Spunky Downtime
Posted (May 18th, 2007 at 8:48 am PST) by briansWe are experiencing problems with one of our network filerservers. This is causing inflated loads on machines in the spunky cluster. As a result, you may experience connection issues when attempting to access your site, email, etc. Our Admins are diligently working towards resolving this matter. Below is a list of the affected machines. Please check back here for future updates.

Update! The above list of servers are the ones which actually had mounts on the file server in question. It seems we experienced some file system corruption on one of the volumes this file server mounted. Our attempts to repair the damage were not fruitful, so we have restored your home directories from backup. This required many reboots of various web servers and the file server itself. We apologize for the downtime this caused.
The data restore affects exactly 45 users data, outside of any downtime, so this most likely does not apply to you.
We have upgraded the file server head unit to the latest version of its operating system, so hopefully this will not be an issue in the future.

This says resolved, but I still have the issue. I have a support request submitted. Anyone else still having issues even though this is marked as resolved?

All my DH accounts are havign trouble with outgoing mail, and they’re on Spunky, Looney, and Randy.
Ditto me–randy mail not going out.

It sucks that the RSS feed for dreamhoststatus.com doesn’t update as quickly as the site itself. Or is that a problem with bloglines? I didn’t know why my email wasn’t going out until I actually clicked through the the site & see that this alert went up 10 minutes ago…
Flanders mail isn’t going out either.

Always seems like email has issues on Friday for one reason or another… Strange. At least they’ve gotten quicker at posting status messages on the status pages.
Whenever my users ask what’s wrong with the email on Fridays, I just say “It’s Friday, we always have issues with DreamHost on Fridays!”.
Of course they don’t like that answer much…
Outgoing mail isn’t very outgoing anywhere at the moment.
mail on Murdock isn’t going out either
Our mail server is Frisky and we can’t send emails either.
If you have not already done so, add spacey to the list too.
’spacey’ has problems too. (I’ve only noticed outgoing mail right now)
i casn’t send e-mails from my site—hope this is resolved fast because i have some important stuff to send! (just like everyone else, i’m sure!)

How do you tell what mail servers you’re on?
yeah, we’re Randy, and our outgoing is not working, too. happy friday in dreamhost land..
just currious, I’m in California and it says I posted at 9:24am and it was 10:24 am. I didn’t realize there was someone that was an hour behind us. 
Randy is gimpy too on outgoing mail.

Arghhh. Email down in the middle of the day really puts a stop on our business. (Just venting.)
my email server is swarthy, but i can’t out any email. Anybody knows why???
topanga is affected, too. Websites come back as a “bad_httpd_conf” error message, and outgoing mail doesn’t work. Panel seems OK.
Brendan… in your Dreamhost panel click on “Account Status” on the top right side of the screen, it lists all the servers you’re on.
Yeah FRISKY is down too. At least the smtp/outgoing mail is down.
I’m on spunky… receiving mail is fine.. sending SMTP is not working…
BUT, webmail seems to be working perfectly for me… both sending and receiving…. nice alternative if you need it…

Brendan - you can check your email and web clusters by going to the DH control panel and clicking on “Account Status” in the upper-right corner of the screen. Your web server is different from your email server.
Well looks like spacey is out too. Though some messages are going through, just a high profusion of the 450 errors again.
My mailserver (Frisky) is not on the list but is having the same kind of problems. Main webserver is miata

Ironic… perhaps “Not so Spunky” would be a better name.

oh, my site is on melrose, but spunky is my e-mail. It’s become clear now. Just told my boss I could make him a gmail account so he could send his important e-mails. That didn’t go over big. He’s resorted to calling his clients. Just rambling as I eagerly await the return of or email. Just when it seemed like things were working nicely round here.

Can someone from DH please update on what’s going on and when we can expect a resolution? This is getting to be pretty annoying in the middle of the workday and all…

I’ve already opened a new account with another provider.
My site is working perfectly. Please take spunky out to the north 40 and shoot it. (Okay, Sitemeter seems to have misplaced about 100 people but, heck…)
My email went out (finally) about 5 minutes ago. I’m on spunky.
Never mind. I just had another one fail to go out…
Ok,
So now things get really interesting. Just had a 5 min window where everything worked. A profusion of e-mails then agian, outbox’s filling up and 450 error messages.
What are these guys doing out there???

So much for 99% uptime. I put a PNG picture in my web space and the whole system goes down.

It looks like the panel is down too. I’m also having trouble with a database. I can’t log into a wiki.
The status says resolved.. but it doesn’t seem to be so in actuality…
I am still getting the same error message I was getting when I reported this hours ago.
This is NOT resolved. I am still receiving the message:

error id: “bad_httpd_conf”
When trying to access my sites. My web server is GRAPPA.
my sites on OLIVE are still all down, also.
I’m still receiving an error message like the one stated above, on server http://files.remino.net/.
My files are on Topanga.
I’m still getting the “bad_httpd_conf” error message. Web server is goober.
All my domains are still getting “bad_htppd_conf” error. I’m on grappa.
One tech got back to me (very quickly!) and said that apache needed to be restarted. However, that only cleared up a couple of my numerous domains, most of which are still having problems. )-8

Wow. This is the first time in almost a year that the server I’m on has shown up in a post as having any sort of problems. Not bad. And here it is already fixed by the time I see the post.

SERIOUSLY Laura Q! The issue certainly isn’t resolved.
Ironically, I just got an email response to the the support question I submitted regarding this issue and it said that the problem has been resolved.

Sean - your site is working currently. Maybe it’s possible you were one of the 45 users it affected?
Or more likely some other issue that isn’t listed here.
