Guess another weekend with out e-mail from customers. I set up my appointments for Saturdays during the day on Thursday and Friday. This is the second week that we have had e-mail issues. I seem to remember this SAME EXACT authentication problem - LAST YEAR!
Please figure it out. I am seriously going to look for a more reliable e-mail service. Other then the e-mail problems - DH is great.

GggggRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Can a week go past without a #$%$!# email problem?
June 1st, 2007 at 9:30 am
I’m disappointed in the quality of service I’ve been getting from Dreamhost lately….
Site5 even is having less problems than Dreamhost (that’s a shocker).
I’m not going to switch, but after my promo ends I will if this is the service I will be getting for $100.
Thanks for the update though.

“Current time is 10:38:38 PDT. This entry was posted 28 minutes ago on Friday, June 1st, 2007 at 9:06″
Hmm…
Love that math!
If the trouble was reported 28minutes ago (when it was 09:06a), then the current time should be 09:34, but it’s actually 10:38:38a. Maybe the “hours” variable was omitted from the “The entry was posted…” statement?!?
I wonder what timestamp my comment will get. It’s currently 10:42a as I click on the “Submit Comment” button.

It’s ~10a PDT when this alert was posted actually. Around 9:30a PDT, mail to a couple of DH hosted accounts went down. 30 minutes later, along with a couple of bagels and juice, my email is back up. Never even bothered to check if my forwards were working and see if Gmail or other reliable services were getting any mail. I lived with the outage just fine.
My point? If you can’t live with these outages without bursting a blood vessel, then do yourself the favor of securing a more reliable email service NOW. All the “I’m gonna..if…”s that flood the forums and status messages sound hollow to me –and I’m sympathetic. I’ll let the others tell you about all of DH’s pluses. The kind of rock-solid email availability that some crave is just not one of them.
I’ll point interested parties to one possible alternative that I’m considering should I decide migrate away from DH mail — the Google Apps standard(free)/premiere($$) could be a mighty fine deal for individuals and small companies out there. Always good to have alternatives at the ready…
Have a nice day, all.

FUCK! I’m getting really pissed… Every three days, something is down. I need to send mail right now.. Guess what! I can’t!
Will the only way to make Dreamhost stay stable be to start a class action lawsuit? If you can deliver, don’t sell it the first place.
June 1st, 2007 at 9:53 am
Can’t send and receive or get into the site’s control panel. This is the third week in a row with an email outage on this server. Different problem everytime, but always knocks out email, and 2 out of 3 times it’s been on Friday. I know stuff happens, but it’s beggining to look like a trend, and I’m not trendy.

Remi–you’re a class act! Thanks for sharing your clear and concise command of both the English language and common decency. Your mother–she must be proud.
Move your email to Google Applications…it’s flawless. Just like your language.
Don’t forget to close your mouth when you breathe,

Yes. I know I pay for cheap service. And honestly - I don’t care about my site’s uptime - I’m not losing any revenue, so no whining about that from me.
But I DO care about my email. It seems that there are email issues on an almost-daily basis — ones not even reported here on the status blog. I guess they deem most of the problems unworthy of mention here. Sometimes they may be for 5-10 minutes, sometimes longer, but when you’re trying to access on a break, even 5 minutes is frustrating.
While my sites may have a decent uptime (even if it doesn’t seem like it) - is email downtime calculated into the overall uptime figures? Probably not.
I don’t want to have to switch to gmail or hotmail or some such free generic email. Since I own my own domain name - I want to be able to use my domain email. I’m sick of this.

I’m trying to send emails from a php script when someone registers to my site however the emails still are not sending and I’m on spunky. Is it really resolved?
June 1st, 2007 at 10:31 am
@frustrated
I would use Google Apps. ITs free and uses your domain name. Its a good idea, and I do it just becasue of times like this. However, soon I will be hosting my own on my own server using Zimbra.
June 1st, 2007 at 10:42 am
@Tom - I will admit that when it comes to most things tech-related, I’m clueless. (Hence why I pay someone to host my sites instead of setting up my own server.) I’m not afraid to admit that.
My question - is the Google Apps difficult to set up? The email view - does it still look like gmail, with grouped messages? That is one of the biggest turn-offs about gmail to me, and one of the reasons I prefer my domain mail via webmail. (I converse with one person on a highly regular basis, and that grouping thing becomes a massive pain with the volume of email.)

To be honest this is the first problem I’ve gotten with my service for a while. It didn’t last long so I’m not too bothered. Dreamhost seems to be pretty good, and I’m happy. Maybe I’m just lucky given the comments above.
For me needs and the clients sites I host Dreamhost is just fine, I’ve got nothing to complain about as I’ve had much worse service in the past.
Dreamhost provides good service. Good on them. I agree with the people above if you want 99.99999% uptime then pay for it.

“UPDATE: This issue was resolved literally seconds after my initial post. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
Excuse me? You may wish to elaborate on this a little further. I could still not log-in 45 minutes after the trouble was supposedly reported.
If you are going to say that the problem is resolved, it might be appropriate to advise users how long it will take before it becomes usable to the general public.
June 1st, 2007 at 11:16 am
I had this issue and the server wouldn’t accept my username/password -logged into the panel -created a new mailbox saved the changes changed the password done -not even 2 minutes
I do wonder if i’ve lost mail -I guess I’ll only know if it was important

MySQL databases seem not to be working on Sunkist.

@frustrated
Yes, it does do what gmail does, so if you do not like than ok, but you can use POP and a POP client, like I do.
June 2nd, 2007 at 12:06 pm
how long does it take dreamhost to activate accounts. I bought mines late last night and im eager to start. =/
June 2nd, 2007 at 12:32 pm
@ Remi : “Will the only way to make Dreamhost stay stable be to start a class action lawsuit? If you can deliver, don’t sell it the first place.”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA damn that’s hilarious! Please, do try, I’d love to see the look on your face when a judge fines you for wasting court time.

@Deapoh -
To curb spam, DH has outgoing email throttles on all non-mailing list specific traffic. (this is the mailing list software supported and managed by DH, not personally installed mailing list software). You just might be running into one of them.
June 2nd, 2007 at 9:39 pm
Well unfortunately, e-mail problems exist with many hosts, and while I’m not defending DH for outages, as long as they are resolved as soon as possible, that’d be fine with me.
June 3rd, 2007 at 1:20 am
I have trouble now, so on my server isnt resolve.
June 3rd, 2007 at 6:54 am
customer form China,DH is really cheap(22.4$ for first year) and also sucks…i will change to hostingzoom.com next year…
not an AD…just a unhappy chinese customer…
June 3rd, 2007 at 8:58 am
What does being Chinese have to do with anything? And who cares if you’re leaving? This is a post about a mail server.
If you think Hostingzoom doesn’t have problems, you’re going to be in for a nice surprise. I’m sure they’ll appreciate you spamming them here, though.
And if DH really sucked, you wouldn’t wait a year to leave. If your site is really that unimportant, it’s not worth complaining about.
Seriously, those posts sound even more stupid than the rest. Think of how stupid someone would sound saying any of these:
- My wife cheats on me. I’ll divorce her next year.
- The baby sitter is molesting my child. I’ll find a new one next year.
- My car exploded. I’ll walk to work for the rest of this year, then get a new one next year.
- The cut on my leg is infected and turning green. I’ll go to the doctor next year.
See what I mean? And to top it off, you spammed a host you have no experience with… but might next year?
June 3rd, 2007 at 9:03 am
the main Dreamhost seems to be down right now
June 3rd, 2007 at 9:04 am
LMAO! I’m not ass kissing but Mike is very right :p
June 4th, 2007 at 9:27 am
Has this issue been resolved? I am still unable to access my mail.
Cheers,
Tony
June 4th, 2007 at 4:20 pm
It would probably be a good idea to contact support if you’re still having problems.
June 4th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
There are definitely still problems. I have not been able to send mail much at all for a few days.
June 5th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
I am on DH for more then a 1 year and i feel DH is good. I do send 10 - 15 mails daily and very rarely (
June 9th, 2007 at 8:04 am
Email out. Cannot reach https://panel.dreamhost.com/
What the heck is happening here?
June 9th, 2007 at 8:09 am
same issue here…everything seems to be falling apart…
if it was not for my boss telling me an email bounced back to her I would not know…
June 9th, 2007 at 10:25 am
All email being sent to my accounts on spunky are bouncing. I switched to Dreamhost specifically because of email problems with my previous host. I hate to go through the pain of switching again. But I hate even more having to tell my family that they lost emails again.
June 9th, 2007 at 10:43 am
I’m having problems, too. No mail since early last night. My ticket has gone unanswered.
October 20th, 2007 at 1:53 am
