Sorry Angry Dog, I didn't realize you were a troll on these boards. I don't communicate with trolls since it is an effort in futility. I apologize and retract my question to you from the other thread. Not to mention, it sounds like you are getting kickbacks from MediaTemple for pushing their product on a competitor's site, which is generally bad posturing and not good for the ole' credibility factor.

Anyways, enjoy your time trolling here on DH, let me know if you need anything at all and I'll promptly forward your request to my recycle bin.

I have been promoting dreamhost for the last two years and brought them over 2000 customers looking at my rewards stats.. I really would like to keep promoting them but it makes it harder with all this downtime ..

I have another account for 9.99 at another host that I am much happier with .. Its less configurable but their downtime isnt as bad...

Please get your act together dreamhost..

Hey Red.. now lets just assume, for arguments sake, there are 500,000 user accounts. A significant number of those would be expensive dedicated hosting accounts, but lets just assume they're ALL $7.95 a month shared hosting accounts. That comes out to $4million a MONTH in income, or $48million a year, and that is a very conservative estimate - in reality the money rolling in to DH is very likely significantly more. For that kind of money, I'd have a damn good set up - certainly not one that craps out on a regular basis month after month and even week after week as it has lately. Yes it's good value on the surface for subscribers, but I think, considering the sheer volume of users and thus their collective purchasing power, the service should be far better than what it is. I joined early this year after hearing good things about DH, but it seems I joined just when things started going downhill, and now I've finally had enough and moved to MediaTemple. A bit more expensive, but there's a 99.9% uptime guarantee, and each and any month it falls under that, you get your money back. Add onto that faster servers and modules that are kept up to date, and it is more than worth the few extra dollars a month for their gridhosting. I'm not trying to push them in particular - there are plenty of others - but it's an example of what users should expect for their money, as cheap as it is.

My favorite comments are from those who boast about their own personal servers that are, say, mounted in one's closet or any other room in their home and compare that their uptime is far superior to Dreamhost's. How about multiplying your little router and switch to handle hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of user accounts and god knows how much bandwidth would be needed for an adequate compare, not to mention then tracking all of the systems to make sure everything is running and everyone is happy, and then multiplying your server's hardware to handle all of these requests from all of the different customers and their own website visitors. I am sure that this "superior" closet mounted server would be able to handle such loads without even blinking an eye, no? I wonder how many users this closet server handles...1? I wonder what kind of bandwidth we are talking here...DSL? Cable? That's rough. I wonder how many terabytes of bandwidth are being pushed through this home DSL line.

Let's not forget about the rule of multiples here. What a silly comparison.
