Server vine moving to new hardware
Posted (May 4th, 2007 at 9:22 am PST) by StevenThe server vine has been having some hardware issues so we’re going to move it over to new hardware. The process should take about 30 minutes. We will post an update here when the process is complete.
We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you for your patience!

Is anyone having trouble accessing the control panel? All my sites are down, but I can’t even get to the control panel to lodge a complaint. This is not an internet issue for me as all other sites on the web that I’ve checked are accessible.
Yep. Can’t get nowhere.
Yes, all of my sites, the control panel, the dreamhost web site are all down. From one server move???
I out of commission too - it’s sad that my XP home PC running apache has more uptime than my server at dreamhost. I expected more from them.
PLEASE… I’m very disappointed with Dreamhost…. Why are my sites ALWAYS down.. At least once a week - either my sites or email suffer from some Host-related problem. I manage 3 websites with images hosted for other sites… and My emails are intermittently lagging.. or telling me I need a new password.. or can’t find the server. I’ve never had so many problems. Please.. Just get stable!!! PLEASE. PLEASE PLEASE.
Yes, all my sites are down, the Dreamhost panel and email as well. All from one server being moved? I was working updating one of my site at the time, so all is at a standstill at this point and this announcement was not posted right away!
But please keep up good work!
All of my stuff on VINE appears to be working again. This is the first time I’ve had any trouble with the actual server in the over 1 yr I’ve been a customer.
POP server is still down.
panel.dreamhost.com is still down.
Can someone with actual access to the dreamhost support page
please submit a “panel.dreamhost.com is down for some customers
report?
THanks!
Problem: Severity Low?? when the panel is down?
Resolved: Yes!?! It is still mdown as I read it. To dreamhost should you not change the wording as “IN PROCESS”
Also, why is this timestamping things in Hawiian Daylight Time?
Status.dreamhost.com page indicates that this issue has been “Resolved” but my sites are still down and I am unable to reach panel.dreamhost.com to submit the problem either.
Anyone out there on “cienega”? My web sites, mail, panel, everything is down. In the middle of the busy Friday morning!
All my sites and panel are down… even http://www.dreamhost.com is still down !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
panel is working here…a little slow to load (compared to earlier) but it still loads up fine.
I’m still getting my mail … so I sent a random HELP email to support@dreamhost.com
I still can’t access the panel or any of my sites. It seems strange that DH employees wouldn’t monitor this site at all in the case that the panel goes down.
sites, email, and dreamhost.com still down..and no words from dreamhost - i think they’ve gone home for the day.
Wow, a bunch of panel complaints in a post that has nothing to do with the panel. Huge surprise.
Panel works for me. Dreamhost.com is NOT down.
And when the panel is down (not when people say it’s down, even though it isn’t), Dreamhost already knows because they use it themselves. You do realize your keyboard isn’t hooked up to a Dreamhost server, right? There is this thing called the internet, and sometimes, it has problems that aren’t Dreamhost’s fault.
“Comments posted here may not be viewed by DreamHost staff at all. This is not a way to contact DreamHost.”
Gee, I wonder what this link could possibly be for? https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=support.msg&
Dreamhost.com
is
not
down.
Agreed. Shut up. Do a tracert. I bet its your fault not DH
OK… http://www.dreamhost.com IS down for me.. all other sites I go (like this one I am posting message to) are working fine. So my INTERNET connection works as well !!!
panel and all my websites are DOWN!!!
How do you post to https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=support.msg& when that link is NOT working??????????????????????????
Well, doh! Since I can’t reach the panel I guess I will go post a support ticket! :^(
Why don’t you be a dear, since you can reach the panel, and post a support ticket for us?
“Gee, I wonder what this link could possibly be for? https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=support.msg&”
shove that attitude where the sun don’t shine take this guys approach http://www.prosoundweb.com/fun/Photofun/76-head_up_ass.jpg
maybe some people can’t access the panel
I wonder. Some of you folks insist that there’s a problem, whereas others don’t see any such thing.
Could it be that it’s a localized situation, with your ISP, perhaps?
You might want to try this as well: Go to http://www.opendns.com and change your DNS settings from that of your ISP to theirs. You’ll get faster performance, phising protection, shortcuts and lots more. And it’s free.
Peace,
Gene
do a trace route on http://www.dreamhost.com
See where it fails, if others can get there and you cant its not DH’s fault. Most likely its your ISP’s DNS
Yeah - email still down AND panel and main dreamhost website still down. At least update the status page. I need to send an important email to a client and this happens. Unbelievable.
My client cannot access the site, however i can. They’re using sbc/att dsl. They’re unable to access dreamhost.com/webmail/their own domain.
hmm. me too with sbc/att dsl……. how come this happen?????????
Hrm. Two people with SBC/ATT, its must be DNS
Try opendns as Gene said. Bet you it will fix your problems. Ma’Bell’s DNS is notorious for unreliability
so, i can’t access dreamhost or the panel, or any of my sites, or email.

Dreamhost and sbc not getting along?
Confirmed. It’s some kind of DNS issue at our end. I was tricked at first because every other site I normally visit was reachable, and with this status post, I assumed the issues were related. Unfortunately, I have confirmed as well (by surfing remotely from another box far away) that my sites are indeed down. (”Site temporarily unavailable”)
… which sucks, because I can’t submit a support ticket from home (my terminal-based browser on the other box barfs from the JavaScript). Doh.
OK trace timed out on hop 6 at ex1-p14-0.eqsjca.sbcglobal.net and then picked up again at hop 9 and continued on to dreamhost.
i setup opendns on the router and it works like a charm
Back up.
@Nicole
It it is a DNS issue.
Anyone still saying Dreamhost.com down is too stupid to be on the internet.
It’s amazing how many people here try to blame the fact that they’re stupid on Dreamhost.
Thank You Tom Vachon - sbc here, changing dns was the magic ticket. cheers!
Geez Louise, Tom Vachon and WAAAAAAAAMBULANCE, please to get oneself a grip.
1. Official dh policy is that this is the place to go when all else fails. All else failed.
2. More than one person with exactly the same problem is a very strong indicator that there is a problem.
3. panel.dreamhost.com != http://www.dreamhost.com. But thanks for playing.
4. Problem seems to have been resolved, so “works for me” should be ‘works for me now”. Which is only sortof helpful.
For me the outage is traceable to an sbcglobal.net link [151.164.41.10] I can’t of course figure out how to notife/complaint to ATT/SBC but when I get online via my Verizon wireless account I can get to my Dreamhost stuff.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Tracert
Go to Start, Run
Type cmd and hit enter
In the command prompt window type tracert dreamhost.com
You should get a series of “hops” from the nearest IP link all the way to dreamhost. In my case, after three hops, I start getting “Request timed out.” The last one before these is apparently the culprit.
My bet is that everyone having trouble is being routed through this sbc link.
Art, justify being stupid all you want, but it’s still not a good thing. Everyone with a brain knew this wasn’t a Dreamhost problem.
1. Where do you see that policy? I see this on every page: “Comments posted here may not be viewed by DreamHost staff at all. This is not a way to contact DreamHost.”
2. No it isn’t. It was a strong indicator that people here are stupid. No one was looking for a solution, they were just being little babies crying about DH, when there wasn’t a DH problem.
3. Learn how to read, idiot. Read the posts where everyone.
4. There was no Dreamhost problem. Does this look like an ISP complaint form to you?
Idiot.
Everything is back up for my sites hosted by DH, email and dreamhost panel as of 11:57 P.S.T.
>>> Everyone with a brain knew this wasn’t a Dreamhost problem.
And, obviously, some people without.
Are you trying to include yourself? Because I doubt you really knew, since you were the first idiot that posted here and tried to link it to a panel problem.
THE WAAAAAAAAMBULANCE,
Whoa. My sites are still down. It IS a DH problem. Down as in, I can contact the server and it is giving me “error id: “bad_httpd_conf”, which I need to get to the panel to fix (to rebuild the apache conf). The fact that I couldn’t get to the panel myself to do this hack is only incidental to the fact that DH made a mistake somewhere and tanked the apache conf for my site.
I love DH, but stop being such a fanboy.
I’m not being a fanboy, retard. I’m being the voice of common sense where there doesn’t seem to be much of it.
The wiki lists a fix you can try yourself for that. How come I know that but you don’t? Oh yeah, I can read.
If that doesn’t work, C O N T A C T S U P P O R T, like you’re supposed to. It’s not hard.
Your problem, like everyone else’s, has absolutely nothing to do with this post.
Wow, look at this!
I went to wiki.dreamhost.com.
I typed bad_httpd_conf into the search box.
I hit, “Go.”
This page came up: http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Bad_httpd_conf
And I did it all in less time than it took you to make an irrelevant whiny post here.
Hey, I have been with DH for years and I think they are great too. But I just lost everything again: the panel, email, all my sites. There is a problem and they are not updating this page properly as their comment that one server has a problem is not correct. It is taking longer than 30 minutes as stated and the problem is not resolved as stated. My websites are stored on ‘noid” whatever that means and to tell you the truth it is not my job to know, understand or care about that, it is DH’s job to manage and deliver services the best way they can. I just wish better status was kept as it is frustrating to lose service in the middle of work and i start to wonder how often I lose service without beeing aware of it.
PLEASE GET THIS RESOLVED NOW…… Why would you do these kinda things during prime time?
And yet you posted no tracert results.
The panel isn’t down. This page has nothing to do with your problems.
RE, it’s not Dreamhost’s job to pull your head out of your ass for you.
Man this is a problem. All the sites I have hosted here are down and don’t you know that one wants all kinds of work done now. I can’t access anything. WTF!
same here…..EVERYTHING IS DOWN!
WTF! WTF! WTF!
Your site is up.
Learn how to read.
Are you guys having a stupid contest? So far, I see a tie for 1st place.
Rod, you seem like a genius. Maybe you can tell me where I just copied this from, if your site that I never heard of before is down: “Exhead.com | Affordable Web Design & PC Repair:”
WAAAAAAAAMBULANCE, my service has been down for long enough and is still down. Pulling my head out of my ass? It’s DH’s job to pull the service back.
You may have copied it from my butt where you face is firmly planted.
Dear THE WAAAAAAAAMBULANCE:
I have experience working as a sysadmin. There may have been a few assumptions on our part that not being able to reach our sites or or anything on the dreamhost domain coincidently happened at the exact same time as a server move. But if those of us using sbc/att, sbc/yahoo to get out to the internet can get to every site we go to except our own and dreamhost, then there is some sort of resolving issue between dreamhost and sbc. Which means it is at least partly a dreamhost issue.
In other words, you’re too stupid to understand that your sites aren’t down. You’re a genius.
So I am alone posting here about connection issues to email, uRL and FTP?
RE, it still isn’t Dreamhost’s job to pull your head out of your ass. If you want something fixed, contact support. But unless the control panel is in your ass, you will have to remove your head before you can see the form.
Rod, how is that Dreamhost’s problem. I can see your site. It’s not down. DH doesn’t own the internet. Run a tracert and see where the problem is.
I suspect that WAAAAAAAAMBULANCE is IT for Dreamhost and is having fun with customers. I have been with Dreamhost 6 years and probems only started recently.
Maybe WAAAAAAAAMBULANCE is just the echo in this room that has no other users complaining about connection problems.
opendns.com is no longer working on my router. the original dns settings are being used. Its a cayman 3546.. any ideas? It worked for about 10 minutes.
Josh WAAAAAAAAMBULANCE says we are imaginging this issue. Maybe Josh is a figment of my imagination too?
Rod, what is your ISP? Several problems with SBC/ATT have been reported. I have feeling that the core backbone of ATT is seing a problem. Probally localized to the south. I also know there was a fiber fire in Boston, which oculd affect this if you are in that area, although AT one the core in the modwest and south. Report it to your isp if you can not to a traceroute to get close to DH.
Take that for stupidty Art.
Josh, try putting open DNS into your computer, see if that clears it up.
WAAAAAAAAMBULANCE i would love to contact support, but http://www.dreamhost.com is not working from my computer, so just shove your head up your ass where your comments come from
@The J
did you try the already suggested DNS fixes?
yes, and it worked for a few min. but not any more
I have set up opendns on the individual’s machine, no luck, i have set it up on the router, and the router doesnt seem to be saving the dns ips properly, the router will grab sbc’s dns servers after the save/restart.
The J, that IS NOT a Dreamhost problem. Get a better ISP if you don’t like it.
Dreamhost.com is NOT down. Period.
OK SBC is forcing you to use their DNS via DHCP. I dont know what to tell you, is it their router or your own?
@The J,
Can you respond to the above question I posed to Josh?
Well, I was hoping to find out why my sites are having problems, and I find half the crap here is nothing but flames. No wonder DH put a disclaimer about not reading these comments; I wouldn’t want to read through this shit all the time, either.
To: WAAAAAAAAMBULANCE
Oh yeah, you’re really helping the situation, huh? Seems like YOU need the waambulance called for YOU. You say you aren’t a fanboy? You’re the worst I’ve seen in these boards to date. In spite of the almost constant issues from DH, since the beginning of the year, anyway, you’re attacking people who are having problems. Instead of being decent, and trying to help people, you go after them like they attacked your mother. DH isn’t perfect, and has been extremely far from it thus far this year. They do work the problems out, thankfully, but how many more times am I going to get dozens upon dozens of emails in a day, because the database on my server is down, yet again? In the past couple of months alone I’ve gotten hundreds of these emails. 75% of the time there is NOTHING on the status page regarding my servers when something is down for my sites; whether it is the site itself, email, ftp, the control panel, or mysql. Let me guess, the problem is due to ALL the people that visit my sites being idiots? Give me a break.
I’m relatively new to DH, and had I checked around things like this before signing up, I probably wouldn’t have. The problems are annoying enough, and I’ve had more than a few in less than 6 months; but the sniping on here? Absolutely pathetic. People like you, WAAAAA, are why I don’t usually bother with these boards. Half the time it is nothing but stupid damn flaming.
Since you’re so intelletually and technically superior to EVERYONE, why don’t you put your knowledge into helping people figure out a problem, instead of insulting them, or being a jackass?
I spoke with SBC and they are aware of the issue. ‘there is a local server tunnel in california that is not working’ and that some clients will be unable to visit some websites. should be fixed soon. there is no ETA available to the tech.
Thanks for the update Josh, I just hope people read it.
to respond, the clients router is cayman, probably given from SBC or whoever they had in the past.
Also, that would explain why DNS only works some of the time. They probally have a failover link, and its getting hammered.
@Josh
Router wont matter if what SBC told you is true. Its a problem at the physical layer, not Application layer
Red’s even more stupid than the rest.
I already have posted the answer. IT’S NOT DREAMHOST. Contact your ISPs if you have problem reaching sites that are up for the rest of the world. This is not an ISP complaint form.
Several others have posted useful info as well, but the retards are too busy crying to do anything else.
If you’re having a DIFFERENT problem, then try contacting support instead of crying like a little girl. That’s what they’re there for.
If that doesn’t work, try crying on your mommy’s shoulder. That will get you as far as crying here did. Boo hoo.
WAAAAAAAMBULANCE
how about listening to your mommy
if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything at all
The J, maybe your mommy should have told you to not say anything at all until you stop popping stupid pills.
that is mature WAAAAAAAMBULANCE
all this must be bugging you sooo much
you just HAVE to keep reading this thread, and commenting on how everyone is inferrior to you
you must have such an exciting existance that you come here to shit all over everyone
I’d like to point out that the “panel is down” issue constantly crops up in comments here, and it is almost never true. Most of the time, there is a downstream problem at someone’s ISP (or that ISP’s ISP).
I suggest that you consider using a service like host-tracker.com to determine whether or not your site is truly down. This will also give you response times, so that when you think your site is “slow” you can see exactly how “slow” it is.
One more thing - many people seem to think that every single issue that DH has with any server should be posted here - that’s not what this page is for. If you suspect that your server is having problems, the first place to go is to the Contact Support page on the panel. By making an inquiry there you add to DH’s knowledge of system problems.
what is one to do if you can’t reach the contact support page to make an inquiry?
Whoa. Brasscrest’s post is intelligent, shows common sense and is right on the money. It also didn’t contain any whining or complaining that has nothing to do with this post. Hmm… clearly a “fanboy” or employee sent here on a cover-up mission!
“what is one to do if you can’t reach the contact support page to make an inquiry?”
http://dreamhost.com/contact.cgi - it has always been there.
Dreamhost has problems? Hmm been a customer for quite a long time and ive never had any problems ![]()
Thanks a ton for getting it back !!! Really appreciated.
ok, dreamhost is starting to piss me off. my site is displaying
Site Temporarily Unavailable
We apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact the webmaster/ tech support immediately to have them rectify this.
error id: “bad_httpd_conf”
But the HTTP response code is 200. So none of my monitoring tools told me the site is down! This is a major fup.
problem!!!!!!!! it says “We apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact the webmaster/ tech support immediately to have them rectify this.
error id: “bad_httpd_conf”
Are you two even being serious?
Not only does that have nothing to do with this post, BUT it has already been addressed here anyway, because someone else was dumb enough to bring it up.
So, here are 3 things you didn’t read:
1. The original post.
2. All replies.
3. “Comments posted here may not be viewed by DreamHost staff at all. This is not a way to contact DreamHost.”
Scroll up. Read.
look either be of use to your customers or don’t post and DON’T tell people to read, address the question.
I looked through the thread, there’s 80 responses, I have work to do…
Dreamhost miffed here, sorry to burst your bubble.
1) They moved http service, change IP, without giving alloted amount of time for DNS caches to be flushed.
2) The old servers are mis-configured so they response with 200 http headers when they should be giving ERROR codes. So monitoring tools can’t do their job.
= Major fup
Meanwhile waaaaaambulance is just wasting people’s time. If you’re a dreamhost employee then help the situation otherwise go do something useful. If this blog doesn’t matter then why are you posting on it? I obviously have a problem, need to vent it, and support is giving me weak responses right now.

You are preaching to the choir or yelling at the deaf. There’s no hope to persuade the latter that DreamHost won’t respond to their problems here, ever.
And a reminder, about your ISP:

You’re not my customer. You would have known that if you weren’t stupid.
“This is not a way to contact DreamHost.” > I looked through the thread, there’s 80 responses, I have work to do…
So, not only are you stupid, but you’re lazy. Great combo. If you have work to do, then you shouldn’t be wasting time here whining like a baby.
—
>> Dreamhost miffed here, sorry to burst your bubble.
Then contact support, instead of crying. What part of that is making your little brain hurt. Your problem has nothing to do with this post.

I pointed you directly to the answer to your question, idiot. You are the one wasting peoples time by being too stupid to read and just blurting out random crap.
—
>> If you’re a dreamhost employee then help the situation otherwise go do something useful.
If you’re stupid enough to think I’m an employee, that explains why you were too stupid to contact support.
—
>> If this blog doesn’t matter then why are you posting on it?
Because the blog does matter. If you want to be stupid here, get used to being called stupid.
—

No kidding. It’s called illiteracy. Learn how to read.
—
>> need to vent it,
Then go cry on your mommy’s shoulder.

Boo hoo.
@THE WAAAAAAAMBULANCE: You make good points, but you’ve got to restrain yourself, because it doesn’t help your cause to insult people.
They are just upset and venting, that’s all.
Yes, I agree they have to follow the rules to get support for their problems, but you have to say it in a less infuriating way.
Peace,
Gene
>> They are just upset and venting, that’s all.
If that’s an acceptable excuse, then I’ll go ahead and use it too.
I laugh when I type this stuff, because I know it makes the little whiners cry even more. Tolerating or rewarding that BS just encourages people to stay stupid.
Everything they have typed is the direct result of being too stupid & lazy to read before posting.
There is never anything in these comments except for idiots whining about nothing and others giving them a hard time for it. If my posts were diluting anything relevant or of use, I’d feel differently.
Solution: Let the whiners go start their own cry baby forums on their own domains. Then, if they don’t like people pointing out that every single thing they say is stupid, they can go ahead and censor it.

Hopefully the quote above will format correctly
In any case, I still think you’re going overboard. Someone saying their site isn’t working isn’t stupid. Now it may well be that some of those issues are ISP-related rather than DreamHost, but that doesn’t make it any less real.
OK?
Peace,
Gene
> Someone saying their site isn’t working isn’t stupid.
Normally, no. But when they say it in a post where it is totally irrelevant, then continue to go on about it even after being corrected and told what to do, then yes, that would be stupid.
When it happens with every single post, it’s stupid.
And those two idiots with the bad_httpd_conf crap, in an irrelevant post, even after it had been brought up by some other off-topic whiner (and even answered by me), are beyond stupid and treading into brain-dead territory. Almost as smart as the geniuses that kept insisting that dreamhost.com was down because they can’t see it, even though others can.
This page is full of people bashing Dreamhost because SBC has problems… all in a post that’s about a RESOLVED hardware issue on a single server, out of 1300+. If that’s not stupid, what is?
Think of it this way: You can’t stop a burglar (idiot poster) by locking your doors (calling them stupid), but people still lock their doors (tell stupid people they’re stupid) because the inability to stop them isn’t a reason to make things easier for them.
@THE WAAAAAAAMBULANCE: [mute]
@DH: Your support responses still vague. I know my old (wrong) IP was cached in DNS for some unknown period of time in unknown places. It was not just my DNS, there were several reports I have from other locations/DNS.
When a service is disrupted for several hours I expect specifics, not vagueness. I want to know:
1) when the change took place
2) a link to the announcement and updates
3) what was the emergency
4) what i can do to rectify it if anything
To top it off, the 200 http response code coming from a broken config is not good. That was completely glossed over each response. Please address your customer’s requests, even if it’s “we will get back to you soon.”
So overall DH went to an 8 on my scale, but definitely a 1 today. I expected a little more willingness to provide information during mishaps.
@everyone : try to ignore that asshat WAAAAAAAMBULANCE - perhaps he’ll go away and act the troll somewhere else.. anyone who hangs out in a webhost status blog 24/7 throwing abuse at everyone who posts a comment has got to be one MAJOR loser.
Milan, click mute all you want, but you’re still an imbecile.
Angry Dog: I tried ignoring you illiterate retards, but you didn’t go away, so I doubt it will work on me.
Keep crying though. I’m sure it will get you far in life.
Maybe if you tell your mommy that people are being mean to you just because you’re stupid, she’ll let you cry on her shoulder.
my websites are all working okay…… panel is accessible for me, but ftp is quite slow at a fluctuating speed of between 5-15kbps instead of the usual constant above 30kbps
Ouch, an idiot just called me an idiot with his user name. That almost hurts enough to make me cry… but my crying would just be drowned out by all of the other non-stop crying here, so I’ll just hold it in.
LOL that’s the best you can do? Pathetic. Do us all a favor - power off your PC and stick to what you do best - masturbation.
WOOF
Why can’t Waambulance (and his IP) be banned from commenting?
@THE WAAAAAAAMBULANCE
Here’s a simple question (no fucking around or whining)
Why do you hang out in these comment sections 24/7? as opposed to just reading the announcement and not venturing into the comment section. Lets have an honest answer.
Want to complain about a troll in these comment sections?
There’s a complaint section under the control panels support section, copy the links to the comments in question by right clicking on the date/time of the comment and selecting copy link then paste them into your complaint ticket.
I’d advise people here to not argue back with the trolls and allow them to generate pages and pages of tripe, but to gather the comment links and raise a complaint ticket to DH.
Why can’t Waambulance (and his IP) be banned from commenting?
Because if someone didn’t flambaste these people for crying about non-issues or issues that aren’t worth crying about in a thread that’s *openly* advertised as one that won’t actually get the problem fixed, no one’d read the status site. And that’s ignoring those who decide to wine about, say, the panel being down (it’s usually not, btw) in the comments about a server move that’s *maybe* only effecting 0.3% of the users who’re complaining, and *not* effecting their panel access. Besides, it’s amusing.
Actually, I suppose it is a *good* thing that most of these comments, irrelevant to the blog post as they are, are polluting *this* blog - otherwise, it would considerably increase the noise to signal ratio on the DH Discussion Forums - then the forums would be as irritating to read as the comment section here.
what’s the point of wasting vulgarities on him? it’s obvious he’s failing at being a critic so now he’s just generating some conflicting emotions which he can’t handle so he has to masturbate in order to calm down?
@WAAAAAAAMBULANCE
As a potential DH customer I’m a bit bewildered that DH allow you free reign in these comment sections. I’ve been back through some of the earlier announcements and it seems you trample over almost all of them. You certainly appear to have generated more irrelevant output than the people you toss insults at.
@Van
Agreed, DH should nip this in the bud as it looks bad for them. They should also make this comment section members only so that people are accountable for their comments and they don’t end up with outsiders spamming other hosting providers.
>> “Want to complain about a troll in these comment sections?”
You honestly believe that all of you off-topic whining idiots aren’t trolls?
There could be a post here about one server getting ram, followed by 50 comments claiming Dreamhost sucks because of something that has nothing to do with anything. THAT’s trolling.
If DH wanted to get rid of troll comments, they would have to disable comments (as they should), because everything you idiots type here is pure stupidity. There is never anything relevant that has to do with anything posted by DH.
Then, when you do get short/quick/polite/generic replies, a quick WHOIS check will show that it’s often just a bot comment-spamming a domain that isn’t even hosted here.
Life’s hard, especially when you’re stupid. So if you want to be stupid here, expect a hard time. Boo hoo.
>> “LOL that’s the best you can do? Pathetic.”
You’re right. I just just write “WOOF” every third post to prove that I’m as smart as you. That would be constructive and so un-troll-like.
>> Why do you hang out in these comment sections 24/7?
You could have answered that yourself. Did you really think they were only accessible to whiners that wanted to blame their misery on Dreamhost.
If you don’t like being called stupid, when you ARE being stupid, then start your own forums on your own domains, where you can run your own moderated tear-fests. Simple.
Bring that crap to a public place where anyone can post and you aren’t going to walk into a group-hug situation.
>> what’s the point of wasting vulgarities on him? it’s obvious he’s failing at being a critic so now he’s just generating some conflicting emotions which he can’t handle so he has to masturbate in order to calm down?
See? This is another example of what makes you a clueless jackass. You have a problem anyone that isn’t nice and wants to give you a hug, but you can’t even make it a sentence further without acting the same way yourself.
Yeah, that’s MUCH better than anything I post here. Idiot.
THE WAAAAAAAMBULANCE said…”Then, when you do get short/quick/polite/generic replies, a quick WHOIS check will show that it’s often just a bot comment-spamming a domain that isn’t even hosted here.”
Here’s a question for you. Unless you work for DH how do you get the ip address from the replies here to do a WHOIS?
Also lets have some examples of the comments here that are bots
@Mr W
Yeah - I see what you mean. Can’t see any in this topic though, in fact very few of us here have a url at all.
WAAAAAAAMBULANCE get a life - listen to yourself and the extremes you’re going to in order to prove what - nothing much other than you’re a loser.
SSH responding too slow…..
Yang, run uptime, make sure the x.xx numbers are low.
cappuccino has been down for a good 15 minutes now… :’(
knight, did you report it to support?
I use http://www.montastic.com to monitor 2 sites that have with dreamhost and i get 1 o 2 time a day emails informing about Website status: unreachable.
This is unacceptable, my next step is go to http://www.bluehost.com open an affiliate acount and then buy one year and get $65 back from my affiliate. (myself)
Bye bye dreamhost…
is this still going on? cause my website has been out for about 15-20 minutes so far
@ Victor: If you’re leaving that’s your choice, but steer away from BlueHost (aka HostMonster), they make DreamHost look like perfection in comparison.
@ WAAAAAAATF: ..ah never mind, you’re not worth the effort.
I’m on martinellis and my site has been unreachable for several hours now. This is the 3rd time this week. I did a trace route and the pings are fine until it reaches the martinellis sever with a ping over 500ms.
Bob, try ssh’ing in and running “uptime” see what the x.xx numbers are. Either it is network, which is unlikely since it wouldnt just be your server, or that x.xx number is high and you have someone else on the server killing your cpu load, and report it to DH as such.
Curious, have you reported all these problems to DreamHost? And what did they tell you?
And if not, why not?
By the way, Bluehost is no bargain. They are more apt to terminate or suspend sites for excessive CPU usage, for example.
Peace,
Gene
Luckily, my sites are working fine ![]()
It must be great to not have any problems with your web site’s speed or reliability. But coming on here and having a go at everyone who has a web site that is down or slow is not productive. I’ve been with Dreamhost for about 6 weeks now, and my sites have been down or slow for upgrades or dos attacks on a regular basis.
Are Dreamhost the only web hosting company that still gets dos attacks?
Web site visitors don’t like slow or non existant sites, and neither do search engine spiders. I feel sorry for the people with adwords accounts paying for clicks only for their visitors never to reach their site because the page takes 5 minutes to download.
My sites and FTP, etc. are running fine (knock on wood) but the panel is reallllllly slow (5-10mins per page load, or a 404) for me at the moment as well (for those who asked).
I also really seem to like parentheses today
Ok, I haven’t received a response from support(submitted it yesterday) asking if there was something wrong with my site or if there is a domain hogging resources. I could connect after a couple of hours yesterday. Today, it is unreachable again, same problem with the huge ping. I typed the ip address of the server in my browser and got an error message: error id: “bad_httpd_conf”. Since I’m not getting any help from support, I will try to fix this with the dreamhost wiki on the error. It has some suggestions.
Yep, the wiki suggestion fixed the problem. If it continues I will contact support again. If any of you are getting unreachable sites, you might want to check out “bad_httpd_conf” in the dreamhost wiki.
Panel is working alright for me now, and support says by the time they checked my request they couldn’t find any problems, for anyone who is still having troubles.
Also if you’re having trouble getting at your sites post a url and other people in the comments can check and see if the problem is just a connection somewhere between you and the site, rather than a server-side problem.

Is this why panel.dreamhost.com and the pop server are down?
