status blog would filled with tons of posts that you’d have to almost literally dig your way through to find relevant information for your site/server.
It’s nice enough they post about these things at all. Let’s leave it at that, shall we?
April 5th, 2007 at 5:28 pm
I was on the Starbrust server, then got moved to Fireballs (Database errors), and am now on Barry (Database errors).
I loged a support request, and was told that my site was NOT going to be moved off the over loaded servers - looks like dreamhost is having overloaded servers across the hole network.
Time to look for a new host becuase this problem has been plaging my network of sites (all 13 of them) with database errors for the past 11 1/2 days.
April 5th, 2007 at 5:35 pm
@amckern: Weird, but I have four sites running five databases (on four different servers). None have performance problems. One was moved to a different server early on, which fixed a few things. I find it odd that you can’t get your sites to work on three different servers. Just what sort of load are you presenting there?
Peace,
Gene

Every few minutes would be fine with me. This is 4 days in a row. If it’s nice enough that they post at all for you, then your sites aren’t doing much. I’m losing approximately $60/day. My sites can’t grow any further.
@amckern - Exactly what’s happening to my sites for 4 days now. Fireballs was mentioned in the support e-mail they sent me as being fixed. I didn’t know what fireballs was at the time, I thought it was a typo for firewalls. I get it now.
@mousee - They don’t have to talk about servers down for a few minutes, that’s fine with me. This is 4 days now and I guess I’m not the only one having trouble with “Fireballs”. So it would be nice to mention it. And, if it’s “It’s nice enough they post about these things at all” for you, and you’re happy with that, then fine. But I’m NOT. I’m losing approximately $60/day. My sites can’t grow any further. So I won’t “just leave it at that”.
I guess it’s just time I found a dedicated hosting solution. So that’s what I did.

Dreamhost has suspended my account secince i made my last comment, over an item not in the TOS, they seem to be not very happy with me.
Ron, i’m going to be seeking legal demages for downtime next week (After easter), if you & anyone else want to take part in class action, then please email amckern@yahoo.com or contact:

@amckern: Since you are raising the issue, what reason did they give for suspending your account?
Peace,
Gene
April 6th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
One more thing: I notice that amckern is also posting his own version of this story, which sounds really, really strange (since he was moved across several servers in a few days — or so he says), in the WebHostingTalk Forums. That was quick — sounds like a pre-planned action to me.
Peace,
Gene
April 7th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
This is a second follow-up:
Now the facts have come out: amckern admitted on WebHostingTalk.com that his account was suspended for hosting links to purloined ebooks, in violation of DreamHost’s Terms of Service. He even quotes the message there, at my urging and the urging of others.
Clearly he has no grounds to sue anyone — except maybe himself.
Peace,
Gene
