Postal Filer Issues Causing Outages

Posted (July 6th, 2007 at 5:48 pm PST) by Jason C

One of our network fileservers on the postal cluster is currently having some problems. This is causing issues with a whole plethora of servers on the postal cluster. Members of our admin team are currently investigating the issue and we should hopefully have an update for you shortly.

We’re really sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you — but we swear that everything is being done to get things back up and running.

–Update Fri Jul 6 22:30:27 PDT 2007–

This was actually resolved about 4 hours ago, evidently we neglected to mark it so. Sorry for the oversight!

Thanks for the heads up. Was wondering why I couldn’t get mail, but this explains it.

Keep up the good work! :-)

That was fast reporting hehe, keep up the good work :)

I love downtime. No, really.

Could this explain why my website is down? http://www.bearsuitpublishing.com

Actully websites been down for almsot 2 hours now ;/

Since this is “causing issues with a whole plethora of servers”, could this be considered severity-HIGH instead of low?

No it wasn’t fast reporting. Mail has been hit and miss for hours prior to the news.

And severity is high to some of us.

My site’s down, too. Guess 7-7-7 isn’t so lucky after all.

Anyone know when this will be resolved?

I am still having intermitent problems, getting into my SMTP and webmails,

This problem is definitely not resolved. I’m still having problems connecting to my mail accounts.

I agree, I’m still getting prompted for my password over and over again. I do not think this is resolved.

Still not resolved!

our site’s down… i don’t see anything about it here, so maybe this is something new? or related like some people have commented….

SITE DOWN: http://www.staugepiscopal.org

I’m getting internal server errors……site was just down yesterday!

yayayayayyayayaya
my website is down

braaaaaaavo

Yo Ed, it’s up now.

It’s now the 7th, and it ain’t just email. The status says Low and resolved. I have over 40 domains hosted and/or forwarded. they are ALL down. I been a Dreamhost customer since 2001 and I have NEVER seen so many problems back-to-back as I have seen in the last few months.

I stay loyal to Dreamhost but at what financial cost to me and my online businesses?

This is completely unacceptable. It was all a bed of roses when I started with Dream Host around 3 or 4 months ago. It’s never been this bad. The last month or two has been a nightmare of weekly down times. Sometimes 2x a week. I’m not sure I can take it anymore. I hope things get resolved very soon. It’s a shame, my web sites have been growing but I figure I’ve been losing quite a bit of traffic on each day my site has been down, and that is my great frustration at the moment. Momentum in building traffic is lost when things like this happen.

This issue isn’t resolved. I have connection failures to my mail server (YOUR mail server) on 7/7:

7:30am, 8:00am, 11:40am, 1:20pm, 3:50pm.

I poll for new mail every 10 minutes or so. You can see how bad the service was on Saturday.

Load on the Server I’m on is going up to 200 again. It’s always the same. Load goes up to about 200, stays there, root logs in, load goes down to 5 (still to high), root logs out, load goes up to 200, root logs in and on and on, Horrible. The server has been down often and nothing was reported here. MySQL performance sucks. I just started a domain transfer to a new host where the site is there instantly after entering the address, even a Gallery site with 7000 high resolution images loads instantly. Opposed to the 30secs it needs to load here at DH. I gave DH a try, but sadly it didn’t work out.

Anybody else having cgi form problems? Suggestions? This problem has been intermittent on one of my sites for two weeks and all I get is they are working on it. Latest is today and no response from Support for my unhappy customer who is losing money. Keep getting the Bad referrer error. :(

For a pretty cheap web host that overall has a lot of great features, you people act as if it should be 110% perfect, nothing is perfect! Keep up the great work DreamHost! :-)
