Spacey filer issues
Posted (May 26th, 2007 at 4:09 pm PST) by kitchenOne of our network fileservers on the spacey cluster is having some problems and causing issues with many servers on the spacey cluster. Our admins are looking into the problem and will have an update shortly!

Update 18:24PST: Looks like one of the disk shelves blew a fiber channel controller. We’ve replaced the controller and are making sure it’s happy before we put it back into production. Update soon.

Does the spacy cluster involve the machine snapple? Just recently started to get internal 500 errors on our php enabled sites
Thanks for the update. Is there a public list of the DH clusters and which machines are on them?
500 internal server error here too but im on “punch”
Would this contribute to a high CPU load? My server has had around 80% CPU load.
My site seems to be working better than ever right now. I don’t know why it would be doing that but it is.
Aren: snapple being a drink I would think it is on the spacey cluster. Just check your “Account Status” in the panel and see what the mail server says. That’s your cluster.
My pages are down due to this. We just had files issues on spacey YESTERDAY!
First - from what I’ve gathered, the Spacey cluster involves most of the drink-named servers.
Examples being barqs, welchs, dads, aquafina, etc. I imagine snapple and punch are likewise part of that cluster too then.
And yes, it will indeed inflate server loads by a good amount.
My site still loads quite fast though… hopefully it stays like that! 
Perhaps I’m dumb, but I don’t understand how I can have 4 sites on the same server, and have one up (and quite fast) but the other 3 dead? That makes no sense.

Sleepy: is the website that is fast a static site? or a php site? I’m only getting the errors on my php sites, and not my regular static/flash based sites(that load really fast)

My site loaded 2 mins ago and after that nothing happens - it’s dead. Kindly fix the issue fast…
Spacey has had problems for months…why it is even still in the system is beyond me. Spend some money already.
How do I tell if Im on spacey
I just had this 500 internal server error yesterday too. Spacey blows.
kt: go to your panel and in the upper right corner is “account status”. Click that, and the drop down will tell you.
in a month, 4-6 probs with spacey, j’en ai marre :((
My Web Server is not spacey thus I’m getting this error. But my Webmail server IS Spacey so that might be corrupting the WebServer I’m guessing…

hmm my web server is monster but my email server is spacey. does this mean my site is down for another reason?
@DCR - there is no *server* named Spacey at DH (as far as I’m aware anyways). The *cluster* you’re on, denoted by the name of your mail server, should be spacey.
My files are on smoothie and my email on spacey, but all I’m experiencing is slow loading. Which is weird because my site loads fast and my forum super slow. Whatever, keep up the work Dreamhost!

You should probably think about some new employees. If possible, someone who knows what to do should be amongst them.

There are over 1,300 servers… so not every problem has a direct connection to every single post.

@Mason, same here — can’t access panel, and my websites are down… can’t submit a trouble ticket, can’t access servers via ssh or sftp … what next?
Panel is slower than ever, can’t access my websites and those that i can are slow, my e-mail accounts don’t work. Seriously, Now I am really getting pissed off.
I’m not usally botherd by down time, but now i can see why people lose it — i’ve just got a game added to newgrounds it cost $500 as like a way to advertise my new site, now im missing all the potential hits

I think Host-Tracker is paid by Dreamhost. It first reported a downtime of 1 1/2 hours for my website and now the status pages says 12 minutes. Strange.
So glad to of just left Dreamhost. Just not worth the hassle paid for 12 months left after 10 months.
Shame as a file dump they’re great for anything needing Mysql or PHP they suck.
@DC I dissagree on that, allthough there are outages sometimes.
I think it’s great that you can just use your own compiled php so you can work with the settings that you need for your site.
I haven’t come accross any other host that can do these things for a similar price.

When you THINK the panel is down just because you can’t reach it, it doesn’t mean it’s down. That’s what traceroute is for.
Connection through SFTP don’t work on seltzer. Just simple FTP is working

tracert to apache-bongo initially times out then eventually connects but i cannot reach my sites

Dude, mizbala.com is TOTALLY down. I mean.. it took me more than .01 seconds to load, so that must instantly mean it’s down!

Anyways, I must say I’m happy I filed a ticket earlier today, as I also thought spacey was acting up. Turns out it was something *completely* unrelated (despite the load average on my server being unusually high) - it was the database service that was hung up. I was answered by support within 20 minutes. I wonder how long it would have taken them to fix it if I had posted here?
Seconds? Minutes? Days? NEVER!? *bells go off* 
No waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy! Could it be that filing a support ticket *just* to make sure it’s not something posted on the status page, would actually get my site up and running quicker than posted here, on this lovely status blog, that clearly indicates I *should* be contacting support about it instead of asking for support here? IMPOSSIBLER!!!

Mizbala.com being down just ruined my life.
There I was with a combination cure for cancer and the common cold but with mizbala.com down I was unable to upload it before I forgot.
My life sucks. It’ll be so much better when the site’s moved over to godaddy or bluehost.
My fetch server appears to be downloading quite slowly. It may be me, but I doubt it.
..and we’re down again for a third day (although not constantly for 3 days).. panel and email ok, ftp and websites not. Evian server, Spacey cluster..
Ran a web panel account test and it seems DH are already investigating already.
