DreamHost Webpanel, now with less lag!
The long processes of database upgrades for the Webpanel is now complete. With a full round of upgrades of the database hardware and software, as well as countless hours of panel code and query optimization, the panel is now running much faster than it ever has. This is good news, since the panel is being used quite a bit more than ever before! It received 140,000 page views in just the last 24 hours. We will not rest on out laurels though! We know that we can do even better!

So … why were they down ?
June 22nd, 2007 at 2:51 am
Luckily, they are not! But if they were, this would still not be the reason. But now that we know they are not, it will be easier to not complain!
June 22nd, 2007 at 2:56 am
At 2:44 until 2:45 PDT they were … i was just checking my sites in exactly that minute and they were all down, so i checked here to see what’s wrong …
Anyway, it’s all ok now, great job guys.

Yay! Panel has always been good but a little bit sluggish. Nice work Dreamhost.

Hi,
I’d just like to say thanks for all your efforts. It’s obvious that your company has taken great pains in the last few months to make us subscribers happy.
Kudos to your responsiveness, and all the best.

I have been testing the panel speed and now is a flashing speed awesone panel!!
much better than before.
Keep on good working!!
June 22nd, 2007 at 6:38 am
very nice!

The panel definitely seems faster to me, and being on the bottom side of the planet, I suffer from more latency than most.
Congratulations on a job well done.

Who cares about the panel when the sites are down 10 times a day. I`d give away the panel and use only SSH for stability other *normal* companies offer.

Dreamhost should implement this: http://rakaz.nl/item/make_your_pages_load_faster_by_combining_and_compressing_javascript_and_css_files to improve their page loads..for the web panel. Helped me shave off about 3 seconds from my average web site loading times.

@ S. Says: What is your domain? Without mentioning your domain there is no way for anyone to look into your problem!

I can’t access the FTP. It’s timing out.
Ticket submitted =_=

Up, Down, Up, Down, Up, Down..
Every time there is an issue, it’s also my servers’ issue. So much for the individual RSS feed. It seems to me that if someone sneezes over there, my sites go down.
Granted, they are mostly up, uptime is surely well above 50% ..oh yeah.
And when one tries to say something up here, there is a bunch of people here that jump on him, that call him “idiot” that tell him to get a more reliable host, etc etc.
When I first signed up, a few years ago. I was paying $49/month.. then the price came down and so did reliability..
I suspect many people didn’t ask for “el cheapo” and even those that did, didn’t expect this kind of non-uptime.
Moving sites is a pain, and one always hopes things will improve, but it seems to me that they are only getting worse.
I’l be glad if I could just pay more and get more reliability.. Give me the option to stay and lose the downtime.. please ?
Thank you,
Davide

I’m finally moving, too bad I’m out of my 97 day trial.
Could you fix yoohoo server to be able to finalize my server move?
Thanks
June 22nd, 2007 at 12:43 pm
We are experiencing problems with yoohoo too, i think it’s a server-wide problem
June 22nd, 2007 at 12:44 pm
@Marco
3 mins 2 secs ago: Outage resolved: No server-wide problem was found.
23 mins 47 secs ago: Outage first reported.
June 22nd, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Well, it’s faster but nowhere near the speed which I see at other hosts.
June 22nd, 2007 at 4:45 pm
Yay!

DNS Error - Server cannot be found
June 24th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
So does this mean it takes less than 3-days to make a change now?
June 25th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Taking forever to log in to panel right now……

@Steven Colbert
>Taking forever to log in to panel right now
Indeed. Can’t get it to load fully. I’d rather have the more laggy but usable version than the less laggy and unfunctional version.
June 25th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
It sorta works, it takes forever though, I’m doing one-click installs of Word Press and I had one take 10 minutes to finally load the page saying it was submitted! The next one took less time (only 5 minutes) but this time the stylesheet for the panel didn’t load. I’m also seeing rather sluggish response from SSH to my Dreamhost server, I suspect they’re getting hit by a DDoS, at least that would explain the symptoms. I do hope they post something soon about what’s wrong though, I’d like to at least know what’s wrong…

@allen klosowski - are you exaggerating here? what are you doing that takes three days? is something broken? Is there some configuration taking longer then it should?
@anonymous blogger - wouldn’t your browser time out before 10 minutes? It only takes 1-2 seconds to generate that page depending on if you create a new database or not. where are you located? Can you run a traceroute to see if there is a bottleneck in the network in your path to us?
June 26th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
Panel has been up and down all day. No notice on www.dreamhoststatus.com. Now I can log in, but it looks like a “safe version.” No graphics, all text links, pages don’t load fully.
June 27th, 2007 at 1:30 am
panel has not been up and down all day! It has just been up. and even faster then after this post. there is also not a safe version of the panel. do all other connections to your website and dreamhost.com work while you are seeing this issue?
