Network Issues causing downtime and slowness
We are currently seeing some network issues that are causing downtime and slowness to one cage in one of our datacenters. We are actively investigating the issue now and will update this post as soon as we have further information. Sorry for the inconvenience this is causing you, we will have everything working again as soon as we can. Please keep your eye on this post for further information.
UPDATE: Network issues have ceased and we are seeing things returning back to normal. We also noticed that there was DoS attack going on as well which we have handled. All traffic is now moving normally. We also believe that some additions we made in the data center contributed to the issues as well. Sorry about this. Things should be much improved from when this was first posted.

My sites on indira just came back up. Thanks for the quick fix.
September 17th, 2007 at 2:54 pm

September 17th, 2007 at 2:56 pm

Hope its resolved soon.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:04 pm

September 17th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
I’ve been experiencing extremely slow service on daedelus the past several days, plus outages. I’m hoping that they get this resolved soon!!
September 17th, 2007 at 3:07 pm

September 17th, 2007 at 3:11 pm
man… i left dreamhost last year because of all the downtime issues and came back thinking there’s no way it could happen as bad as it did before. wtf!?
September 17th, 2007 at 3:11 pm
They’ll fix it! Keep the faith!
September 17th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
Re: Vael
Luckily you have a 97 day money back guarantee to take advantage of. Give Dreamhost a try for a least a week or 3 and then if you still aren’t satisfied, get your money back.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:14 pm
Yeah,
I’m on the skinner server and I’m experiencing a lot of issues like Slowness, downtime and inability to connect to my ftp ;/
Though, it started yesterday, not today ;/
September 17th, 2007 at 3:21 pm
on gir, no connectivity. stop sucking.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:33 pm
Skittle was down.. then up.. now down again.. “Whatever you wiggled.. DO IT AGAIN!”
September 17th, 2007 at 3:35 pm

September 17th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
Yup, my sites were down and now up again, too. Still slow though.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:43 pm

September 17th, 2007 at 4:01 pm
We have over 20 sites on this server (apollo)….hurry please…
September 17th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
ikari is slow due to this problem it appears. Hope it is fixed soon!
September 17th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
My site seems to be working fine on skittle now.
September 17th, 2007 at 6:01 pm
Wish all the boo hoo babies out there who can not handle a small amount of downtime or slow network would just PO.
I am yet to be advised that any host is any better and from experiences none have been. Servage was bloody shocking. not only was my site down a lot they decided stuff other things up with my site as well. DH is the only host that I know will report problems publicly and to me that is a great thing to be transparent.
September 17th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Jase: Uh, maybe people wouldn’t complain so much if there weren’t so much downtime. Jesus Christ. Maybe you should actually read the numerous entries in this blog, and you’d realize the amount of downtime is ridiculous, even for a cheap host.
September 17th, 2007 at 6:45 pm
116 seconds to load a page !!
September 17th, 2007 at 7:01 pm
Why always network problem? always site slow“`down“`blur blur“`
September 17th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
My site(s) just went down. Real bummer as I had a client jut move to DH, please come back soon and save my but
September 17th, 2007 at 10:02 pm
Yeah, most of my hosted sites went down as well. Really irritating considering I have a time sensitive project that was supposed to be due in the morning.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:08 pm
Gosh. Site seeems to be loading real slow. Please do something.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
All of my sites are still down and I cannot access the Dreamhost panel to report it either.
But there’s no problem accessing the Dreamhost Sales site. Unbelievable.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
All my sites are down. Can’t open a ticket because the web panel is down! Time to move to another host. I’ve given it 9 months and it’s been mediocre at best.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:48 pm
All my sites and panel are down. It’s 1:47am EST.
September 17th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
Panel is back up as well as blog. Main site is down as well as my personal website on price. It has been slow for about a week but now it’s unreachable.
September 17th, 2007 at 11:15 pm
Panel is still down (2:13 AM EST), and SMTP mail server as well.
September 18th, 2007 at 1:00 am
My control panel is still down. And it’s in this state for a long time.
September 18th, 2007 at 3:53 am
YOOHOO 100& down (web, ftp,…) . please investigate asap
September 18th, 2007 at 4:06 am
All my sites and email on Yerba are still down. Can’t even reach the control panel site or the dreamhost home page.
September 18th, 2007 at 4:07 am
I still can’t reach my panel and can’t ping my mail server. Webmail is up and my site is crawling. Hard to request support without the panel. I would say that “resolved” is a bit premature.
– D
September 18th, 2007 at 4:28 am
doesnt seem to be resolved as far as I can see. the site is down, the control panel s down, and I cant even get in to leave a comment on the web panel from the status blog.
what the heck?
September 18th, 2007 at 4:31 am
There is currently an issue with Global Crossing’s router to Dreamhost.

September 18th, 2007 at 4:33 am
My site’s down and I can’t even submit a complaint via WebPanel. Praying a DH’er is reading these boards.
What’s the purpose of an Emergency Status page if up-to-date info isn’t being supplied?
September 18th, 2007 at 4:36 am
My 3 sites are also down and I am on a customer deadline. You guys are costing me money! I can access email via squirrell mail but not from my outlook, and I can’t get to my site or to the DH Control Panel. I have a critical file that I need to get to my website and can’t get access. How can you say you are back to normal?
September 18th, 2007 at 5:21 am
I use dreamhost because they’re cheap! not because they are reliable! If you want reliable service, go somewhere else!
September 18th, 2007 at 5:44 am
Not resolved. All of our email and sites are down.
September 18th, 2007 at 5:51 am
still down — 8:48 am Tuesday, Sept 18.
webpanel down.
email down.
please clarify. be honest and do not placate for marketing or other interests.
September 18th, 2007 at 6:02 am
Still down - 8:57 AM Sept 18 - please tell us what is going on. No email, no website. Clients are going to start calling. this is not pretty.
September 18th, 2007 at 6:03 am
webmail and admin panel down!!!!! very frustrated with lack of info on dreamhoststatus.com… I know it’s early on the west coast but for pete’s sake someone wake up, inform your customers, and get DH services up!!!
September 18th, 2007 at 6:06 am
cr*p! I meant EMAIL (pop) is down!!
September 18th, 2007 at 6:22 am
all sites, everything, is down
Please don’t post that you’ve resolved issues that are clearly not resolved, it makes me think you just won’t fix them!!
September 18th, 2007 at 6:43 am
Hmm I love that we have people telling us that DH is great because it’s cheap.
Is that the DH message? We suck, but at least we’re cheap?
I don’t use DH because they are cheap: there are tons of other hosting providers with better up-time & the same prices. Though, they didn’t oversell and promise 100gigs of bandwidth that aren’t really there…
no, I choose Dreamhost because I like the companies ideals (employee owned, environmentally responsible) and their apparent transparency: but, over time, my faith in that transparency is diminshing.
Please, do not post that everything is resolved when you have customers with inaccessible sites & e-mail down & you are upgrading your mediawiki installs…
September 18th, 2007 at 6:46 am
All my sites are down - dead, gone, unavailable.
PLEASE HELP!
I can’t even get into the control panel to leave a message for Support. If anyone can get in, let them know the problem IS NOT solved!
P.S. “Contact Support” page just now loaded - text only, no graphics or styling, and none of the links are working. What on earth is going on out there??
September 18th, 2007 at 6:46 am
@Vlad: Thanks for the information; it appears to be completely correct. I like DreamHost, and have used them for years– even when (as today) their services go down for a bit, they’re still a *long* ways above any other web provider below 5x the cost. I, for one, will keep using them.
(Now if only we could get rid of GlobalCrossing….
)
September 18th, 2007 at 6:46 am
I can’t get to https://panel.dreamhost.com/ to see what’s going on!
September 18th, 2007 at 6:53 am
I can’t access my webpanel or my webmail. I thought this was resolved?
September 18th, 2007 at 7:01 am
my transfer rates have been at dialup speeds for the last week!
ive spent 12 hours trying to do a hours worth of work.
dont waste time posting here, go right to the BBB.
September 18th, 2007 at 7:03 am
Most of my sites are still down.
September 18th, 2007 at 7:11 am
My sites are still down. I don’t see how this is resolved.
September 18th, 2007 at 7:14 am
All my sites are down.

There’s something going on in the East Coast. People in Virginia and India can get to the DH site, but not me in Boston. I can’t get to my.yahoo.com and some other big sites unless I go through a proxy somewhere else. Is it the Global Crossing switch?
September 18th, 2007 at 7:30 am
my site is down. My email is down. It’s making me down.

Hmmm… maybe this means I supposed to play hooky from work today!
Still.. would be nice if this was fixed.
September 18th, 2007 at 7:47 am
Dreamhost.com is down…where’s the status on that???
September 18th, 2007 at 7:54 am
I can’t get into Dreamhost.com, either; no ftp, no web panel, no email. I can get a Contact Support page (after a long load time) but it’s unstyled/no graphics; when I click on the Contact link, it returns the same page. The Account Test tells me that my server if very busy. Eh??
I am East Coast, in Vermont. I can get into Google/Gmail/Ebay/BBC, etc.
September 18th, 2007 at 7:55 am
Yes - why is this problem not posted on the Dreamhost Emergency Status site?
Is anybody out there?!
September 18th, 2007 at 8:01 am
One of my three sites on a single account is down.
September 18th, 2007 at 8:07 am
I am also on the East Coast (NH).
Anybody know how long have these sites been down?
September 18th, 2007 at 8:14 am
Hye Guys,
This was posted earlier and hidemyass does get you to your webmail, at least that’s the only way I got to webmail

I’m in Baltimore. I have no issues with the panel, webmail, or any of my sites.
September 18th, 2007 at 8:26 am
I haven’t been able to get to my websites, the DH panel, or anything since this morning. DH reliability is really going down the tubes. Mail is up and running, but I don’t know for how long. If things don’t improve, I’ll be moving to someplace more reliable.
September 18th, 2007 at 8:31 am
I am in NH too. its now almost 11:30AM EST. I have been trying to access my clients website since 5:30AM - itsw been down at least since then. and if I read this board correctly - its been down long before that.
Still nothing. No word from dreamhost.
my clients sites are down, we cant get into their web panel, cant do a thing.
VERY VERY disconcerted with Dreamhost.
If someone who has access to support - and could at least get a message over there and let them know that we want some answers and an ETA on the fix - it would be greatly appreciated. otherwise we are stranded here… and apparently no one gives a crap.
no offense, but I dont think it would be very appropriate to give my client the hidemyass.com link. extremely un- professional.
September 18th, 2007 at 8:32 am
@Al Geist - It’s not DH. I’ve been on the panel for the last half hour, and the site you linked in your post works for me.
September 18th, 2007 at 8:34 am
@ Wendy - see above. This is not a DH problem. There is apparently something going on with the internet backbone in New England.
I’m constantly amazed by how many people who post in these comments assume that the very last link in the chain (their host) is the problem, without thinking about all the links in between.
September 18th, 2007 at 8:56 am
additional comments are to brasscrest -
Dont be so amazed - I was looking directly at DH because I could access every other site that I surfed to except for my clients site and their control panel here on DH, and I also could not access any support on DH.
No other site seemed to be effected as far as I could see from where I sit in New England.
But on the bright side, it seems like everything is working again.
September 18th, 2007 at 9:20 am
I’ve had problems since last week’s outage…It was working on SAturday and some of Sunday, but then it stopped working properly. My emails have all gone unanswered… except typical canned responsese… and I don’t have a clue. EVen their DREAMHOSTSTATUS site (this one) wasn’t connecting!… Panel is fine.
Clearly this problem is odd.
September 18th, 2007 at 9:40 am
Impossible!
My sites are completely lagged!
All afternoon between 12h and 19h all stay OFF.
I’m have much problems because this.
September 18th, 2007 at 9:49 am
LOL!!!! the usual eh
glad i’m not on dreamhost anymore
i moved 3 of my sites… they’re fast, always up and fully efficient
September 18th, 2007 at 9:56 am
Talentstruck.com is having terrible terrible slow load time if at all. And there are not even any users on it at this time just 2 staff members.
September 18th, 2007 at 10:09 am
Comment to brasscrest: I have to agree with Wendy. I checked out other sites and the only one that showed any problem was DH. I have other friends that host sites in Oregon, Alaska, and CA and all their sites were up and running fine. Contrary to your assumption that we jumped on DH without reason just because it was the last link in the chain. Other sites were checked, and other users throughout the country whom I know host with DH were also contacted. With the exception of a friend in New Mexico, virtually everyone else was either experiencing slow connections, or no connections at all.
September 18th, 2007 at 10:43 am
All my sites are up. I’m making millions of dollars…yaaaa
J/K
September 18th, 2007 at 11:08 am
Now it’s even worse than from when you post it….
September 18th, 2007 at 11:37 am
i just moved my WordPress site to another host in about 1 hr. my pages load in 1-2 secs instead of 25 secs + on dreamhost.
and got my $120 back from dh. im outta this CF
September 18th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
load average: 115.03, 127.78, 96.26
I’d say this makes it “unresolved”
September 18th, 2007 at 12:41 pm
I am getting tired of giving the benefit of the doubt. I have had an account here for 5 years, and these problems are getting more and more frequent. My forums have been dragging thier ass for loadiong since yesterday, and nothing is resolved, when it says it is. It makes it really hard to refer people to come here. I’m sorry. This is my first time commenting on the issues, but I am starting to get fed up.
September 18th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
I agree with Malifecent. The server issues are becoming more and more frequent, and it’s hard to recommend Dreamhost anymore. I hope that they know this.
September 18th, 2007 at 2:55 pm
anyone having problems with blogging or just cgi in general? my blog’s static pages are fine but the backend is hell (can’t publish or do anything similar).
September 18th, 2007 at 4:13 pm
Dreamhost servers go down more than paris hilton!
September 18th, 2007 at 4:49 pm
I dont think your network issues are resolved - I can get to my site ok, but cant even log into dreamhost.
Cant send mail to support cause cant get to the webpanel!
C’mon guys this is getting very frustrating - at least give us a support email address to mail to when the webpanel cant be accessed.
September 18th, 2007 at 5:03 pm
I think DH needs a permanent sticky on the main page that says “Network problems”.
September 18th, 2007 at 6:11 pm
my site is down !
September 19th, 2007 at 5:04 am
stupid sheeple never learn. there’s been problems here for nearly a year. it aint going away.
September 22nd, 2007 at 2:35 am
my site has iframes, some iframes and images dont show up. half broken half works. man i’m really disappointed. i get message something like: “site temp. can not be displayed..blah blah” im on gower.
