I'm sure I've seen that I CAN HAZ CHEEZBURGER site around – I think they have a blog at wordpress. They're always updated. I think they must be pretty popular.
I actually remember the phrase 'I can haz Cheezburger' from a veggietales episode. Those who don't know Veggietales have seriously missed out.
Maybe the phrase comes from there... it was quite a funny song. Even in my twenties, those kids programs like VeggieTales are still the best!

When I saw Dreamhoststatus was down, I figured it would be tough going, so I spent the next six hours browsing some site called "I Can Has Cheezburger." I told everyone I was investigating solutions at the time. Father, is there hope for my sinner's soul?

I'd also like you to address the dreamhoststatus.com problems. As I recall, you set this up after a major outage as a means of communicating system status. Up until recently, it's worked okay. However, for this most recent issue, weaknesses were exposed in both the DNS issues affecting resolution to dreamhoststatus.com and its the database powering the "blog" being inaccessible from dreamhoststatus.com.

What did you learn and what will you be doing about it in the future?

I'd like to echo some of the sentiments others have expressed regarding inaccessibility of dreamhoststatus.com. One of the reasons I'm more willing to tolerate outages with Dreamhost than I would be with other hosts is the generally transparency of the support process. If I find I can't access my site, I can be satisfied that someone it aware of the problem and is working to fix it just by checking dreamhoststatus.com.

Given the importance of dreamhoststatus.com as a source of information for all users in the event of an outage, I would like to recommend that you host it not simply on 'another network' within the same data center but instead with an entirely separate hosting provider (someone who will give you 20MB of space for $100 a month, but guarantee 99.999% availibility). Or, as Hank suggested, setup a free Geocities account and post information there.

Why the heck is dreamhoststatus.com hosted on the same network as the rest of the dreamhost stuff? I couldn't get information about the outage at certain times because none of the DH resources (incl. this) worked. Why not host dreamhoststatus.com somewhere else? Heck, even a Geocities page would be more useful during episodes like this.
