low priority? all of my sites are on chalmers
May 29th, 2007 at 8:37 am
No, they list the “severity” as low. Which means it’s easily fixed.
Severity simply rates how bad the problem is vis-a-vis getting it fixed or impacting the rest of the environment.

My sites are still down. This is fifth time in one week - how much more are DreamHost customers expected to put up with?

Why are you complaining here?
May 29th, 2007 at 10:23 am
Because he’s an idiot. His site isn’t even down.
May 29th, 2007 at 11:34 am
Not related and not really complaining but I wish Dreamhost would kindly tell us how we’re supposed to notify them that the Panel is down when they won’t allow us to submit any support requests except …. through the Panel. It’s down now, has been for a good 10-15 minutes now, no word on the status site so I assume they haven’t noticed, and of course there’s no way for me to tell them it’s down. Fun stuff.
So yeah, they really need to setup some method for us to notify them if the Panel’s dead at least.

Send them an email to support [at] dreamhost.com
Their system recognizes your email and support will get back in touch with you.

I suggest using pigeons.
WOOF.

The panel isn’t down. That’s why it wouldn’t be mentioned anywhere.
When you THINK it’s down, it’s time to do a traceroute and see where the problem is.
When it IS down (pretty much never)–they already know, since they use it.
May 29th, 2007 at 2:02 pm
down.
May 29th, 2007 at 2:29 pm
Actually my panel is down as well. My website is still up and running, but I can’t edit it OR check my email OR log into my panel to contact someone that none of the above is working.
May 29th, 2007 at 3:11 pm
Dude, dreamhost rocks and I just came from a host that BS the heck out of you. Just deal with it. It’s shared hosting, so they have to do upgrades and weed out bad customers. You’ll be fine. Move to a dedicated server and hey, email me and I can recommend the host I was just with (Powweb) and you’ll get amazing amounts of down time :p
May 29th, 2007 at 3:25 pm
Traceroute is your friend. I just logged into the panel just fine about 2 minutes ago. Try again.

Coffee seems down. Having problems with a site (www.wolfeyes.com.au) on Coffee.
May 29th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
Up again. Ignore.
May 29th, 2007 at 11:15 pm
@Taylor
I’m not sure their stats mean much since it says right in their FAQ that they only check twice per hour.
In any case, they still list DH’s overall uptime as 99.255%, which doesn’t seem to match up with all of the people claiming 20 hours of downtime per day.
I’d probably use something like host-tracker.com if you want to have a better idea of actual uptime.

May 30th, 2007 at 3:53 am

Dreamhost is just transparant. They simply let us know what is happening.
May 30th, 2007 at 6:45 am
My Host-Tracker Stats:
Total uptime:99.65% Downtime:4 hour 52 min
About 3 hours of that was my fault as I was moving accounts round on DH and had to wait for DNS changes!
Go figure, DH have been awesome to me.
May 30th, 2007 at 7:53 am
one of my sites been down….
May 30th, 2007 at 10:24 am
Dupola, you are seriously just a link spammer, aren’t you? Every single time you post that, your site has been up. Next time you THINK it’s down, do a traceroute. Then, if you need to, contact support like you’re supposed to–instead of treating a status site like a low quality free link dump.
Well, I’m not spamming for competitors, blaming DH for everything that goes wrong in life, posting just to get a link to my sites, whining that my site is down when it isn’t, claiming to lose $10,000 per minute when there’s downtime, etc… Though I don’t seem to fit the mold, I too, am a customer.

Thanks a lot, DreamHost. What a great group.

First of all, your site is NOT down. T r a c e r o u t e .
And if you gave a crap about deaf people, you wouldn’t try using them for sympathy when whining about a blog being down–especially when it isn’t.
Or did you really think your site was more important because you have a deaf audience? Just tell your audience that all of them put together aren’t worth more than $9.95/month to you, so they’ll have to live with the occasional downtime. If you think they’re worth more than that, then get out your wallet and pay for redundancy.
Besides… it’s just another blog. There are about 500,000 other ones people can read when yours is down. The world won’t end.
Try using the contact support form in your panel, like smart people do.
May 30th, 2007 at 1:56 pm
Yup, your blog is up for me too. Maybe you shouldn’t be hosting a blog at all if you can’t do some basic troubleshooting before blaming your hosting provider…
May 30th, 2007 at 2:24 pm
Oh nos! My blog that only 2.5 people read is down! I mean, the other 2.5 people can access it but I can’t so it must be down! That’s it, DH sucks!
PS: Yes, all I host here is a blog. No, I don’t really give a crap. Yes, I’m mocking 95% of the comments on this post alone. But if you had to ask, I’m probably mocking you, too.
May 30th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
I’m not that tech savey, just an artist with a site. Haven’t been able to reach the panel in over a week. Am I doing something wrong.
May 30th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
https://panel.dreamhost.com
Is that how you’re accessing it? Any chance you somehow blocked it with a firewall or ad blocker?
The panel is basically never down unless it’s for maintenance–but when there is a problem, they already know about it because they use it to and jump right on it.
May 30th, 2007 at 4:20 pm
I think we should name Mike the DreamHostStatus God
May 30th, 2007 at 7:52 pm
okay, I can’t seem to get into my webftp or ftp anything. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it related to this change in the hardware???
May 30th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
re Jerry Hanzel
I’m not that tech savey, just an artist with a site. Haven’t been able to reach the panel in over a week. Am I doing something wrong.
Maybe, and maybe not, but the DreamHost panel has *not* been down for a week, so something is amiss. YOu might try asking for help in the Dreamhost Discussion Forum, at http://discussion.dreamhost.com.
May 30th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
Ok, Mike,
suppose i believe that you realy are a a customer,
then,
would you please tell me, why are you favoring DreamHost each and every time when every customer says his website is down…..
Mike,
from how much time you have been a customer of DH???
May 30th, 2007 at 9:43 pm
For the same reason I do. Because 9 times out of 10, I can hit a website that people insist is down, no problem. From multiple locations. Translation: people are too lazy to troubleshoot their own connection issues. I dunno about Mike, but I’m certainly not wasting my time with complaining about a nonexistent problem.
May 30th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
Because when someone says his site is down, and it’s not, it makes him look stupid. Why would I side with a stupid person?
And even if it is down, who cares? That’s part of shared hosting. Smart people already know this.
No one that whines here has a site that’s worth over $9.95/month. Crying doesn’t keep a site online. Paying for redundancy does.
Over 5 years.
May 31st, 2007 at 8:01 am
My site is up, but the hit counter is missing! Sounds petty but I really need it working.

For you information, Mike, let me tell you,
IX Webhosting is providing, 500 Gb, with 2.5Tb bw in just 95$ / year and ,
their uptime is also 99.99 percent….
Ok,
so, dont blame your luck, and donot try to give over-favored stupid DH comments !!!
June 1st, 2007 at 10:21 pm
Your time would be better spent trying to get your English up to a 3rd grade level, instead of spamming for IX.
