Downtime for several servers
A powerstrip in one of our racks has failed, leaving the following webservers without power:
firestone
fletcher
bob
lifesaver
In addition the following database servers are also down
scar
grizabella
We have an admin in the data center working to fix this right now. I will post updates with any information as soon as I have it.
Update: 8:15pm 4-7-7. All the effected servers are up and functioning now. If you’re still having any problems with your sites or databases hosted on the above servers please contact support.

bahh!!!

April 7th, 2007 at 5:41 pm
That’s what you get for running neon lights off the same strips as the servers!
April 7th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
That’s what you get for plugging the PS3 into that circuit.
April 7th, 2007 at 6:34 pm
How long is this gonna take, to many problems lately
April 7th, 2007 at 6:34 pm
I’m sure your jokes are appreciated
April 7th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
GOOD
April 7th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
I’m on loverboy and I’ve been experiencing some server downtime as well. is there any chance this server also failed or is going to fail?
April 7th, 2007 at 9:59 pm
Too many problems lately
April 7th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
There are two major problems; (NOTE problem number 2 is happening for the past about 3 days, NO REPORTS about this. NO HELP OFFERED. Only we reffer to level 2 and’t that all it happens.
1)
Site Temporarily Unavailable
We apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact the webmaster/ tech
support immediately to have them rectify this.
error id: “bad_httpd_conf”
2)
look at Status Bandwidth Usage and go down to status per
domain(s). Everything in there show as double. Every domain shows
twice and the second time shows as zero traffic but the first time
shows correctly. I tried to look on the forum and dreamhoststatus page
but noone is saying anything about that there is a problem like this.
April 7th, 2007 at 11:13 pm
Why do power strips keep failing? Maybe you should buy the cheap ones from walmart
Seem to work for me.
Of course, I don’t have racks of servers, do I…
April 8th, 2007 at 12:36 am
It looks like the web panel is either going really slowly, or is just completely unresponsive. I’m posting about it here because I can’t report it via the broken panel! Anyone know if there’s a support email address?
April 8th, 2007 at 12:47 am
All my domains are down. I’m on Popcorn.
Also, the Web Panel is slow and at times unresponsive… So whatever’s going on is clearly not over yet.
April 8th, 2007 at 12:47 am
aye, my sites are all still down. Not sure what host, cant login to dream panel either. No biggy, I’m sure u guys are on it.
April 8th, 2007 at 12:50 am
It looks as though either the entire dreamhost network is having issues. I can’t get DNS resolutions to work.
April 8th, 2007 at 12:52 am
You know … to send a message to the support i first need the panel …
The panel’s not working. None of my websites are working.
Oh come on guys, it’s easter … can’t we have ONE week without server drops ?
April 8th, 2007 at 12:53 am
Coffee server wasn’t responding till now. The same with web panel.
Now its responding very slowly.
April 8th, 2007 at 12:53 am
my site is still down?? :/
April 8th, 2007 at 12:56 am
I said either above, it was going to be either the network connectivity is cut or they are experiencing some massive bandwidth spikes. I was able to get onto the panel and submit a ticket very slowly.
Don’t worry, I’m sure they are quite aware of this problem right now.
April 8th, 2007 at 12:57 am
Severity: Medium Resolved: Yes
?!?!?
What is resolved?
April 8th, 2007 at 12:58 am
Gumdrop is also down. I can’t access FTP, my site and at least three other sites that I know are Dreamhost-hosted. I also can’t access the panel, either, hence I’m reporting here.
April 8th, 2007 at 12:59 am
Ocean seems to be down at the moment too? Sad though it is, I need to work on a new site today, so really need my web space up : (
April 8th, 2007 at 1:03 am
com’on guys…
kitkat does not answer and so does the panel…
must be DNS since one of my apps calls back home every once in a while and it can reach me even if i cannot reach it.
give us at least some status message on this blog… would appease a little to know what is wrong AGAIN…
keep up the (not so good, recently) work.
April 8th, 2007 at 1:04 am
About two-thirds of my sites on Twizzler are down. Also having some trouble accessing the DH panel.
April 8th, 2007 at 1:04 am
Looks like their DNS servers are f*cked up hard. This is as far as I can figure out.
April 8th, 2007 at 1:05 am
Oh yeah, they are aware of it and scrambling like mad. There was a spike. Something attacking the servers? With the hate’n I’ve seen in here it’s a sure bet there’s far worse hate’n out there as to being likely. Maybe that’s why DH hasn’t updated the dreamhoststatus page - yellow alert went into red right after they posted “resolved” as luck would have it.
April 8th, 2007 at 1:06 am
Yep, roobear is not happy either (mysql) and control panel is slow slow slow… 10 minutes waiting time…
Keep us up to date,.. things break down.., let it not be communication!
April 8th, 2007 at 1:06 am
I can’t seem to see any of Dreamhost apart from the support site, so I can’t log a ticket?
I seem to be seeing DNS Problems, and DNSStuff.com seems to think the same http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=wflt-comic.com&type=ALL :
How I am searching:

This is frankly getting ridiculous, I suggest you all sign up with http://www.montastic.com/ - its a free service that I’m using as my ‘Dreamhost Downtime Monitor’!!! Its free, brilliant and emails you when your site is down!!
My Dreamhost sites appear to be down (www.a-hall.com) and I’m on none of the servers specified above, plus the Panel’s down so also can’t lodge a support complaint.
Its just as well DH give you so much, because it only just excuses the downtime….
April 8th, 2007 at 1:17 am
@Chris Smith: Same here.
April 8th, 2007 at 1:18 am
The Mast Header on my site will not display in either Firefox or any mozilla browser, it shows up fine in Safari, I am unable to access the dreamhost panel, I don’t know what happened, yesterday, everything was fine…..
April 8th, 2007 at 1:19 am
Downtime all over. My sites, as well as favorite forum-site CascadeClimbers, all down.
April 8th, 2007 at 1:20 am
i use montastic too. i get lots of downtime everyday with my sites. and now all my sites are down again:
http://www.linkchannels.com
http://www.articlewheel.com
http://www.articlevibe.com
0by.org
http://www.earthweaver.info
etc..
April 8th, 2007 at 1:21 am
Ya - all down for me, too.
DH is having a DNS disaster: None are responding.
April 8th, 2007 at 1:26 am
My server is not listed there and my sites are down???
April 8th, 2007 at 1:27 am
and mine and my friend’s site is down too. it’s not listed above. It’s in ‘mcclure’ server
April 8th, 2007 at 1:32 am
My domains hosted on jolt also are down. Theres no webpanel too!
So I believe that this is the only place to get help.
Anyone on Dreamhost will give us an update status of the whole situation??
April 8th, 2007 at 1:34 am
None of my sites (on warhead) is currently DNS-reachable. Panel is OK.
@Ash Hall: I use montastic too, but the problem with montastic is that it’s zero configurable, and if a page takes long to load (not unheard of at Dreamhost) it is just displayed as generically “down”, and apparently not requeried for 30 minutes. And I just checked my sites at montastic - they’re all green except for one!
April 8th, 2007 at 1:35 am
‘whittier’ also seems unwell. Can not FTP or telnet in to it.
April 8th, 2007 at 1:40 am
oh, it’s a new issue, filed 1 min ago. see next page.
April 8th, 2007 at 1:41 am
Surely the point of DNS is that it allows for load balancing and redundancy - Why don’t DH take the hint, get some additional servers elsewhere (Europe HINT HINT), not only would it improve speed for your European but it would also allow for redundancy when EVERYTHING goes down, such as right now??
April 8th, 2007 at 1:44 am
@Orange
Good point but then its a free service, I think we’ll see it evolve into a small paid service perhaps - I admit though, for some reason Montastic isn’t showing DH sites as down at the moment? Bizarre?
April 8th, 2007 at 2:33 am
I think it’s the actual DNS server which has nothing to do with DH. I plugged in the IP for dreamhoststatus.com, which I lost contact with into my “hosts” file and now I can access it.
This also worked with “panel.dreamhost.com”
April 8th, 2007 at 2:57 am
I still think things are down - at least they appear that way to me.
April 8th, 2007 at 3:20 am
This happens all to often on a Sunday. FIX IT PLEASE!
April 9th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
Geez databases have been for about a week. This is really ridiculous. If there are problems with databases, perhaps there should be less users on it.
April 12th, 2007 at 3:28 pm
Aw man. Alright, might as well wait. XD Too many users true, but…xD That MIGHT not be the problem…XD Gaaah…
