hardware failure on van

UPDATE: Everything has been resolved. The machine is now fully functional. We apologize for any inconvenience the downtime may have caused.

My site’s working but FTP is not.
FTP wasn’t working for about 30 minutes, but sites were still up.
Now all has died. I am getting Internal Server Errors on all my sites.
I’m not on van, but having 500 internal errors.
*sigh*
Bad timing.
But I suppose there’s never a “good” time to have my site go down.

All my sites are down and I’m on holt.
Supposedly another customer had over used resources… but whatever happened. All the files for all my websites have disappeared. The folders have slowly been rebuilding (I can see in shell) but no files in them. Plus I’m getting invalid http.config errors on all domains.
I’d sigh… but its been a long few hours.
Up and down, up and down…that’s what mine’s been doing. It was UP again just 5 minutes ago, and halfway through submitting a product, it’s down again. sigh. I don’t think everything is resolved quite yet.

Dreamhost Web Panel - Support NOT Working!
WEDNESDAY, MAY 9, 2007 (Approx 12 noon EST)
Dreamhost is NOT receiving my support emails… I tried to send them through Dreamhost’s Web Panel - Support - Contact Support… the first and second requests got stuck on:
“Submitting your ticket.
Please wait while we submit your ticket to our technical support department”
These support tickets get stuck there indefinitely … and nothing appears to have gone through when I check the Support History. No kidding, I left my desk to get coffee and came back… nothing! Still stuck!
Tried to email Support@dreamhost.com but received an automated reply that my email was not recognized because it could not tie the message into an existing issue with the system… Dreamhost states to use the Web Panel’s Support Tickets, “All messages submitted through that form are guaranteed to be received!”
How else can we contact Support?

Do what i did, switched hosts. It’s nice now, my sites are up every day, all day, no more daily outages and actually have support that answers.

My sites are almost always up, on DreamHost. Last time I had a problem, it was my fault, using a WordPress plug-in that conflicted with another.
And, yes, support does answer here. Why not produce a Host-Tracker report for your new host in a few months and so how good it really is.

Small world… I had no idea that the creator of the world’s greatest Wordpress plugin hosted here.
That’s the one plugin that whenever I install it, I think, “Why the hell isn’t this built-in?”

I have just moved off Dreamhost. (shame because I really tried, even asked if I could be moved to another server/ pay more.. whatever it took). Kept being reassured that it would get better; It has not and the amount of times I have tried to ftp/edit my site.
Been here six months, and it has been no end of interuptions of service. Customer service is responsive and I did like it here (except for the continual down time)
This is 2007 (not 1990), and these endless interuptions are not good enough - my customers have complained.
I have logged a service ticket (5 hrs ago) about the latest and still have not heard back.
I wish I could stay but I cannot keep stress about having a site up.
Nothing personal … just need to have my site working.

SLOW,VERY SLOW.
Unfortunatly, there are no host providers
offer the features of dreamhost (compiling your own php,
run shell script, have ssh access, wanna talk about the
auto-backup feature they offer).
Dreamhost has been down a few time, thats true,
but my host-tracker tell me that

They are a large host.Expect to have problems.
If you want better hosting go for a Dedicated server

My websites, the ftp account and SSH account are “403 Forbidden”.

I’ll take a wild guess and say your account has been disabled.
Two reasons I can think of would be either non-payment or a TOS violation. You’ll need to contact them to find out.

My mysql isn’t working. My site works but it says there is a database problem when I go to load my wordpress and nothing has been changed in the config file.

I have been with DH for 18 months - Reason: I made a grave error in signing up to their two year package. The level OS support I received from them was second to none - Or should that be I received NONE. I used to submit ticket after ticket after ticket. Responses would take 2-4 days and would answer something that had NOTHING to do with the ticket. They cost me valuable business, time and money with their effortless laid back approach to support. So why am I still with them? I’m not - the account still exists because despite me being able to prove with numerous emails that they lie cheat and steal, there answer - Or more specifically Jeffs answer was - stop complaining because otherwise I will implement the 30 day termination notice and close your account.
They are great if you have no need to send in a support ticket. They are great if you don’t have the need to ever query your billing. They are great if you don’t require explanations why the service is such that uptimes for my websites averaged 85%.
Lets face it - at some stage we are all going to need to query at least one of these - and they don’t like complaints. Would I recommend them - Of course I would if you enjoy being abused, have money taken out of your bank account/off your credit card, and have a level of support you could expect from a giraffe.
Otherwise I would avoid them like the bubonic plague!
Do yourself a favor - pay the slight increase in cost and get a reliable and professional web host!
DreamHost has the best deal around, financially. A few bucks a month and they promise you tons of space and bandwidth touting that they increase every week. Thats well and good, but if your site pukes every so often then that stuff tends not to matter any more.
They play the honesty game in hopes that that approach will restore their integrity. It does to many customers, but I got slowly tired of having to zip off support requests because my sites were down. No refunds were ever offered and apologies were made. I have had to contact them no less than 3 times in one week due to my sites not loading. It is directly attributed to the hosting service. I could ping sites, but they wouldn’t load. I could ping and load many other sites including google, yahoo and others without a problem. Very frustrating to deal with these outages. Some lasted an hour and some lasted seconds after sending a support request.
Stuck with them this long hoping they fix things, but I have teetered over the edge and will be moving when my account is up for renewal.
Dreamhost continues to struggle to keep their mailservers serving. I get timeouts weekly (mostly on Mondays). I also have friends calling telling me emails are getting kicked back to them.
Tickets are promptly replied to, but in the most unhelpful manner. Their idea of being ‘up’ is sending a test email to me (hours after my complaint) and then saying all is well. What is frustrating is that you know, unless they simply are not watching, is that they had a mail server maxed out during that time and they don’t admit it. All I ever get is ‘the problem could be anywhere.’ Sorry the problem happens too often.
I have worked computer ops and the best shops online shops know to listen and investigate user experiences until they are understood. My year with dreamhost has revealed either they don’t care or don’t have the skills to improve their service. Their website has started to feature what they claim to be employees traveling the world and partying. Any connection?
I am another sucker that paid for 2 years. I am willing to eat the last year of fees for get better service from elsewhere. Dreamhost looks great on the surface, tons of features, great price, but I wonder if they are doing too much. They also have been often listed on spammer lists, therefore turning my emails into junk classification.

Sites like that would mean more if affiliate links didn’t exist. Then again, if affiliate links didn’t exist, neither would those sites.
At a quick glance, their best hosts list seems to list quite a few with high affiliate payouts.
I don’t mention other hosts on DH’s sites, but I searched for one there that has an excellent reputation, has their own data center, etc… BUT, no affiliate program. Surprise: No reviews. And their name is all over hosting forums like WHT, so it’s not like they’re unheard of.
I’d love to see someone set up a host, offer crap service & $300 affiliate program… just to see if it ever makes it to a ‘worst hosts’ list. That would be an interesting experiment. ![]()

At Hayley: No. It’s waiting for you to file a support ticket. Or at least, it’s waiting for you to realize it would have taken you half as long to figure out this is a post about a web server hardware problem, and databases weren’t even mentioned here. I could be wrong, but that just might be it.
panel.dreamhost.com is unresponsive. I have issues with one of my domains but I am unable to open up a ticket!!!!!!

I have register to DH a year ago, but haven’t made any payment yet because my lack oh knowledge about dreamhosting. In the other hand, rumour has it that’s hosting in DH is such a nightmare.
Now I cant get my account deleted, and it’s bothering me. How can I get my account deleted?
