Slowness and downtime on spacey
One of our file servers is getting rebooted due to IO and mount errors. Those errors may have caused (or are still causing) slowness or downtime if your domains/email is on the spacey servers. No data was affected. You can verify if this affected you by checking your Account Status (Your Email Server) on the upper right side of the control panel.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Please check back for updates.

i’m on tonic. tonic is down, AGAIN, for half a day now.
Time to get my money back, you people have breeched your contract.
April 17th, 2007 at 10:24 am
Gosh, I hoped I could publish my new layout between all the downtime, but I guess that’s impossible.
April 17th, 2007 at 10:32 am
My sites are not bad
Hope DH resolve this issue soon.
April 17th, 2007 at 10:39 am
@Jeff G - What contract?
April 17th, 2007 at 10:42 am
Oh wonderful.
Smack bang in the middle of a game launch.
I hope this is fixed soon…
April 17th, 2007 at 10:56 am
our site is down
April 17th, 2007 at 10:59 am
I’m on spacey and no problems here.
April 17th, 2007 at 11:11 am
We’re on spacey. Sporadic ‘mailbox is busy’ errors, but nothing that won’t go through on a retry.
April 17th, 2007 at 11:22 am
still down, still no response from DH regarding my service ticket.
April 17th, 2007 at 11:30 am
@Jeff G - they have been busy latelly with all the support tickets and issues. Did you check that its urgent and ppl are dying that level of importance? if not you arent considered as important as people who do. People who check that usually get a reply within 1 hour, at least i do.
Also what contract are you talking about, theres no contract
And also spacey e-mail is great its working beatifully today.
April 17th, 2007 at 11:32 am
@ brasscrest: What contract ?
When you sign up for a service and pay for it you are making a contract and by the DH´s policy if customer wants his money back within his 90 day money back guarantee he can. I think you are confusing yourself with the SLA which is a different kind of agreement that in this case don’t apply here.
April 17th, 2007 at 11:38 am
I’m on Swarthy and email is down…at least for one of my domains.
April 17th, 2007 at 11:52 am
@Diogenes - No, I’m not confused at all. It is true that the DH TOS could be considered a form of contract, and would probably be construed under contract law in most cases. But, even if the TOS is a contract, downtime does not “breech” (or breach) the contract, because there is no promise of any specific uptime in the TOS. In fact, such a promise is explicitly disclaimed. The 90-day money-back “guarantee” (actually 97 days, at least when I signed up) is not really a guarantee, as it does not enforce any specific obligation on DH’s part, but is rather a form of refund.
I do feel a bit sorry for anyone on one of the “beverage” servers - they do seem do have more downtime than most.
April 17th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
some of our emails go through, sometimes we get a 450 server configuration error.
April 17th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
We experenced a gradual slowing down over the past 4 hours.
Site access is slow but acheivable.
Access to the Panel, FTP and WebFTP times out and is thus unuseable.
It appears to be a Dreamhost wide problem and not restricted to Spacey which we do not access.
April 17th, 2007 at 12:54 pm

April 17th, 2007 at 5:42 pm
Flooding here isn’t going to make them any faster, Jeff. As I said, my site is on tonic, and it’s up, so it’s not a server-wide problem.
April 17th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
I cannot post/edit any articles on my blog.
Has these problem been resolved, yet?
April 17th, 2007 at 5:49 pm

it’s now 9:30pm ET - TONIC still down. STILL NO RESPONSE FROM DH SUPPORT.
still want my money back.

April 17th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
gee Dani, who gored your ox? Or you own stock in DH and pissed to see it frittering away with crap support and constant downtime?
April 17th, 2007 at 7:05 pm
i took a nap at 5:30pm est time and i woke up and theres still a problem with my site down.
main = minutemaid

April 17th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
@Jeff G - Dani’s had a few too many Red Bulls today. but part of me agrees.
April 17th, 2007 at 10:31 pm
My sites are just find, but my emails are indeed slow
April 17th, 2007 at 11:59 pm
Didn’t even notice anything, I’m on spacey, my only “complaint” would be having to read Jeff G’s ridiculous posts.
Otherwise, keep up the great work.
April 18th, 2007 at 3:54 am
@Jeff G - Your site’s back up, stop complaining now :p
April 18th, 2007 at 4:50 am
I can’t get into my site. Is there any way for me to know if this outage is the reason why? Thanks.
April 18th, 2007 at 4:57 am
I’m on gingerale and all my domains are horribly slow. I’m a new convert to dreamhost but hope this isn’t typical.
April 18th, 2007 at 7:32 am
My email server is spunky and my web is pocky, ive been down for 4 days anybody else on the same servers experiencing the same thing?
April 18th, 2007 at 7:33 am
99.90% Uptime, 3:47 downtime this week
Whats the problem?
April 18th, 2007 at 7:39 am
@aleman - What server(s) are you on? I’ve not had any downtime either, but if I were on any of the “beverage” named servers I think it might be a different story - these seems to be the ones with the problems right now.
April 18th, 2007 at 9:43 am
My site is down, I am on lipton.
Thanks to have a look,
Tiger
April 18th, 2007 at 10:46 am
Our email is still screwy on spacey. It says the issue is resolved, anyone else still having problems?
Thanks
April 18th, 2007 at 11:22 am
Come ON! All three of my sites take forever to load or do not load at all…
This is silly!!!
April 18th, 2007 at 11:27 am
Thanks for that useful tip, Dani. It really brought my site right back up!
April 18th, 2007 at 12:29 pm
Jeff G., did you try telling your mommy on Dreamhost? That should accomplish almost as much as crying here.
April 18th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
hmm weird, you said it’s been solved but I’m still getting ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server.
Query: SELECT “INBOX”
April 18th, 2007 at 2:40 pm
This is not a paid comment from Google.
PSST SWITCH TO GOOGLE APPS FOR EMAIL. It’s not even that hard, I got it all done in about 10 minutes.
April 18th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
I’m on fresca, all my sites get error 500. My email is on spacey though. Is there any connection ? I’m getting sick with your services. You better fix this problem very soon.
April 18th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
I echo the technical issues stated by Adinda, though I disagree about the service in general– it’s been great.
April 18th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
My webpages are on monster but my email is on spacey. As of right now, both my sites are down. They just keep spinning, never loading, no error message. Would the downtime on spacey be causing this even though my sites are on monster? I seem to be receiving email just fine…
I have only been a dreamhost customer for about a month and a half, but it seems like my site is always down. For probably at least an hour a day, about 5 days a week. I hope this is not the norm….
April 18th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
I still don’t think I can get to my [joomla] site. It’s hosted on sparkletts and it seems like it’s not able to access pluto.
April 18th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
Amanda,
My site is on Milk and my email on spacey and right now both are down.
I’m a new customer like you and I switched because hostgator had terrible email problems which they refused to solve. I just can’t catch a break. My clients are still pissed even though I said dreamhost is very reliable.
I TOO hope this is not the norm.

April 18th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
Jeff, I switched from a very reliable server, amhosting.com. I can count on one hand the number of times it went down in the 5 years I was a customer.
I switched because Dreamhost offered 2 gigs of space for the same price I was paying for 500 mb.
Which would I rather have… No space or never up?? Hmmm…
I guess you just can’t win.
April 18th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
Resolved my ass. I can’t access any of my sites and the panel says not to write in regarding problems with spacey-related servers. Wonderful. :/
April 18th, 2007 at 10:18 pm
So why is this marked as resolved? The error pages also return an error but their http status code is 200. This makes the site monitor services to think the sites are up and also the bots will probably index the error message instead.
April 18th, 2007 at 10:51 pm
I’m on spacey. I can’t access my site, yet the issue is considered resolved. My 90 days ended a few days ago. This bites.
April 19th, 2007 at 12:16 am
Resolved!? Of course NOT!

Sites has been down all morning. No response from support. I moved my site this month to dreamhost, so the entire month is not fully represented - I had 100% uptime with my old host.
Please contact me dreamhost. I would like to work through this issue, as it seems to be an ongoing one (at least with the server I am on). I would appreciate your help in solving this issue very much, Thank you.
April 19th, 2007 at 7:46 am
This issue is not resolved yet obviously. I don’t know why it is marked as such.
April 19th, 2007 at 9:12 am
I can verify as well that it’s not resolved as of 10:10 PST.
April 19th, 2007 at 11:40 am
Still fubar and they took down the spacey notice on the support page!

April 19th, 2007 at 12:21 pm
My sites are down again as well. J, where do you find that information? I would be interested to know how often my site has been down for the months of March/April. It has been a LOT.
