Maybe a panel issue caused my dilemma. I've been in the throes of this for 2 1/2 days now, no resolution, my main web store (and all others) dysfunctional.
I've narrowed it down to a mySQL bug, brought about because of a BUG in the dreamhost panel software.
This bug resulted in loss of all my hosting information for that one domain. I've rebuild almost all of it, with the exception of one little problem. Here's the latest.

I think the data base settings are corrupted.
I believe that the mySQL software is updating pointers when info is deleted.
BUT I believe that the actual data cannot be written when data changes or is
added. Because I'm not getting write errors, but no NEW data is saved.
This is a mySQL bug - and it's a nasty one.

Does anyone know who I can contact about this? Support was very helpful in peeling the onion until I got into the db realm. I haven't heard anything from them for almost 24 hours.

For the record, in the last month, I have had a 98.64% uptime. Most of the downtimes lasted less than 10 minutes, and most of those recorded were connection errors. I'm sure that number will continue to improve - but for now, it's fairly fantastic. Of course, as "why" said in his last post, it really does matter as to which cluster you're on. My server (baht) is in the Randy cluster, which may be one of the most stable in the company. So, if you are REALLY having problems, you could always contact support and ask them to move you onto another machine, either in the same cluster (sometimes it really is just your machine) or to another cluster.
