Rack Consolidation!
In an effort to continue bringing you, our customers, our amazingly low prices, we’re consolidating some of our racks that are mostly empty, so we can reuse them without buying all new racks!
To do this, we need to move a few servers around. Tonight at around 2am we’ll be moving the following servers:
vito
crusty
destro
ouzo
baseline
zartan
snowdrop
The downtime per machine should be no more than 30 minutes, and we will update this post when the moves have been completed.
Update 2:03am PST: We are starting to move the servers. We will update this post when the moves have been completed!
Update: 3:27am PST: with the exception of snowdrop, everything is set. Snowdrop is in a different rack, so we’re doing that now.
Update: 3:41am PST: snowdrop is back up now.
All of the moves have been completed. Please contact support if you have additional problems! Thank you!

Translation: “In order to keep money for ourselves, instead of spending it on our customers, we will be trying to squeeze more servers into the racks we own, resulting in hours of downtime.”
Ahhah I’m just being whiny for the the sake of being whiny; enjoy the extra pocket change DH.

asdf>> don’t whine this is a company and you don’t pay enough to acc have the right to complain… The support is fast and nice when you have to get help and there are few downtimes and they allways explain what has happened… So if you got a bigshot company/page DONT USE DREAMHOSTS cheap programs use someone that acc says “100% uptime guarantee”

asdf: For god sake, what is the matter with people. you do not deserve to complain, this is a great company. I have been hosting here for years and only have one noticeable bit of downtime. This is the cheapest and most reliable hosting you can get for this price. If you want to see how much “fun” it is running dedicated servers, go and try for yourself. I know, I run one as well as paying for DreamHost and it ain’t easy. Go take a nap. Damn kids.

It’s nice knowing that asdf is complaining cause Dreamhost is not trying to waist, and are getting the most out of what they got. Why must you complain that Dreamhost is keeping thier customers updated and give warnings about upcoming downtime?

A site hosted by you (userstyles.org) is pretty much unreachable, and it’s not the site holder’s fault. Better look into it.
July 31st, 2007 at 8:59 am
ASDF, what’s keeping you from leaving DH to spend more money at a host that has to charge more to make up for not efficiently using their space?
While you’re at it, go ahead and list the companies that credit their success to being stupid & inefficient.

PANEL.DREAMHOST.COM is down!
What is the procedure for contacting dreamhost when their contact mechanism is down?
July 31st, 2007 at 10:30 am
So, who does one contact dreamhost about dreamhost when the whole panel is down?
July 31st, 2007 at 10:33 am
that is so funny that we posted the same comment at the same time! are you my father?
July 31st, 2007 at 10:33 am
What a hoot! If DreamHost walked on water, some twit would comment on this blog that “DreamHost can’t swim”.
July 31st, 2007 at 10:34 am
It’s back up. But, thankfully, it was officially recorded for all time at this post. good work, men.
July 31st, 2007 at 11:31 am
You don’t have to notify anyone when the panel is down. They use the same panel and know instantly when it’s down.

how about some pictures, this is the boringest blog ever!

I’m not in the business of giving companies the riot act in public, but we’re having continual (months and months) troubles with unreliable email servers and corrupted email accounts. Like right now. None of it works. My co-workers have given an ultimatum: any more of this and we’re outa here. That’s after me trying their patience over and over with words of ‘patience’. I admire that they’re trying to supply a cheap and useful product. But for me, too much of the cheap is coming through.
July 31st, 2007 at 2:24 pm
If we’re looking at another couple weeks of continual outages like we had a few months ago, my clients simply don’t have the patience for it. I had finally settled the ruffled feathers after a few months of problem-free service, but this is the third business day with a mail outage.
It doesn’t matter if it only lasts an hour or so, if it happens mid-day when everyone in the office notices, the damage is done. And I don’t need some jerk to tell me to go outside and enjoy the day or ask what I expect for what I’m paying and tell me how valuable the service is. I’m paying about $1000 a year, buddy. For that, I expect my email to not take a dump every day. How unreasonable of me, I know.
July 31st, 2007 at 4:06 pm
And here come the whiners with the “we went with a cheap host because we want the best of everything” routine. And even one that thinks $1,000/year is a ton of money.
First, you get the same service on the L1 - L4 plans, so paying extra for more resources does not change reliability.
If mail reliability is a priority, then quit being cheapskates and use a MAIL host for the mail, rather than doing it all through the web host.
This isn’t rocket science. It’s common sense.
It’s hilarious when people start in with the “my clients” “my coworkers” crap. Just tell them the truth, which is that the price of single shared hosting account is what their happiness is worth to you and they’ll just have to get over it. Otherwise, dry up the tears, blow the dust off of your credit card and pay for some redundancy. Naaa… why do something productive when whining on a host’s blog is so much easier.
July 31st, 2007 at 4:15 pm
Bite me, freak.
July 31st, 2007 at 4:34 pm
Nope. I might catch stupidity, assuming it’s contagious.
July 31st, 2007 at 4:48 pm
Too late to worry about that, I’m afraid.
July 31st, 2007 at 5:24 pm
If I was stupid, I’d be the one here whining about how my life is falling apart because of a single shared hosting plan.
Just tell your customers that you’re whining as hard as you can in blog comments, so the service they’re receiving from you should improve any day now.
July 31st, 2007 at 5:40 pm
“If I was stupid, I’d be the one here whining ”
As it is, you’re just the one trolling. Might I suggest greener pastures? IRC? LiveJournal? You know, somewhere where your talents might get wider viewing. You’re selling yourself short by pissing in such a small pool.
July 31st, 2007 at 8:36 pm
If you don’t like being called out for your stupidity and inability to take care of your clients, then maybe you shouldn’t have come here and made it public info. But since you did, get used to the pointing and laughing.
Hopefully, your clients will come to their senses and go with someone a little more competent.
