Panel database maintenance, Wednesday night
Posted (May 22nd, 2007 at 2:46 pm PST) by mikehAt Wed May 23 22:00:00 PDT 2007 we will be taking the DreamHost webpanel offline for some maintenance. The downtime window extends for one hour, til 23:00:00 PDT. Expected downtime within this window is 30 minutes.

Thanks for letting us know. And Craig, give them a break! They’re doing the maintenance at midnight, it’s not like your going to be going through the panel at midnight. 30 minutes is not long. And no Website downtime. PLUS: If a good web host doesn’t need maintenance, I have NEVER seen a good host in my 8 years of web experience and 14 different hosts I’ve been with and reviewed.

There are those of us who aren’t on the west coast of the US so midnight there could well be the normal working day for the rest of us. Although, I suspect that Craig’s initial comments were supposed to be humourous as denoted by the smiley tacked on the end. :p
I’ll tell you what Craig, why don’t you believe that and buy yourself a Honda. You can weld the hood shut because you never have to worry about maintenance.
My dream is, to see one of these posts go up without any stupid comments.
Besides, Craig, you need to do a little maintenance on your website, you have a CSS error (check the validation link on your website).
My blogsite has been down ALL day long. I’m tired of DreamHost.

They have. They post 2-3 messages a day so you can complain about your site being down every 8 hours or so.
Funny how you *NEVER* mention that your site is back up.
My site was down for just 30 minutes. At least you guys let us know about that before the problem occurred so I guess it’s cool

And What does this prove? They are checking 4 sites in all of dreamhost sites, I can’t even find out wich sites they’re monitoring! Acording with the report site 702 was down alot no May 22, and this tells me… nothing realy…
So we have site 35, 36 667 and 702… telling us nothing, I prefer to trust this status blog. At least dreamhost comes out and admits they are down and why.
Even so, 99.294% is preaty darn good!

Well that’s a pretty good uptime if you ask me. All websites go down here and there it’s just the way things are. Sometimes nobody even notices until someone says something. Google is one of those that go down all the time and they do their own web hosting. So I would have to say Dreamhost is one of the best host because of the quality that I have received from them along with the features. Plus they are straight forward and don’t try to hide anything from their customers.

I use Dreamhost for my downloads and testing. As it can take a heavy load without problems and that’s why I like them. Which is something you may not find even when paying around $300 for a dedicated server.

If they say ONLY web panel downtime, that means web panel! NOT YOUR SITE. Go complain using the support feature

The panel will be down but how many people use the panel 24/7 I hope not many if so there is a problem with the way they do things.
I am glad they are doing maintenance shows they like to keep things up to standards and do things to keep things at such high quality.
You people crack me up. I read this forum almost every day, sometimes because I have a problem, sometimes because I want to check for planned maintenance and such. And every single thread I see “MY SITES DOWN MY SITES DOWN”. Today, my site was down. I panicked because this is my 2nd highest traffic day of the week (we average 80,000 hits a day) so that’s not cool. I didn’t cry here. I turned in a support ticket like you’re SUPPOSED TO DO and it was fixed in about 15 minutes with a very nice email and explanation from Customer Support. No muss, no fuss.
Would I prefer the site wasn’t down. Of course. But ya know..it happens. So whatever. Do what they tell you and you’ll probably find yours fixed. And quit whining about your site being down on a thread that says “WEBPANEL maintenance”. It’s two different things you shmucks.

What was the problem and how did they fix it?
Honestly Van I don’t know. I’m not a web guru by any means and don’t understand half of what people tell me about web site statistics, let alone the mechanics of it. Which is why I’m always so amazed at the people here. I know NOTHING and yet I can figure out how to send in a support ticket.
Basically in a nutshell, the site was down and showing an “index” page (the one that just lists the files in the directory) instead of the actual site. I believe he said they reloaded a snapshot of the site or something. It was literally 15 minutes from time of report until the site was fully functional again.
If your site is going slow, offline or you just someone to talk too you can contact Dreamhost Support that’s why they are there to support you.
Don’t find half of the greatness at Dreamhost from other hosts.

I repeat: DreamHost is cheaper than everyting but now is one of the most powerful webhosting. If you manage to host a service like “HotMail” or “Google” it’s another point of view 
Some times in the office everyone screams: Whats happening with this mail???? And I say : Dreamhost is improving their service is cheap and reliable. Btw, the mail service was down about 20 mins. (PDT + 2 Hours)
My site is down along side the panel…at least my main one. The one that usually gets all my traffic…wonderful. Will wait an hour and hope for the best, at least I will be able to report it once the panel is back up.
