OK, so one of my sites is apparently on ikari… . How do I find out what webserver my sites run on? I didn’t see anything obvious in the panel.

would this outage effect mysql stuff? My forum does not work at the moment, figuring it has something to do with this.
September 14th, 2007 at 10:04 am
I am having mysql problems too. Wordpress has almost ground to a halt. Looks like it may be a busy day at dreamhost.
September 14th, 2007 at 10:23 am
i thouht i was on paramount server, but all my sites are down too

I’m having some issues with my site, but it’s on Hephaestus. Why is it whenever they seem to have solved an issue with one server, other issues seem to arrive on other servers? Honestly, I should’ve known better than to sign up with an overseller.

What, absolutely no mention of yesterdays outage..? we’re speculating that all the folk that are fed up with DH and their abyssmal management of their network infrastructure have left and all that are left now are the sheep. Well, this Black Sheep is outta here asap. have a nice life DH.

espresso is down - dreamhost panel is down!
September 14th, 2007 at 2:09 pm
Hey, I am a new client, and my sites are on PAN, the thing is going like dogmeat. C’mon guys, like what it up ? This is terrible !
September 14th, 2007 at 3:24 pm
webserver is taking too long to respond. i can log in, but shell response is also incredibly slow. been pretty patient over the past year, but persist slowness interspersed by complete unusability really makes the hosting service not feasible. (one site is on absinthe, another is on lira, so doesn’t seem to be specific to any particular machine.)
September 14th, 2007 at 3:33 pm
This is such a BS…right when I need to do a demo for my customer the site goes to shit!
September 14th, 2007 at 3:40 pm
I suspect that their network is on its way to a meltdown again. Bourbon has been hosed all day with loads over 300. I’m guessing this is the network and the machine is having problems getting to the fileserver, based on the usual probs DH has. Look at the load average on your machine and see what it’s at.

They will tell you about one (only) box that is down. Then tell you it’s back up in ayet your site is down and confirmed down by people all across the nation. What’s up with that ?
September 14th, 2007 at 3:46 pm
How do you look at the load average for a machine?
Thanks
R.
September 14th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
All of my sites on Jezebel are down.
September 14th, 2007 at 3:50 pm
On the command line type ‘uptime’
Before Bourbon became completely unresponsive about 30 seconds ago, it was running at ….
[bourbon]$ uptime
15:24:42 up 6:00, 1 user, load average: 301.03, 245.05, 129.50
Ideally you really don’t want to see over 2 (x num_processors)

Thanks Roach
September 14th, 2007 at 4:07 pm
chex:~> uptime
16:07:10 up 1 day, 15:22, 1 user, load average: 9.54, 8.52, 7.62
September 14th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
My site and email are down. I’m on Archibald.
wheeeee…
September 14th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
Your machine really isn’t bad for a shared hosting machine. Bourbon … it’s kinda a “type-a-command-and-wait-2-seconds” kind of thing right now.

Very disappointing service!
September 14th, 2007 at 5:03 pm
I just sent an email to support@dreamhost.com (as it says at the top of this page) and had it bounced back saying I must send it through their panel. Problem is, their panel is down as well as everthing else. Brilliant!!
Anyone have any good suggestions for other webhosts? I just have a personal website, a photoblog, and basic email.
September 15th, 2007 at 1:35 am
hmm looks like it’s down again, in less than 24 hours since the last outage. Not a good sign.
September 15th, 2007 at 5:10 am
There is something inherently unfair on having a clubbing site down on Saturday evening (Tokyo time) !
Granted I have very little traffic and this is only a small bump, but the frustration is still there… not to mention that none of my other sites is working.
Could we please have less downtime on weekends ?
September 15th, 2007 at 10:34 am
My websites are still down.
September 15th, 2007 at 5:55 pm
Ridiculous, all my sites and shell access are STILL slow as hell in the mentioned server:
[ikari]$ uptime
17:54:33 up 8:20, 1 user, load average: 141.52, 82.29, 71.19
September 16th, 2007 at 5:36 am
John - it tells you in your account summary in the control panel what servers your site is hosted on.

What I’d like to have is another webhost that is (about) as cheap as Dream host to have a back up of my sites on for redundacy. (I got eight slots for NS where I have my domains registered). Then for half the price of the more reliable webhosts (which are still not 100% and don’t oversell you near as much capacity) I’d be rock solid and copper bottomed.
Does anybody here have any suggestions for other providers that offer a lot for cheap like dream host? Their reliability would not have to be stellar (the redundancy would do the trick) but for my purposes they would have to be a real host that gives you mysql, cgi etc, and allows multiple (resold) domains.

My websites are still down
September 17th, 2007 at 5:16 am
Let’s move our sites out of DH. They just don’t worry about it, but we do a lot, drives me insane a customer calling me every week because his website is down. I’ll start moving now! Don’t you?
September 17th, 2007 at 9:31 am
my site is down… again…
September 17th, 2007 at 9:32 am
does anyone know if hostgator is any good?
September 17th, 2007 at 10:42 am
Down again, just like last friday, and again is horrible timing. This is money and time wasted for a lot of us.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:58 am
It’s funny cause i am not on that server according to my CP, i am not on this one.
just got a answer saying that it’s my ISP. i am in asia. sounds weird.
is anybody online and would be nice to see if my site is on?
thanks
regarding, other hosting, i have another site on a mediatemple.net server. yes it’s more expensive, but never got a problem for 3 years. i was thinking on moving it to DH but i think i’ll stick to it.

^ For me, your page loads, but it doesn’t contain anything except some HTTP headers, a META tag, and an empty BODY tag.
I note that the extension indicates that you’re using PHP - you might want to check your code.
Why would something being wrong with your ISP be weird? As far as I know, there’s no such thing as a perfect ISP.

Every host has problems. Dreamhost does what they can to fix it and is pretty good about it. If you move your sites, it will just happen somewhere else.
I am fairly certain Dreamhost doesn’t want to lose business.
September 17th, 2007 at 2:34 pm
I can’t connect to Apollo too.
bad… bad… bad…

September 17th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
ive been opening tickets for a week with no improvement; according to their responses they’ve corrected ‘the problem’ 5 times. ive got a default wordpress installation and it takes anywhere from 5 to 25 seconds to load a page. today its down. im on eros and tweety mysql.
they oversell.
i give them another week and im getting a refund and off to hostgator. lucky to be in guarantee time-frame.
