Postal file server moves
On tuesday, July 17th, 2007, at 10pm, we will be moving the Postal file servers in to join their web server’s in our other datacenter. This will mean a total downtime of all web and email services for the postal cluster. We expect the downtime to take about 1 hour.
Edit: One day we will get the date correct.
All done! Everything should be back up and running now. Please contact technical support if you are having problems!

Tomorrow is Tuesday July 17th, or is this change going to be done tonight Monday July 16th?
July 17th, 2007 at 7:35 am
Do you mean 10am? The mail server seems to be unresponsive as of about half an hour ago.
July 17th, 2007 at 7:47 am
I’ve been having problems with the mail server as well for the past few hours.

I’m finding that nearly all my sites are extremely slow right now - unrelated to mail functions - is this expected?
July 17th, 2007 at 10:52 pm
IMAP connections are being dropped both from client and webmail.
July 17th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
This is for the “Postal” cluster so if your sites are not on that cluster then you should submit a support ticket for any issues.
Check the “Account Status” button on the upper right hand of the webpanel you should see your cluster under the section “Your Email Server
July 17th, 2007 at 11:55 pm
I am on postal, my web server is Bart, then why all Web Services are down too ??
July 18th, 2007 at 6:29 am
Saurav -
As I understand it the entire cluster of machines named postal (both file servers and web servers) were bing moved. This should be completed by now and you should see no issues.
To find out what cluster you are on, look in the control panel under “account status” and look for “Your email server” - this is the name of the “cluster” that you belong to.

Last weekend my site was 2days down, this weekend it starts again
That sucks!!!!
July 21st, 2007 at 1:04 am
Once again, I haven’t been affected by downtime. Quite honestly, I’ve been very happy with my hosting service. I see a lot of people complaining about downtime, but the only downtime I’ve ever seen was last year with the network/Cisco issues. And that really wasn’t all that bad for our site. Hmm. I’m glad you guys are proactive though, Thanks. =)

Tron is down. Panel is down. What’s going on?
July 24th, 2007 at 12:09 am
I can’t log in to the web panel, because I’ve forgotten my password. The Forgot password link just tells me that the session has expired, please reauthenticate - huh???? The best bit is that I can’t send e-mail to support because my e-mail isn’t working - I get an automatic reply telling me to use the web panel and have the password e-mailed if I’ve forgotten it! Don’t know whether to laugh or cry…
July 24th, 2007 at 12:36 am
problem with panel being down is that we are completely unable to contact support about anything at all. all my domains are down right now and it’s not a nice feeling really that nothing is put on the statuspage.
July 24th, 2007 at 12:42 am
I can’t reach one of my sites and mail at the moment.
The panel also seems to be down, does anyone else experience this?

July 24th, 2007 at 12:52 am
mail is working fine here as far as I can tell.
July 24th, 2007 at 1:00 am
I can get to your mac-net site without any problem btw.
July 24th, 2007 at 1:16 am
One of the sites and panel are down since yesterday. At this moment i cant even access the support category in a panel since its all down, cant even login.
July 24th, 2007 at 1:21 am
some users have reported that they can get to the site now. for me it still does a timeout.
July 24th, 2007 at 2:09 am
I’m having the same problems accessing my own site and Dreamhost’s panel. It would be great if we had some input from Dreamhost on this.
July 24th, 2007 at 2:16 am
I can’t access few of my sites and I am unable to access the panel to report it. I have seen this almost an hour and half ago. God knows how long it has being down for. I think the way this is going on I will not be renewing my service.
July 24th, 2007 at 2:50 am
Come on, once again, EVERYTHING is down.
July 24th, 2007 at 2:57 am
Looks like a dns issue with the web panel, its going straight to google search pages looking for panel.dreamhost.com,
All my websites are down as well, is this just affecting the Jolt webserver ? anybody else on a different server experiencing issues?
July 24th, 2007 at 3:41 am
All my sites/email are down too. I’m in the UK.
July 24th, 2007 at 4:03 am
Yeh, UK here too… most of the DH stuff is down for me… but a few parts of my hosted material, namely a forum seems to still be alive.
July 24th, 2007 at 4:15 am
Thanks for the update. So does that mean people in the U.S. can see my website, but Europe (and I) can’t?
July 24th, 2007 at 4:40 am
My website is up, and most of my email accounts (apart from one I’ve been having other trouble with). I’m in Finland (N-Europe). But the panel is down and support e-mail not working.
July 24th, 2007 at 5:31 am
Thanks Cailin! At least i know half my audience can see my site, even if I can’t update it!
July 24th, 2007 at 5:38 am
it seems to be a routing problem, not a dns problem. which still sucks ofcourse but most likely not something which is caused by dreamhost.
July 24th, 2007 at 7:05 am
I can’t reach most of my sites hosted on Caramello, I also can’t access the panel for support, it all gives me a time-out
Help please!
July 24th, 2007 at 7:37 am
Dollar is all boogered to hell. First the tmp dir filled up now the load has gone mental and nothing works. My clients are hitting the roof. Gah. They’re looking into rebooting it but they don’t know why it’s gone mental…
July 24th, 2007 at 9:26 am
no FTP access to Fidget. had problems accessing Fidget yesterday as well. 1/3 of my domains are unreachable, but all of them are hosted on the Fidget server. Panel is inaccessible. *sigh*
July 24th, 2007 at 9:30 am
On the road and can’t access webmail. Also can’t access the panel to file a ticket. Very frustrating…
July 24th, 2007 at 9:45 am
Also in Europe, but only have one site out of two available. No Panel at all, and no FTP to the unavailable site, and just as I needed to upload some files, too. Argh!
Gumdrop is unavailable, but izze is still accessible for me. Alas, the site hosted on izze isn’t the one I want to upload to.
July 24th, 2007 at 11:30 am
Mike, your site is up! I’m also in the UK and you should look at your ISP rather than Dreamhost.
July 24th, 2007 at 11:44 am
I’m also in the UK, my websites are down, I can’t get get at panel.dreamhost.com either or pick up email.
Funnily enough mebmail is working so at least we can get at our emails that way.
Any ETA on a solution?
July 24th, 2007 at 1:20 pm
Still no announcement or update? My server (fidget) has been inaccessible all day. FTP just times out. Panel is down. I’m in the US… Atlanta, GA. So, it doesn’t appear to be a UK only issue. DH - what gives?
July 24th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
I’m another UK user that’s been affected since early this morning.
I can’t get my DH control panel, and don’t have web or email access to some DH-hosted sites.
Established facts:
On the same server, some sites work and some sites don’t (for me, in the UK, using my ISP: PlusNet). Of the sites that don’t work for me, some are accessible from elsewhere (e.g. from Germany, using anonymouse.org) while others aren’t.
So far there’s been a correlation for me between sites I can’t access and POP servers i can’t access, but, in each case tested, i’ve still been able to get mail via mail2web.com (which uses the same host details as my local email client, but is trying from its own location in the US).
Although this won’t help explain inaccessibility of some sites from outside the UK, I was wondering which of us who are still having problems accessing our control panels and sites from within the UK could share which ISP we are using and see if there’s any indication of ISP that are and aren’t affected. So:
Question 1: Which ISP are you with?
(I’m with PlusNet, who are now owned by BT.)
Question 2: Can you see Mike Ball’s mundsleyjuniorschool site? (Click on his name to try.)
(I can’t, @ 21:30 UK time, though it seems why2 could a short while ago.)
July 24th, 2007 at 1:42 pm
Hmm, Mike’s post has disappeared (probably due to people seeing if they could see his site - eek, my bad) so *please* don’t try to see if you can access his site.
Ignore Question 2 in my previous comment! Thanks.
Sorry all (and particularly Mike).
July 24th, 2007 at 2:40 pm
I am in the UK, My ISP is Toucan can access some of my sites but not other. The one on my name is unaccessible since this morning. can anyone please check it out and let me know if u can access it.
thanks
July 24th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
well i have just tried using a proxy site dontfilter.us to check my site and horray it is working
July 24th, 2007 at 6:32 pm
Hmmm! I sometimes wonder if some of the complainers are people from other hosting services just trying to give dreamhost.com a bad name because I have a few webmail issues every now and then that last about 10 minutes the most, no big deal to me and I can not recall ever having any downtime what so ever. DreamHost.com is like a dream come true on web hosting! -Shawn
P.S. Keep up the AWSOME work folks!
July 24th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
Shawn - you don’t get referral money for talking good about DH here. (grin). But I am happy to hear you’re happy.
July 24th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
One of my domains appears to work, and I’ve got panel access. My ISP (in UK) is Plus.net.
July 24th, 2007 at 7:34 pm
Possible reason for some of apparent connectivity issues we’ve seen today is a massive power outage in SF affecting some server farms downtown. This *could* be what’s causing the issues that we are seeing.
