Jezebel : up and down

Posted (April 6th, 2007 at 11:59 am PST) by Steven

Our apologies for the downtime experienced with this web server. We’re working as quickly as possible to resolve the matter and restore server performance. Please check back here for further updates.

UPDATE: We are in the process of replacing the hardware on the machine. Everything will be resolved shortly. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and apprecitate your continued patience. Please check back for furture updates.

UPDATE:

I set Jezebel up on new hardware yesterday but unfortunately it was having problems this morning (totally unrelated to the initial case but we couldn’t consider things resolved) so I activated a crash logging system and kept top (to watch the processlist) all day and of course it has behaved. We’ll be monitoring it but I feel it is safe to say the issues with this machine are fixed.

Jezebel hath forsook me

Click on my name to see wats happening with my site. I m in no mood to talk with anybody.

Seems fine to me Bhavin…

Dan sometimes it runs fine, sometimes it show 500 server error :-s

All of my sites on Jezebel have been up and down most of the day.

It ain’t just this server… Schweppes is having the same problems, or so it looks from my end. Getting tired of people calling me up, but then I have nobody at Dreamhost to call. I’m a new customer, is this typical with Dreamhost? Should I move elsewhere?

Anyone else having problems on mug?

Also seems to be affecting spree. Been up and down all day.

looks like lucky took a hit? I had a complaint today that my site was down. Let’s just say it was very bad that particular person could not access my site :\

Scott, It’s not exactly “typical”. I’ve been a very happy DH customer for years.

Having said that, it’s unfortunate that most problems Dreamhost has been having are really only specific to new customers. I’ve had DH for nearly 3 yrs with maybe 4 hours of downtime, apart from the scheduled maintance. I sorry I can’t say this is unusual, but the reality is that they will likely work out all problems with new customers’ servers and you’ll likely only be reading about newer customers the you having problems.

@Robj: I’ve been a customer here since the end of December, so I’m new. I manage several accounts and we use four servers for five sites. Frankly, other than the well-known downtimes, my issues have been brief and haven’t impacted my businesses at all.

In general, performance is quite good, and I check things religiously. Probably more than I should.

Peace,
Gene

I’ve been on DH since january, and it has been typical since then unfortunately, we seem to get around an hour of downtime a day, usually early in the morning, i have montastic setup and from looking through the server stats, i get at least one email a day saying its down, as well as the calls.

Unfortunately it means we had to transfer hosts last night, it just got too much for the forums, customers are really impatient these days ! :) i like dreamhosts attitude, features and all that but at the end of the day, reliability does factor in, even with the cheap cost.

The tech support people are always friendly and helpful but its just too often its gone down, the slowness is fine since its cheap shared hosting, but having 1 hour+ outages more than a few times a week is just unfortunate.

I’m going to keep my account open and just use it as a testbed/scratchpad, and i hope that DH get their recent problems sorted out so the site can go back there. I heard a lot of good stuff in the past about DH, but it seems ever since the big move they’ had consitent issues.

thanks and good luck DreamHost!

Website is timing out yet again. Come on dreamhost.

Luckily, My sites are working fine now :-)

Hopefully it will stay like that.

Don’t quite check the status of my sites, so I rarely worry about them. Who knows how many up and downs there are each day. The vast majority of DH customers should be fine, cause’ they are not hanging around the web all the time.

JUST…..Please DH, what we pay is not justifying what we get. Everything else you are offering full-heartedly we appreciate, but it’s the only thing that bothers us, and it’s the DOWN TIME.

Yawn…been like this for a few days now on inko as well. Real bad. Just added a forum and can’t even set it up because my connection goes down every 5 minutes. Take forever to get anything done on any of my sites lately. Been visiting this status page way too much in the last month.

@Jimi: Have you filed support tickets for any of this? Your site works fine right now, assuming it’s the one linked to your name.

Peace,
Gene

@Gene: Yeah i sent in a ticket for it a little while ago with a low importance tag. It is a sub of that site I’m having problems with actually, but that site has been timing out off and on today. At least for me it has in the little time I have worked with it.

What’s the deal? I went to Support > Report outage and I got back “Outage resolved: No server-wide problem was found”. That’s not correct…my site is obviously down and is part of the jezebel outage. It’s weird that the outage system can’t verify this properly.

server down… again

I can’t even get to the control panel, let alone my own website or email.

OK, you are f’n killing me. I live blog Yankees games, and TONIC just went tits up in the middle of the fourth.

I wan t my money back.

Now.

When the Dream Host, goes give to us, user one service whit quality?

Again my website is down. AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN… The third time in week.

I pay to have on good webhost and not to my website down every weekend.

Sory the english but i whant onde service whit quality, don’t this servers. Aways Slow and aways donw.

Is that the “placeholder” site your name is linked to, Ronan, or what?

I’m seldom down and almost always fast, and I’m not doing anything special.

Did you file a customer service ticket, Ronan?

Peace,
Gene

I think Ronan is a spammer.

No, i’m not spammer.

My english is bad.

Gene Steinberg, i did one ticket. I aways make one ticket. The service come back quickly, but aways slow. And much time down.
I ask if can change my websit for another server, more powerfull and fast, but yet i dont recive any awser.

I only stay post here becouse i stay tired to see my website slow and down. Don’t down 1 or 2 times, down a lot time in this 4 months.

Not is only me. Very users stay in booth situation.

Sory i don’t not understanting where is “placeholder”.

@Ronan: Now I see your site. It loads a little slow, but I don’t know the underlying code structure or what resources you need. You see, not all slowdowns are the result of the host. There could be other reasons — but I do think you should pursue your dissatisfaction with DreamHost and see if they can help you get over the problem.

If they can’t, then you need to find someone who does.

Peace,
Gene

I have been down since 12pm est and 7 hour later I’m still out , no email or website and no way to talk to support.
Anyone know until when are they going to be down???????

Look This

Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

All mine are down on Fletcher.

WAAHHHHH My sites are down, and I’m on firestone.

I already turned in a support ticket, I just wanted to conform and complain on here too.

I am not a customer of DH,yet, and observing this Blog to get a feel about the hardware issues and how there are fixed, now i see that Jezebel is down since almost 30 hours (Posted 1 day, 5 hours ago (April 6th, 2007 at 11:59 am PST) by Steven) and still no update on the blog.So i wonder:is it normal for DH to need over 1 day to replace some hardware?
with best regards,

I actually fixed the hardware problem yesterday within a half hour or so of determining it was unfixible by other means (it only took 10 minutes or so to complete the process but updates on the new server take time to complete). Unfortunately I was on call and did not update the status page here for which I apologize, this has been corrected now though and I’ll be more thorough going forward.

ah ok,thxs for the clarification :)

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
