April 19th, 2007 at 1:03 pm
Tonic down too (as of the past 20 minutes or so, after it already received a reboot a few hours ago).
April 19th, 2007 at 1:04 pm
Finally! I’ve been moaning for about an hour.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:04 pm
Email’s on Spacy, domains on Crush, and like Matthew my domains won’t resolve either.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:04 pm
I’m thinking there must be some really big problems with spacey, it’s been in and out for the past day or so. It’s actually getting quite frustrating for me. I would really like to see this resolved sometime soon. Cheers.

So this is motive from bad_httpd_conf ?????
April 19th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
Seems like horchata is down too.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
@John: I concur. The past days I’ve had to pretty much open support tickets every other day because of tonic’s FTP/shell/web being down. Mail is on spacey but I haven’t noticed much of that (because I have primary MX running to my own mail servers).
April 19th, 2007 at 1:08 pm
ZOMG, it’s a Dreamhost Holocaust!
April 19th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
Me too.

April 19th, 2007 at 1:10 pm
tonic down, spacey down.
I think I pay to see “Site Unavailable” at this point.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
All of our sites and clients’ completely down on Marvin server, and Randy email server. It’s been down all afternoon….
April 19th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
Not the right time for this! We need our site bad.
We’re trying to get a “Web Orange And Maroon Effect” going for Friday. We’ve challenged all webmasters and bloggers to incorporate VT colors into their site for the day. Learn more and check sites that are participating.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
I say we march to the headquarters of Dreamhost and demand lower prices if they’re going to keep crashing our websites!
We can chant something like…
“H-T-T-P-4-0-4, we don’t want to pay no moe!”
April 19th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
I cannot connect to any of my sites, but logging in and seeing my files does work.
Anyway this is becoming something of a regular occasion and it’s not much fun.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
A seperate issue, I’ve logged a ticket with email problems ftp issues and accessing websites on monster
April 19th, 2007 at 1:15 pm

April 19th, 2007 at 1:16 pm

April 19th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
DreamHost’s BBB report:
http://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Business/CompanyReportPage_Expository.aspx?CompanyID=13131294
April 19th, 2007 at 1:18 pm
@Matthew: Yeah, I understand that. Was just trying to bring a little light humor to the ongoing sad frequency of the downtime.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
good for you buzzdroid, right on.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:23 pm
This is the 3rd time since I started using dreamhost in January. Please make the service more stable!
April 19th, 2007 at 1:27 pm
Great… their rating is a B. Not a BB or a BBB, but a B. I switched over from ICDSoft.com because I really like having all of my domains housed in one area with the unlimited DBs and a ton of disk space. Of course none of that jack squawt if they’re always unavailable.
I cried when I left ICDSoft. Their support staff never went past an hour before getting back to me. Normally it was within 20 minutes. I think I had one outage with them for all of two minutes.
Here I get ignored until after the problem is fixed. I have never in my IT life heard of a 10 hour outage.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:34 pm
Tonic is down too… ALL my sites are down, jesus. Every week I have one day where a site has problem, what’s going on guys!??!?!
April 19th, 2007 at 1:37 pm
Half of my site was disappeared. Web on crush, mail on spacey.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:38 pm
I find it funny that their site never goes down.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:41 pm
Ah, look, some sites on tonic are coming back up right about now…
April 19th, 2007 at 1:45 pm
Well… Don’t hurry off and join another service like this one…. surpasshosting.com is 1000 times worse and more expensive!
I’m sure it will be fixed asap…. at least they notify us - some other companies don’t even do that!
Drink some water, get scared DreamHost…. hope you get rid of the hiccups asap!

April 09th, 2007 (late in the evening).
I started monitoring (with Montastic) my domains hosted on DreamHost
by, April 19th, 2007
I have received over 117 emails telling me my websites went down and up.
So, if you figure about half for down and the other half for up.
The down time was for anywhere between 30mins. to over 2.5 hrs.
that websites were not reachable.
That’s … approximately 58.5 downs in 10 days
April 19th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
@StefanDidak are your sites okay now?
April 19th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
Henrik: Yes, it looks like things are all there. Responding a bit sluggish but that is often the case after a major reboot/remount for a few minutes.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:51 pm
After reading all of this ( something I should have done first - duh ) I’m giving these guys another week before I jump ship. None of my projects are in critical mode …yet.
However, if I’m proporting to be a professional, there’s no way in hell I can go to my clients and tell them I’m going to host their websites with a company that seems to be down just as much as they seem to be up.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Why are these guys so unstable? bad hardware or software?
April 19th, 2007 at 1:54 pm
@Henrik: Not a minute after I said it’s all running again… they’re all timing out again. I think you jinxed it by asking.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:58 pm
up…then down…back up…then down…getting dizzy
April 19th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
@Jeff G: rename dream*.* bungie*.*
April 19th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
I see why my sites going solwly now. Thanks for the warning. But the DOWN DOWN AGAIN maybe make me insaned.
April 19th, 2007 at 2:21 pm
Mail has been out for 4 days now and I can’t even get a call back.
Is the service always like this
April 19th, 2007 at 2:24 pm
@StefanDidak: Did you check the network latency from your computer to “your” Dreamhost-server?
April 19th, 2007 at 2:26 pm
How might I do that?
April 19th, 2007 at 2:29 pm
@Henrik: Yeah, I did. The latency is very low and not different from normal, that’s about 90-150ms on average (from the three different broadband hookups running from my home to get a clear picture) for both tonic.dreamhost.com (which appears to actively refuse any connections right now) as well as the few different web servers/names/IPs.
April 19th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
@StefanDidak: Ah, I see. What did the support say about your issues? And are you running any dynamically generated (database run) sites?
@swills: You do a traceroute from your pc to your domain.
April 19th, 2007 at 2:34 pm
I had wondered why my sites were being sluggish.
April 19th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
@Henrik: Earlier today when everything went down I was told that tonic was rebooted and was having some problems (like it has been the past week, every other day or so), haven’t heard back from the second ticket I opened before the status post appeared. Two sites (www.stefandidak.com and http://www.podcastasylum.com have a WP back-end so there’s some DB stuff but pages that do not require any DB connection also timed out just the same). Ditto for FTP/shell to tonic which is usually indicative of the rest being down too.
April 19th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
@Swills (once again): While googling I found these 2 sites that will help you:
http://www.ocssolutions.com/support/traceroute.php
http://kb.iu.edu/data/aihy.html
Good luck!
April 19th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
I figured you ment TRACERT, and I did a trace to mail.stonesunlimited.com and it times out the last 2 hops.
I get to ge1-l3.dreamhost.com and then timeout the last 2 hope…….
April 19th, 2007 at 3:28 pm
Seriously, are these outages really this common? I am new to website hosting and just created a site in the past month. I signed up with dreamhost because of the great deals on the web. Since signing up my site has continually gone down, usually in the evening. I have been patient understanding these things can happen. But, now I am just getting frustrated that it happens two or three times a week for my site. It isn’t even a large site, and I am usually the only visitor at the moment. It is a forum, so how can expect anyone to join if it is continuously down?
April 19th, 2007 at 3:32 pm
It used to be much better than this. There was a time when I’d recommend them to pretty much everyone. However this has changed over the course of the last year or so.
April 19th, 2007 at 5:33 pm
Sorry, guys, but your service is simply terrible.
Today, there were just 83.11% of uptime (3h23min offline until now!) - data obtained from Pingdom.com.
Since 4/9, there were just one day with 100% uptime.
In the sum of last ten days, I just had more than 9 hours of downtime (while my other servers had no more than 15 minutes).
Every day I see server problems in my server.
That is unacceptable!!!
April 19th, 2007 at 6:07 pm
looks like caprisun is down as well.
if someone would let us know what is going on and perhaps estimate an estimated time frame for a solution, we might at least be able to handle all of this down time.
good luck!
