RESOLVED Webmail outage
We are currently experiencing some issues with our webmail system and are looking into the issue right now.
We will post an update here when things are working again!
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Update: 12:04pm: It appears the database server that handles the session management for webmail decided to freak out. Our database engineers are working on the issue and we should have it resolved shortly!
Update: 12:36pm: The database server issue has now been fixed, and webmail should be functioning normally again! If you have any issues, please contact support!

It’s not just Webmail! IMAP is out too.
August 14th, 2007 at 11:57 am
Good to know. I like having this site so I can check these things — it’s somehow comforting to know that somebody knows that there’s a problem.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:03 pm
we’ve been getting Sender Quota Rejection messages on POP accounts when sending from from one of our accounts to another.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
It is reassuring but whats up with it being a low severity. oh well. I wonder what issues they are having, any one care to take a guess?
August 14th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
grrrr
August 14th, 2007 at 12:05 pm
IMAP uses the same resources as webmail, so if webmail is down, IMAP is down.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
man… when webmail is down, it really blows. now I have to sit at my desk all afternoon and actually WORK. come on!
August 14th, 2007 at 12:07 pm
Except that my work just tried to send me something and recieved, “_Recipient_address_rejected:_User_unknown”; they sent me an IM, but how much other email will vanish?
August 14th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
ALL email is down. this is NOT low severity. Please prioritize it appropriately and fix this!
August 14th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
Seems like you guys have lots of issues. I’m somewhat regretting switching hosting with you. I’ll continue to keep an eye out and if this continues, I’m out.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
@Craig: yea, sorry about the low severity. When I’m making posts here it’s usually because something is royally busted, and I don’t want to waste too much time writing the post instead of figuring out / fixing the issue
@greg: not necessarily. This particular problem is the database server webmail uses for its session information. Imap doesn’t use sessions, since imap is a persistent connection.
and before you guys all berate me for making this comment instead of fixing stuff, it’s out of my hands now. It’s being worked on!
August 14th, 2007 at 12:16 pm
The error I’m getting:
Warning: mysql_pconnect() [function.mysql-pconnect]: Lost connection to MySQL server during query in /usr/local/squirrelmail-1.4.9a/session_mysql.php on line 61
Can’t connect to 192.168.10.10 as squirrelmail
MySQL Error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query
August 14th, 2007 at 12:25 pm
It’s a normal issue. At least for me you guys are the best. I’m sure soon will be fix it.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
Webmail is working now for me
August 14th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
The only regret I have is that you guys don’t seem to have a call center, but the response by your technicians is always fast, professional and I’ve had fewer issues with Dreamhost than any other hosting service I’ve tried.
Keep up the good work! And get a phone line.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:33 pm
kitchen- so what happens to email that is being received during the outtage? Will the messages be lost, or will they be delivered when service comes back up?
Thx-
August 14th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
@Doug: webmail doesn’t handle incoming email. It will all get delivered as usual as if we didn’t even have webmail.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:40 pm
Working, thanks.
August 14th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
Thx kitchen…
August 14th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
Dave: For $8/month, what do you expect? Besides, other “budget” ISPs have the same problems. The only difference is that they don’t tell you about the problems, so you’re always left guessing.
August 14th, 2007 at 5:03 pm
Hm, it was back up, but now all of a sudden it seems a bit dodgy. Slow-ly, slow-ly logging in and out of various accounts.
August 14th, 2007 at 5:07 pm
Yeah, the panel is hanging when trying to make email adds/changes on Spacey
August 14th, 2007 at 5:08 pm
Down for me again too.
Or at least, VERY slow.
August 14th, 2007 at 5:14 pm
Panel still slow for me but stopped hanging, which is all I needed.
August 14th, 2007 at 5:14 pm
The migration away after too much time at Dreamhost has started…. Yeah!
August 14th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Also, the panel is extremely slow………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
August 14th, 2007 at 5:17 pm
Yes, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay slow! Even the panel to check things out!
What’s the “other” way to send trouble tickets? Not that they probably don’t know that there’s trouble again.
August 14th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
Cannot access control panel and cannot upload to server.
August 14th, 2007 at 10:20 pm
It says its fixed, but it is no way fixed.
August 15th, 2007 at 12:33 am
Odd thing is my Treo which is set to get mail using the m###### instead of user@domain.com as described in Dreamhost wiki, using authentication key, appears to be working properly. At least it has what is now on my webmail, but hasn’t been received on the desktop which uses user@domain.com.
Maybe that’s a clue…..
August 15th, 2007 at 5:50 am
All email addresses that I have move to your servers are not recieving mail. Everyone sending mail gets a rejected message saying: Recipient address rejected: Access denied. Please help. This is urgent.

August 15th, 2007 at 9:50 am
ours JUST went out.
August 15th, 2007 at 10:10 am
We went down last week, back up, now have been down for much of the morning and afternoon on the east coast.
August 15th, 2007 at 10:14 am
We’ve lost POP3, but our IMAP users seem to be fine. The dreamhoststatus page was bringing up a Wordpress error “cannot connect to mySQL server” page for a few minutes.
August 15th, 2007 at 10:29 am
Webmail is working for us. It seems to be just the POP3 access.
August 15th, 2007 at 10:35 am
Problem with POP3 and SMTP acsess.
The server is asking for to passwords and not accepted the typed passwords.
August 15th, 2007 at 10:35 am
webmail and thunderbird are down for me
August 15th, 2007 at 10:38 am
Yep, it’s pretty much POP3 - webmail fine, no acknowledgment or post about this so far. Got the wordpress error as well a few times.
August 15th, 2007 at 10:53 am
I use mail.[domain].com for the POP3 mailserver addy.
August 15th, 2007 at 11:08 am
Broken again…
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Too many connections in /usr/local/squirrelmail-1.4.9a/functions/imap_general.php on line 456
1044: Access denied for user ’squirrelmail’@'192.168.10.0/255.255.255.0′ to database ‘dreamhost’
August 15th, 2007 at 11:12 am
AGAIN. Boo. I can get into squirrelmail, but it refuses to load any of my subfolders.
This is seriously annoying– two days in a row during the heaviest business period of the day.
August 15th, 2007 at 11:12 am
I’m smarter than to use DH’s webmail because of their constant downtime, but my problem right now is that I happen to have downtime on my site at the PERFECT times. Right when I choose to update or post to Wordpress. Just fucking great.
Oh and, get your Panel on the host you have this website on… it seems SO MUCH MORE RELIABLE.
August 15th, 2007 at 11:14 am
I’m getting the same error as josemaX for webmail, and I’m having trouble sending through the SMTP server, too. Mail retrieval is behaving unusually slow in general.
August 15th, 2007 at 11:15 am
____>>>Still not getting any email here eastern time, since this morning for any of my domains.
August 15th, 2007 at 11:16 am
Intermittent loss of connectivity to db, since approximately 9:00est today. Is this happening to anyone else?
August 15th, 2007 at 11:16 am
Webmail down for all of my domains as well. Control panel is down, too. Major effin meltdown today. Not good for business.
August 15th, 2007 at 11:46 am
we’re down, too. lots of people complaining and people are dying!!! right now it’s 11:48am PDT
August 15th, 2007 at 11:47 am
Seems to me that dreamhost has been having some big problems today. For about 30 minutes dreamhoststatus.com wasn’t coming up (first a wordpress blog error, then a 404 not found error). Our email has been intermittent at best. And dreamhost.com as well as the control panel were both not coming up. Nice.
August 15th, 2007 at 11:47 am
I was having LESS issues when they said it was down. Now it is totally hosed and their status - when I can even get that - says it is resolved???
I’ve checked this with people in another state and they can’t access either.
August 15th, 2007 at 11:50 am
Yep - down for me. Yikes!!! Almost exactly 24 hours after the last one… Some sort of out of control cron task?
