Mail Problems on Postal/Spunky/Randy/Spacey
Unfortunately our primary mail load balancer crashed and rebooted causing mail problems to all the mail servers listed above. Our secondary load balancer took over but needed a manual update to get going. Everything is coming back now and we’ll keep an eye on the load balancer.
To see if you are on these mail servers log into the panel and click on the Account Status link in the top right. Under Email Server you will see what server handles your mail.

Wow - that was a fast resolution…

I WANT MY MAIL BACK
July 27th, 2007 at 11:35 am
And what happens to the mail lost in this transition? is it retrievable by any means?
July 27th, 2007 at 11:59 am
Nop, still without POP3 mail service…
July 27th, 2007 at 12:01 pm
What *were* the mail problems?
July 27th, 2007 at 12:05 pm
12:04, still no mail service
July 27th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
Same here: still nothing…not even webmail.
July 27th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
Mail would have been deferred with an incident like this so no mail should have been lost. If you are still having mail problems you issue was not related to this problem. You should write a support ticket. The problems where incoming and outgoing mail were down as well as user unknown and password incorrect errors.
July 27th, 2007 at 12:18 pm
still can’t log into webmail/squirrelmail.
July 27th, 2007 at 12:39 pm
How can this be called “resolved,” when I still can’t send email to Dreamhost or to my own staff?
July 27th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
I cannot login to my main email account but all the other ones work. I think the additional problem people might be experiencing may be to do with the password reset script. I tried resetting my password on the main account when I first noticed this issue. All the other accounts had their passwords unchanged. Now only the main account does not work??? Coincidence? I think not!
Well I might be grabbing at straws here out of spacey desperation but I thought it was worth a mention.
July 27th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
Ah, it just started to work again here!
(on spunky)
July 27th, 2007 at 1:32 pm
No joy on Spacey yet…
July 27th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Quick peep in the control panel -> support -> account tests reveals…..

Is anyone else having issues with their mysql in the last hour+ or so (that I’ve noticed) before I go inquire about it? (on spacey)
July 27th, 2007 at 2:09 pm
where they are my e-mails old?
July 27th, 2007 at 3:25 pm
mysql/Internal Server Error
This mail is from an hour ago:
“I am really quite sorry about this! There was an issue where a user on
the server was getting carried away with using up more resources than
they should have been. We have warning scripts that let us know when
this is happening and occasionally kill off processes if they are too out
of control. Apparently this user was using so many that the scripts had
no time to do their thing.
The server should be in the process of coming back up now and an admin is
doing what they can to get things all stable for you and everyone else on
the server. If you happen to see any more problems after about 30
minutes, please don’t hesitate to let me know and I’ll be happy to take a
look at things for you - or at the very least give you a status update.
After all, I am here to help!”
(p.s. I’m on look)

I can’t even view my account test results. Has anyone else had this problem? I’ve tried several times throughout the day. Also, I too am getting errors that my password is incorrect, but it IS MY PASSWORD! Any suggestions? I’ve reset it already, and it still works for webmail…
July 27th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
Wow. First time since I started using DH my mail cluster was even mentioned here. Or had any kind of downtime. And I was probably sleeping for most if not all of it–I work nights. I love DH.
July 27th, 2007 at 7:14 pm
Hell, I’m still waiting for a new address I set up to start working …
July 27th, 2007 at 10:51 pm
wow this is the first time my cluster has had any issue since I joined two years ago
guess this explains the delayed notifications I’ve been getting.
July 28th, 2007 at 9:01 am
Hoorah back up again. All accounts working. Thanks for fixing it DH. I was beginning to get worried there.
July 28th, 2007 at 10:09 am
dunno wtf DH changed, but I can no longer send email from an application on the server using either SMTP or sendmail.. and it is vital. Has the SMTP outgoing address changed from a1.balanced.spacey.mail.dreamhost.com?
July 28th, 2007 at 10:22 am
Well thank god its fixed!
July 28th, 2007 at 10:34 am
ran account test.. Your email address’s POP3 password is misconfigured. Getting really sick of this shit. ticket submitted.
July 28th, 2007 at 10:34 am
i am glad that it is fixed thanks for your interest
July 28th, 2007 at 7:52 pm
Well, im still having problems with my email.
July 28th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Wow, I could log in to my email for a while
July 29th, 2007 at 12:39 am
I still can’t log on to the web panel… I wonder if DH has a way of kicking GlobalXing’s butt if it’s them causing it…
July 29th, 2007 at 6:15 am
Still having issues with both POP and IMAP. Tried changing my password, of course that was before I saw this…..
July 29th, 2007 at 10:38 am
My mail cluster is listed as “randy”. Mail for all accounts on my domain is coming in very slowly, and when it does come in, it’s “Received Date” is listed as January 3, 1970.
I submitted a support ticket on this one over 3 hours ago. I’d expect a mail server failure to be listed on the status page, but this one is marked as “Resolved.”
It sure doesn’t look resolved from my perspective.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:14 am
still not working for me, can’t log in,. can’t change passwords… really sucks, big time.
What is goiung on over there????
July 29th, 2007 at 1:29 pm
I am still having some spacey mail problems. It’s okay, though. I have a femail (also kinda spacey) to help me get through it.
July 30th, 2007 at 12:02 am
It’s now FIVE days of mail not working!
This is absolutely unacceptabale.
DreamHost support staff told the problem was fixed, but that’s not true!!!
July 30th, 2007 at 7:31 am
I’m trying to send mail (my server is postal) using webmail and it’s giving me a sender quota error.
I don’t understand. It’s the first email I’ve sent today. Might be a disk full at dreamhost, or some other error there, but I haven’t used webmail in a while…
July 30th, 2007 at 10:49 am
Spacey is having login issues again. Started about 5 mins ago for us.
July 30th, 2007 at 10:51 am
Correction: not Spacey - Postal. I had thought all my accounts were on the same server, but apparently not. Actually if the problem stays on Postal I really don’t care. That’s just my personal account.
July 30th, 2007 at 10:52 am
spacey is down for me to still
July 30th, 2007 at 10:52 am
postal: intermittent problems
July 30th, 2007 at 10:53 am
Having webmail login issues on Randy now too.
July 30th, 2007 at 10:54 am
It’s borked again. Mail server is not accepting connections via POP or IMAP (webmail)
July 30th, 2007 at 10:56 am
Is anyone else having problems with randy? I’m unable to read email.
July 30th, 2007 at 10:56 am
I’m having problems on Randy also now. Just started about 5 min ago
July 30th, 2007 at 10:56 am
It isn’t fixed yet. Can we do this on the weekend sometime and not during the week?
July 30th, 2007 at 10:57 am
postal mail server is DOWN
July 30th, 2007 at 10:58 am
Now Spacey took a crap too. All is despair.
July 30th, 2007 at 10:58 am
Fine on Saturday but messed up again today. No mail coming through now. C’mon guys!
July 30th, 2007 at 10:59 am
we are on postal and it just started 5 minutes ago also.
July 30th, 2007 at 11:00 am
Postal is up. Like I said, intermittent..
July 30th, 2007 at 11:01 am
