Power redundancy and brief panel downtime
Our previously-mentioned power infrastruture changes will begin within the next 30 minutes, at it’s previously scheduled time.
In preparation for these changes, the DreamHost Webpanel will be taken offline briefly. Expected downtime is about 10 minutes and will begin at 9:45PM.
Update Wed May 30 22:41:52 PDT 2007: Panel is good to go. Power maintenance continues.

Wow! I am SO happy with the quality of your service - when you’re down, you TELL me you’re down. i was just trying to log in and get some stuff working - and now I know why I can’t do it.
Peace,
Matthew

Very impressed with quick report. Thought would be guessing
May 30th, 2007 at 11:12 pm
Nothing says “fuck you” like taking down a server when one of your customers is in the middle of backing up a database so he can move to a new hosting company. And here I thought I had seen the end of Dreamhost’s incredible ability to make their servers go down!
May 31st, 2007 at 12:20 am
Site down
May 31st, 2007 at 12:39 am
This was reported a while back, so stop whining.
oh yeah, I see you’re leaving, thanks!
May 31st, 2007 at 1:39 am
hey Bill,
Why don’t you just GET THE FUCK OUT?
No point in whining here while you are already running off to a more worse hosting company.

My site is down, probably something with the internal rails support of the server. can anyone tell me when is that suppose to be operational again?
Many thanks

Bill - This was scheduled a while ago and although you scheduled your work to occur at the same time, I see it as YOUR problem with scheduling, not DH.
Jupiter - Thanks for letting us know that your site was down. It’s a shame that you didn’t have the decency to notify everyone that it was back up. It’s not as though reporting that your site unavailable here does anything more than make you feel better. “This is not a way to contact DreamHost” appears right at the top of the reply entry. Thus I can only assume the posting is for catharsis (look it up) or to inform your users that your site is unavailable. I guess giving your users the url to dreamhoststatus isn’t a BAD way of letting them know that you might not be available, it still might be appropriate to post when you’re back up.
Lior - No. We’re not support.
It’s not Friday yet, is it? I appear to be in a “mood”.

The server “pringle”, on the “spunky” cluster, appears to be experiencing problems, coincidentally or not with this maintenance work. The Apache error log is showing “Premature end of script headers: /dh/cgi-system/php5.cgi” for all sites that were working fine yesterday.
May 31st, 2007 at 5:36 am
I’m unable to loginto to the panel. Is it still down?
May 31st, 2007 at 6:58 am
Just to verify for anyone having problems - I’ve successfully logged into the panel with no problems whatsoever i.e. fully functional.
So for anyone that is having problems, it’s going to be something your end, not Dreamhost’s.
May 31st, 2007 at 8:27 am
yap, not a problem with mine too. just checked in.
May 31st, 2007 at 9:03 am
@ Bill : you cock - yeah right, DH have been just sitting and waiting for you to back up your database so they could take the server down right at that moment. Idiot. Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on your way out will ya..
GRRR WOOF!
May 31st, 2007 at 9:14 am
all my sites are down as well as FTP
May 31st, 2007 at 9:18 am
@Roy - working fine here.
May 31st, 2007 at 9:21 am
Working fine here too.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:00 am
Bill, instead of just leaving Dreamhost, why don’t you kill yourself instead? If you’re too stupid to get the idea of planned maintenance, you’re too stupid to breathe.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:05 am
They say, if whatever you’re going to say is not any better than silence then just shut up
May 31st, 2007 at 11:54 am
seems that there are more and more children on this forum every day…

All my sites are fine, haven’t seen downtime for ages! Thanks DH!
All those whose servers are down… check your own network before moaning, check you’ve typed the address correctly too, you never know… if you’re stupid enough to moan here and think it’s going to help you need to double check these things!
Enjoy your new hosting ‘Bill’ I hope you have lots of problems
May 31st, 2007 at 4:07 pm
Bob your sites down……
NOTTTTT! ha ha, reminds me of Borat
May 31st, 2007 at 8:45 pm
The system is down, now, 1/6/2007 at Current Time Is 21:45:32 PDT.
May 31st, 2007 at 8:53 pm
I was just blogging some news, then, without any notice, the db goes “kaboom”. No prior notice but after only 3 months, I know I shall not stay once my 2 years are finished… unless some breakthrough make DH stands for “Decent Host” because I’m sick of their dreams: I want results.
May 31st, 2007 at 9:41 pm
Blah blah blah… regurgitating news like millions of other bloggers isn’t exactly mission critical.
Quit being a cheapskate whiner and pay for redundancy if you really think anything you have to say is worth more than $9.95/month.
June 1st, 2007 at 3:36 am
@ Mike
———————
No one that whines here has a site that’s worth over $9.95/month. Crying doesn’t keep a site online. Paying for redundancy does.

For you information, Mike, let me tell you,
IX Webhosting is providing, 500 Gb, with 2.5Tb bw in just 95$ / year and ,
their uptime is also 99.99 percent….
Ok,
so, dont blame your luck, and donot try to give over-favored stupid DH comments !!!
June 1st, 2007 at 3:41 am
@Mike: paying for some unadvertised hickups is just unacceptable.
..And you do *not* judge others’ value, for that makes you an obvious prick.
June 1st, 2007 at 4:26 am
@ korbo,
you are absolutely right…!!!
June 1st, 2007 at 5:38 am
@korbo - uhhhh, find any other host that advertises and let us all know! Cause quite frankly I’m unaware of… any!
@Abbas - wtf does IX Webhosting have to do with what Mike’s comment that you quoted? It seems rather obvious it’s just spam… but then again I dunno. My DH account has 99.99% uptime, and that’s not even after a year of service. So I’m not sure how IX is any better…

I am using Firefox as my browser and this is what I get when I try to go to the panel:
The page isn’t redirecting properly
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

And yes, cookies are enabled.
June 1st, 2007 at 8:30 am
What page are you trying to access? It should be:
https://panel.dreamhost.com
Failing that try IE7, it’s actually pretty neat. I use FF though with no problems.
June 1st, 2007 at 8:42 am
Yep, IE worked. I guess I just didn’t try IE because FF has always worked before. Even though I am behind a corporate firewall.
OK, now I can get there but I can’t login.
June 1st, 2007 at 8:43 am
@ Bullseye : who pressed your button?
June 1st, 2007 at 12:34 pm
Yeah, look at all those hosts that advertise failures before they happen!
Reminds me of those people that only wear seat belts on days where they know there will be an accident.
I did learn something from your post, though. I learned that being called a prick doesn’t have much sting to it when it’s coming from an illiterate retard. Thanks for teaching me that!
June 1st, 2007 at 9:39 pm
@ Mike
Goto Hell.com,
and i donot have much time to waste on you and your idiotic behaviour,
and main part of the thing is,
you are a mental abnormal person, and you are a SELFISH….
Thanks for your time…!!
June 1st, 2007 at 10:18 pm
Like I said, illiteracy really takes the sting out of insults.
If you didn’t have time to waste, that post wouldn’t have happened.
June 2nd, 2007 at 12:50 am
If you think,
you are too much literate and PhD, then, you must have nt said, all of people “idiots”
and,
i think you are PhD of “stupidism”…
so, goto hell….
June 2nd, 2007 at 1:44 am
And *there’s* a class act of brilliance. Please, if you’re going to insult someone, try and do it in a way that doesn’t make *you* look stupid.
June 2nd, 2007 at 5:42 pm
Abbas: If you can’t even figure out what you’re trying to say, how can you expect anyone else to understand that gibberish?
Either learn how to speak English before trying to insult people with it, or type it out in your native language, then run it through an online Retard-to-English translator.
Didn’t you say that you didn’t have any time to waste? I’d say that randomly hitting keys on your keyboard, hoping that it will form words & sentences… might just be a waste of time.

Mike:
Hahahahah,
Bark, bark, bark,
my little doggy……
