I haven’t gotten any email all afternoon. IMAP connects fine, as does squirrelmail, but there’s just no mail. I usually get at least 50 pieces of spam a day, so it’s highly improbable that I haven’t gotten any. What’s the deal? Why is this marked resolved?

And that's why you're in journalism. If one person says it, then it must be fact. There's just nothing else it could be. Here's another fact for you. You sir have absolutely no room to be "educating" anyone. If after supposedly 28 years or more of writing etc you still have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, it's not your time you're wasting. Just the same, though, you can still take your supposed facts without any indication whatsoever that they're facts to anyone else except you and kindly shove them. The world doesn't need anymore morons offering opinions.

That's where you're wrong. Facts are the proof. Didn't you get that? Facts cannot be opinion, by their nature, and you're just being silly by suggesting they could be. And I'm pretty much done wasting any more of my time trying to educate you. Believe what you want.

<blockquote>
The truth is that people use “due to” and folk know what they mean. However, the fact is that they shouldn’t because it’s incorrect.
</blockquote>

And this would be a fact according to what? Facts also require they can be proven. If it can't be, then it stops being a fact and starts being an opinion. Which is entirely fine--you are, of course, entitled to yours. But if you're gonna call it otherwise, show me where your information's coming from.

I've had the degree too long to fit modern misconceptions of the I'm Witless News generation. Besides, "supposed to" is usually an assumption based on heresay and rumor. On the other hand, whether it does or doesn't, people pay me for it --repeatedly-- so I'm forced to assume that it has some value.

Look, let's ignore the fact that you decided to take a tongue-in-cheek comment and fill it with high-handed pissosity. The simple fact is that there are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands or even millions, of things that are in common usage in language --and which appear in dictionaries and posssibly thesauri, gasp-- but that are also inappropriate in their usage.

Dictionaries tend to abet that usage because the word or phrase has become popular. While there's no real harm in such behavior beyond a furtherance of ignorance among those who don't know any better --something that's apparently acceptable in a Web 2.0 world-- neither the inclusion nor the repeated usage make it technically correct. All it does is make it acceptable and, unfortunately, repeatable among the masses.

It's like the difference between fact and truth. Although the two are typically bound together erroneously in most logics, truth is fungible while fact is immutable. The truth is that people use "due to" and folk know what they mean. However, the fact is that they shouldn't because it's incorrect.

If you can't understand that then there's no hope for the universe, Flash Gordon won't defeat Ming the Merciless, and no point in carrying on.

<blockquote>
An online dictionary! I’m impressed. Online stuff is just so spot on! Oh, I give up for sure! My journalism degree and 28 years as a writer are meaningless in comparison!!! Forgive me for doubting you!
</blockquote>

I can find it on paper if you'd prefer. Unfortunately I'd have to scan it and put it online. Which by your own logic would make it untrustworthy. Oh, yeah... you majored in journalism. Your logic's supposed to suck.
