Support Contact Form Error

Posted (May 12th, 2007 at 3:36 pm PST) by mir

We are currently experiencing an issue with one of our internal databases which is causing issues with the support contact page on our web panel. Due to the nature of the database service in question we can’t just kill it off and restart it so we have our database expert working on it and will have it back up as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience in the meantime and will update this post as soon as it is back up or we have more detailed information.

Actually already had an update while writing this post - the service is being restored now and should be fully operational within the next 45 minutes at most (it varies greatly and may be back within a few minutes as well so we’re giving the most conservative estimate).

DB was borked. Isn’t there a scheduled maintenance soon?

The DB maintenance already happened on the 9th ;)

Well, these things happen, But Dh has handled them the best way they could. I still thing we should get to choose between the Old and the new contact form.

I’m just glad they do all this maintenance EEEEEAAAAAAARRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYY in the morning. Does 45 minutes of downtime really effect us at 1:00 a.m.?

It does when you’re not in the US.

But if that’s important, people could stick with hosts in their own country, or at least one that’s on a closer schedule than ours. A host can’t be expected to schedule stuff that syncs with some random country’s timezone, rather than their own.

If they’re choosing a US host because that’s where the bulk of their traffic comes from, then the US schedule is best regardless of where the client is located.

If they’re choosing a US host based on price, then that’s simply part of the deal.

I was just saying that it MIGHT not be 1 AM for everyone. As Europeans are some careful to remind us, the US is not the center of the world.

I figured most people knew that. ;-)

The US might not be the center of the world, but it is the most relevant if you’re talking about a data center that’s located there.

I’m just saying that if there’s concern about the schedule (for anyone–not just targeting you), then there are ways around it. Or, if most of the site’s traffic is US-based, then the time shouldn’t really matter to the customer, regardless of where they are.

A long downtime, even at the most convenient California hours, can run into business hours for the east coast of the US, so it’s not always 100% perfect for US residents either.

The support tab/system/database is down again. It keeps bonking when I try to file a support question.

It seems to still be down. I have tried repeatedly to respond to an email thread regarding a customer support issue. I keep getting an automated response with a new support ticket number. It’s now been a day and a half and I’ve had no response to my emails. I’m guessing that they’ve been eaten… any suggestions for what I should do now?

Still having some problems, it has been persistent for a while.
