Fresca down
Fresca suffered a hard drive failure, and is right now being transferred to new hardware. This should take no longer than an hour. We apologize for the inconvenience.
edited 12:36 a.m. PDT: Fresca’s services are all coming back up and sites are running again. Please submit a support request if are still affected by the server crash. Thank you for your patience!

Kudos to You, DH guys, for giving information so fast. I stumbled upon this message the minute I started to have problems connecting with my sites.
I hope You fix it ASAP

Enrico: DH really is magic!
June 20th, 2007 at 4:02 am
As my rails site went down together with the server, it didn’t get back up after server restart
PHP sites are OK, though.
But the rails one is my e-store. Support ticket sent, waiting for fixing the stuff.

Thanks, DH…my sites are down again for the 7th day in a row but props for getting it diagnosed and an explanation posted so quickly.
June 20th, 2007 at 5:08 pm
I think you’re having more then a fresca problem…I just freakin worked for over an hour making changes to my site and it all vaporized…and I can’t get through on the panel…I don’t know if tribal fusion is going at me for replacing their ugly ads with decent ones or what but everything I just did is gone. However your panel has been looking rather funky lately and your warnings of security breaches are starting to give me deja vu and when I tried to get thru via the panel it just spits back at me something about mail errors as the issue…I have a heck of a lot bigger issue and it really astounding that this has to happen when I have my site up for view at the big traffic conference in ny and it’s going on auction with a draw of 2 m plus with moniker THIS week…please email me and tell me you’ll give me some kind of explanation AND remedy b/c I have GOT to make some serious changes pronto. and your panel buttons are half blanked out…
thanks -

It looks like it might be “just you”.
June 20th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
Well, I have been sucking with dreamhost for a while now. DOS and other kind of servers issues are daily. And now the mysql server is fkdup.. I can’t recommend dh for anybody.
June 20th, 2007 at 7:03 pm
barry is down.
June 20th, 2007 at 8:47 pm
Barry’s not down. You should contact support if you’re having a problem with your site.
June 20th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Like Jim, I’d like to thank the DH staff (even though they don’t read this, right? I mean, I’m not counting the trolls) for always telling me when my site is down (note to self: oops… do not use the word “always” as asked by the trolls, remember?), as if I couldn’t notice that myself. It’s like a thief that sends you an email before stealing your tv.
Below is a transcription of a recent Hosttracking report of today, a downtime not even related to the new problems (I guess, I’m in different servers) but I’d like to show it just to tell that they also know when a DH site is down but I’m afraid that they are liars because their reported downtime is much longer than what DH says it will be/was/is (the time in the report is GMT -3):
Hello,
http://www.fractalland.com is now back to normal.
Operation restored at 2007-06-20 23:56:22.
Url was down as a result of: Http error:Http_client.Bad_message(”Unknown reason (e.g. unexpected eof, timeout)”)
Error was detected at 2007-06-20 23:00:41
Downtime total 55 min 40 sec.
June 20th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
I didn’t notice that there is a downtime in fresca. My site is ok. Good work on DH team.
June 20th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
What the heck scheduled maintenance today and no email outages my arse. What the heck I need my business email come on guys.
June 20th, 2007 at 11:11 pm
What sites or services does this Fresca thing effect?? I cant get into my webmail service….
June 20th, 2007 at 11:34 pm
I guess is the power maintenance thing in the previous post: your server is on, but some details are probably stored in the main computer.
P.S. I would hide that error messages…
June 20th, 2007 at 11:53 pm
Ouch. Web panel is out and galaxie’s time is showing 8 hours in the past - cron jobs not happening.

this has been happening WAY TOO OFTEN lately !!!!!!!!
Whats going on ?
June 21st, 2007 at 12:18 am
All servers down here (can’t even access panel.dreamhost.com) as of 12:15:13 PDT. I wouldn’t normally complain on this blog, but the continual downtime is making me seriously reconsider dreamhost. I certainly couldn’t recommend it to anyone after the last few months.
This status blog is a great idea, but it doesn’t always reflect reality; often problems are added almost retrospectively, and not all problems are listed.
June 21st, 2007 at 12:19 am
yoohoo down (503) …
June 21st, 2007 at 12:22 am
That woiuld be because of the database mainitenance being done on the panel/webmail database, scheduled from 10 PM until 2:00 AM PDT this morning. It was posted about.
June 21st, 2007 at 12:23 am
Yeah our site is down and so is the control panel so we can’t report it.
June 21st, 2007 at 12:24 am
My site’s down, but it’s on virgil, not fresca. What gives?
June 21st, 2007 at 12:27 am
Incredibly slow with all my sites hosted here. Also http://www.jasonsantamaria.com/ and http://www.simplebits.com/ .
June 21st, 2007 at 12:33 am
all my sites down (and dreamhost.com!) for the past 15 minutes and counting…where’s the status update?
June 21st, 2007 at 12:33 am
Mail - not simply webmail - is also down.
June 21st, 2007 at 12:35 am
probe is not responding (12:23 PDT)
June 21st, 2007 at 12:35 am
Hi guys,
Something’s definitely up - no panel.dreamhost.com, all my sites are down, email too (IMAP/webmail).
June 21st, 2007 at 12:36 am
all my websites are down, again
June 21st, 2007 at 12:37 am
Everything is down. No email, FTP or web sites. I’d report it but the main dreamhost site is down as well. Last week I discovered I was losing email for a few days and I know its not the first time. The occasional problem is completely understandable but this has now become an almost daily event or me with one problem or another.
June 21st, 2007 at 12:38 am

June 21st, 2007 at 12:38 am

Hmmm, interesting. Few points to all:
The notice I found on the control panel (which is down for maintenance) was that there was an hour of downtime for maintenance right now, and that email would work but *webmail* would not (I see a comment about them being liars because “email” is down). Is it? If it is and it’s out for an hour making you all mad about losing business then I suspect your “email” might be more than business mail; sounds more like bulk mail if an hour or so of downtime, even infrequent, is a huge financial burden.
Speaking of which - I’ve only every experienced one DOS attack that messed up access to my website and account in my 7 of service with DH. Actually, I can’t remember if it effected my account (control panel) at all, just the website. I have more uptime than down time, and really don’t care to get pedantic about the numbers. Point is, I don’t know what people are talking about with daily DOS attacks and server issues or how it relates to the current problem (if it is a problem - maintenance is necessary sometimes). Do DOS attacks made more frequently by spammers or against them? Either way, I wish they’d leave this network alone.
This new downtime is a maintenance thing for the entire network, scheduled or not, and is not just Fresca going down. Maybe it’s needed because of something that happened when Fresca went down, maybe not - that was yesterday. There is no thread and there might not be one about a scheduled maintenance downtime of an hour at midnight on the 21st.
I’m not defending DH, merely observation of what complaints and praises in these threads look like to me.
Oh, and it looks like the control panel is back up. I found the maintenance notice shortly after 12 am, said it’d be less than an hour of downtime, and it’s now 12:42. Webmail is still throwing errors, but POP/IMAP is working.
June 21st, 2007 at 12:54 am
I cannot believe that my website is down, it might be saddam hussein! Fix the damn server or I’ll have ronald dumsfeld personally interrogate you in Abuguanamo!
June 21st, 2007 at 1:06 am
Webmail being down may not be an issue for you, but it’s how we access our mail, and the outages are frequent and rarely listed here.
For the past half hour I’ve been trying to log in to the DH panel, but the page won’t load or I get errors. That happens nearly every time our email is down so there is no way for us to report the issue or find out the status of what is going on. Lucky for some they managed to see the posted notice od f planned outage while the panel was still working… why wouldn’t that be listed here too?
I didn’t sign up to pay for “more up-time than down-time”, and the frequency speaks to me of more than this being a one-issue instance that happened after the Fresca issue was under way.
June 21st, 2007 at 1:24 am
Come ON.
Webmail being down is a HUGE issue. Many people, including me, rely on it exclusively for access to our email.
This is a VERY BASIC SERVICE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW IT CAN BE DOWN SO OFTEN.

“Webmail being down is a HUGE issue. Many people, including me, rely on it exclusively for access to our email.

Erm this is the 2nd time in a couple of years I’ve not been able to access webmail. I think in that time I’ve had issues a totoal of 4 times with DH’s service. 2 of those required support tickets which were resolved in under 8 hours (I’m in the UK so my hours of operation don’t necessarily tally with DHs). Which is perfectly acceptable imho.
Why don’t we all just chill a little and actually recognise the good work the guys do. DH is one of the most feature laden hosts for practically zero cash. If downtime is a big issue for you you need to go pay for a host that offers an SLA and guarantees 99.999% uptime.
Computers break, shit happens, get over it.
June 21st, 2007 at 1:56 am
Webmail access down… mysql problems.
What’s happening guys?
June 21st, 2007 at 2:07 am
to access to my e-mail right know.
June 21st, 2007 at 2:12 am
Mark, I’m glad to hear your webmail is reliable, I unfortunately experience access problems a few times a month.
If it can’t be provided for the price advertised, it shouldn’t be offered.
June 21st, 2007 at 2:53 am
I don’t know what y’all are bitchin’ about. I’m stuck in front of a computer 8 to 12 hours a day and the one thing I can always count on is getting into webmail. What I want to know is WHEN, oh WHEN, is someone going to develop a filter for characters other than English. Over half of my spam is in Cyrillic these days. So incredibly boring.
June 21st, 2007 at 3:00 am
If it was before 5:00 AM EST, I’d say central database maintenance. But… um… it’s 6:00 AM EST, the maintenance was supposedly over an hour and a bit ago, so… beats me.
June 21st, 2007 at 3:04 am
They told you it’d be down already for maintenance. Inability to read on your part does not constitute a wrong doing on DH’s. Suck it up, buttercup.
June 21st, 2007 at 3:29 am
OK, to access in your webmail >> http://mailboxes.yourserver.com it works, i think there’s a mysql problem in webmail.
June 21st, 2007 at 3:38 am
OK great everybody is suffering. And DH is scratching their…
Maintenance? Why isin’t there a backup server till the maintanance work done on some servers?
June 21st, 2007 at 4:19 am
Everything seems to be working again.
June 21st, 2007 at 4:54 am
I can’t believe so many people at the start of this thread are saying how great DreamHost is. Our site is still down. It has gone down literally 20 times in the last two weeks. Once for 15 hours. Totally unacceptable and unprofessional. And the worst thing is the communication has been absolutely terrible by DH. Scheduled downtime is one thing but this is more than that. And its obvious from this thread that even the scheduled downtime isn’t being communicated well enough. Do customers have to constantly check a hoster’s status page if they currently lose their website? Some of us are running businesses here and we need to be proactively told about scheduled downtime BEFORE It happens.
