Fileserver firmware upgrades
Tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 6th, 2007, at 12:00AM (Midnight) and Thursday, June 7th, 2007, at 12:00AM we will be performing an upgrade on one of our file servers. This is required to fix a couple of bugs which have been fixed in the latest release of code. The total estimated downtime for people on affected servers is around 30 minutes.
This usually means that only people who actually have a user on these file servers will experience downtime. Most of these servers will be completely unaffected.
Wednesday’s maintenance may affect users on these machines: dawber mcclure sack homer burns gir lenny zim harpo kearny willie ralphie lisa tak seamus brandine flanders nelson smithers bitters marge wiggum cheeky gotcha salt chalmers annie glass otto millhouse dib bart gloop yerba cletus larry skinner carl pogo monkey gaz gimli

Wednesday’s maintenance went off without a hitch. It took slightly longer than expected, but all of the machines are recovering gracefully. So far no reboots have been needed. It took about 45 minutes, instead of the estimated 30. I’m sorry about that.

Thursday’s maintenance is complete, however the web servers seem to be having trouble mounting the upgraded file server. We are looking in to this now. Stay tuned.
Update: 1:30AM. Looks like everything is back to normal with this file server. Sorry about the extended downtime on this one! It was being stubborn.

I felt like complaining about something but after reading the server names I was laughing too hard to do so.

Ho hum *drums fingers on desk*
Hope we are back ASAP.. I was in the middle of site news announcement.
June 5th, 2007 at 5:40 am
@Muggy - Read the announcement. This hasn’t actually happened yet. So whatever issue you are having now, it’s not because of this maintenance.
@Sanjaya - Any time is someone’s day time. I’m quite sure that DH is aware of how many customers they have in each geographic area, and that planned outages like this are scheduled to inconvenience the fewest number of customers. They certainly aren’t scheduling things like this for the convenience of their own staff.

Huh, so then would please let me some cash every month to live?

Next time your should list servers in alphabetical order. Human parsing on an ordered set is faster than running a find on an unordered set.
