We switched our web hosting to Dreamhost, expecting much more than we are receiving. The reliability of the web site appears to be good, but the Email service is bordering on attrocious. Considering the STMP server issues were presumably resolved over a week ago, why do we continue to have to suffer??

I requested an account test three times in the last several weeks, yet the message continues to come back that my account has not been tested the last month! What gives?

Is there a backlog of e-mail that’s still causing a slowdown?
What was support's answer to that question, when you submitted a support ticket through the panel?

Is there a backlog of e-mail that's still causing a slowdown? I'm getting e-mail after a 90-120 minute delay (they've been sitting on dreamhost servers after looking at the mail headers).

I think part of the issue is that some people have got dedicated servers with DH and often they too are affected.

In any case, for a variety of reasons I'm moving hosts soon, to a VPS. Whilst obviously not as upmarket as a dedicated server, it should suffice for my needs.

DH have had their good times and their bad times, the newsletter's are almost always interesting to read, and I will stress that they *have* offered to shift my site onto another server with more proven reliability, so it's not purely for the unreliability issues that I'm moving.

Just hope things improve for the rest of you :)

Also, to the "My clients this, my clients that, blah blah blah" crowd:

Just tell your clients that all of them combined aren't worth more than $9.95/month to you. I'm sure they'll thank you for your honesty and continue dealing with you.

Some of you need to learn how to do a tracert. Many complain about sites that aren't down.

Anyone have expirience with Site5?

Site5 is easily the worst host I ever dealt with. If they were a registrar, they'd be Registerfly.

They were one of the highest rated when I signed up... 11 months later was another story.

DreamHost sucks.

That’s why they rented someone’s server for this site.

That's easily the stupidest thing posted on this entire page. Any host that DOESN'T do that sucks.

You aren't smart enough to figure out why, so I'll explain it. EVERY SINGLE HOST has problem and they know it, so the smart ones (DH) have an off-network site that won't be affected.

I guess you're idea of a good host is one that is totally unreachable, even over a minor network problem? Smart.

Also, to anyone whining about losing money: You're not, at least not because of DH. If you can't afford a dedicated server, or at least another plan & failover DNS, then your site isn't as important as you pretend is.

Here, do this: Next time your site is down, see if Google is down. What? It's not??? You mean Google isn't running on a $9.95 shared hosting account? Who would have thought...

Now, figure out how important your site is compared to Google, look at your bank account, then pick a system somewhere between $9.95 and $Google and quit being a cheap whiner.

If you can't afford a few data centers, get two dedicated servers (different data centers) that mirror each other. Can't afford that? Get two shared accounts & do the same thing. Can't afford that? Sorry, but your site isn't important.
