precious slinky einstein dynomutt nipper otis rintintin grimm gromit bandit droopy pluto triumph zero checkers
There is an admin in the datacenter investigating right now, and we hope to have them working again shortly.
Updated 9:59pm the admin has rebooted the effected switch and all of these database servers should be up now.

“I guess high is reserved for when you’re raping the pets of your clients?”
Jeez…. no need for that kind of language. As far as I can tell, sites were down for 5 minutes…..

I wonder how many pets John has raped that he can’t even stop thinking about it during a database outage.
What does Asia time have to do with a US server problem?
Even if it was a planned outage, it would be based on US time. Can’t really complain about timezones when you choose to host outside of your home country.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:49 pm
@ John:
Do yourself a favour and find another host or have a chill pill.
@ Mike:
“Can’t really complain about timezones when you choose to host outside of your home country.”
That’s a lame remark, dude. Some of us choose to host abroad, for all kinds of reasons. Me myself for instance have been hosting with DH since early 98, at the time there wasn’t anything comparable plan/money wise here in the Netherlands. I’m happy with DH, so why should I leave, right? But this doesn’t change the fact that a web hosting company should be on guard for 24 hours a day. Or do you turn of the internet when you go to bed? When someone targets an Asian or European market/audience any outage during their peak time can be frustrating even if I/they know DH does their best to fix their problems. Besides, I think A very large part of the US customers are based outside of the US.
Try to have some understanding.

@ myself
“I think A very large part of the US customers are based outside of the US.”
Should of course have been: I think A very large part of the DH customers are based outside of the US.

It’s not a lame remark “dude”–it’s a fact. Shop outside of your timezone and you willingly give up the convenience of local business hours.
Nowhere did I say people should leave.
There you go. You knowingly put the importance of price above business hours.
I would too… but then I wouldn’t turn around and complain about it later.
They are on guard 24/7, but when a US host schedules downtime, they are going to do it on a US schedule. That’s common sense.
And it’s likely that a larger part are US based. So what? It’s still a US business on a US schedule.

@Mike: If Wasabi would have complained about scheduled maintenance you’d be absolutely right. But Wasabi asked to take something in consideration while fixing an outage/failure. If every company would take your advise and only serve customers on ‘their’ times a lot of companies would never be able to operate outside of their national borders. DH makes money of foreign customers. They even facilitate it knowingly. In the beginning for instance I could not host a Dutch tld (.nl) after requests DH made it possible. Now if DH would not want foreign customers, they wouldn’t have done that, right? However, they do. And thus they should take these kind of requests in consideration. (Which I think they do when possible)
Again, if this would have been a scheduled maintenance it would be totally unreasonable to take any timezone in consideration but their own. (Though, Does that mean that US east coasters shouldn’t complain either if a US west coast time is being used?)
Btw, There are cheaper hosts in the Netherlands these days, I stay because I’m a loyal customer, I like DH, so these days it’s certainly not a money issue anymore.

It seems my site (http://www.ningoo.net) still not work now?
June 1st, 2007 at 2:49 am
not work not work not work !
June 1st, 2007 at 2:50 am
@Mike: Sorry but it _was_ a lame remark and so is, “Shop outside of your timezone and you willingly give up the convenience of local business hours.” - This is the internet, get with the program.
I have worked for hosting companies and other networks and maintaining your servers uptime is _always_ a 24hr job.

oddly enough, a few minutes ago my db (otis) died, can’t connect. kinda interesting to see how my site fails when the DB is down, i’ll have to fix that…
but what’s NOT interesting is the resolved status of entry, since it just started for me and still exists for others.
oh DH, why is everything breaking lately? i know i don’t pay much but……. does it really have to be this bad?
and, yes, i put in a support ticket… we’ll see if anyone else on the best coast is still awake. =]
June 1st, 2007 at 2:56 am
My Wordpress site can’t connect to the mysql server on pluto either. It’s almost 7am in NY, making it 3am in CA. I submitted ticket as well.

@ Mike
———————
No one that whines here has a site that’s worth over $9.95/month. Crying doesn’t keep a site online. Paying for redundancy does.
——–
For you information, Mike, let me tell you,
IX Webhosting is providing, 500 Gb, with 2.5Tb bw in just 95$ / year and ,
their uptime is also 99.99 percent….
Ok,
so, dont blame your luck, and donot try to give over-favored stupid DH comments !!!
June 1st, 2007 at 3:43 am
@Mike: so you spend your time insulting other DH customers? I’ve been reading your idiotics comments for some time now.
@Abbas Khan: I’m sure I also read the very same “ad” in another thread… We’re here to comment on DH, not to force people off.
June 1st, 2007 at 3:57 am
@ korbo
You must have to stop mike….
I thinks he is not a chill guy…!!!
I agree with you…!!
June 1st, 2007 at 5:48 am
I moved all 8 of my sites from DreamHost to 1and1 last month.
My uptime has gone from about 75% to 100% — awesome! I’m so happy.
I’m using DH for test sites only now.
June 1st, 2007 at 8:43 am
Well, my email accounts aren’t working right now, they are asking for a password, what’s going on?
June 1st, 2007 at 8:44 am
Mine either, Marcos - it’s not only you. I hope we’re at least still getting mail & it’s not bouncing.
June 1st, 2007 at 9:14 am
Email is down (send and receive) and can’t get into panel. Site is up.
June 1st, 2007 at 9:50 am
Personally I can’t see any harm in people venting their frustration in these comment sections. As certain people keep reminding us *DH don’t read these comments* so no harm done if people want to vent. I can’t understand people like Mike and previously Whaaaambulance(sp?) who continue to bang their heads against the proverbial wall and throw personal insults around.
If you are 100% happy with the service why do you troll these comment sections? Your efforts have absolutely no effect on the number of people that vent their frustrations here so I can only assume you are trolling for a flame war (Or you’re just stupid and enjoy banging your head against the wall).
June 1st, 2007 at 11:05 am
My site is taking forever to load. Less than two weeks ago, it went down along with Dreamhost servers. Since it’s been back up, it loads about 75 percent slower. This goes for both audio and visual components of my site. I tried contacting Dreamhost and gave them a Sesame Street emai description, detailing the history of problems. I got back a hard-to believe, we checked our server/network and everything is “normal.” Duh, it’s not, that’s why I emailed you. It was normal for months before my site went down I am getting fet up.
June 1st, 2007 at 12:25 pm
Planet earth was here before the internet, genius. So were timezones. “Get with the program.”
Again, this is not complicated: When you shop outside of your timezone, you give up the convenience of local business hours.
I didn’t say support shut down. I said they will always SCHEDULE stuff based on US times. Simple.
I don’t insult customers… I insult idiots.
Nice to see you can’t stop reading my comments even though you seem to have a problem with them.
Now you know how the smart people feel when they have to read full a page of off-topic whining & stupidity that have nothing to do with the post.
So, you have no problem with off-topic whining and stupidity… but you have a problem with anyone that doesn’t want to cry along? Too bad.
If you want to hold an uninterrupted sissy convention, do it on your own domain, where you can personally ban anyone that’s older than 12 or has an IQ over 80.
Sure it does. It makes them cry even harder, which makes laughing at them even more fun.
The real question is: If you whiners are so miserable here, why do you troll the comments instead of just going to another host? There are thousands of them out there and no one is holding you here at gun point.
@Abbus:
You can spam for IX all you want, but spamming an even cheaper host, and trying to stress importance of a meaningless uptime ad, just further proves my point: You idiots that complain about downtime aren’t willing to pay for anything better, so get over it.
@Aidan:
Not a fan of research, are you? Moving to 1and1 is not upgrading by any means.
June 2nd, 2007 at 7:03 am
My sites have been downtime now…………….angry with it.
June 2nd, 2007 at 7:39 am
My sites is down http://shock17.com/ T_T
June 2nd, 2007 at 1:42 pm
Dupola, quit being a spamming piece of shit. Your site has been up every single time you’ve ever spammed it here.
June 3rd, 2007 at 1:33 am
Still down. Wah Waaaah.
June 3rd, 2007 at 6:28 am
Spam works best aimed at targeted markets. The fact 99% of people on here don’t understand Chinese means that your spamming ass is just wasting time and effort.
June 3rd, 2007 at 7:03 am
Hope one day DH can be a cheap but good hosting company like asmallorange.com…
not AD,just a unhappy customer form China
June 3rd, 2007 at 1:11 pm
My mysql server is not listed and is not working.

mikes a dork
June 4th, 2007 at 7:03 am
what the hell??? my server is down!!! And it’s 8:00AM!
June 4th, 2007 at 4:22 pm
And that has what to do with a 4 day old post?
Expect it to be down forever if you’re not going to contact support through the panel and let them know you’re having trouble.
You could also run a traceroute to see if the problem is even at Dreamhost’s end.
