Email Address Problems
Some of our customers have been reporting that they’re having issues with editing email addresses, or that all of their addresses are missing via the web panel. We’ve narrowed it down to some MySQL tables that contained address information which were being overwritten by an automated processes. We’re working on getting it back up and running as soon as possible and will restore all of the address information that we have from backups at that time. We’ll make an update here once all the data is restored. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes you.
UPDATE! This should have been fixed up last night (the 19th), sorry for the lack of updates. If you’re still having problems with any of your email addresses not showing up correctly in the panel, please contact support.

Seriously, I am surprised you guys are still in business. I check back every now and again to make sure I made the right decision to leave DH. Clearly I did. I’m with MT now and have literally not experienced 1 issue since switching about 2 months ago. Best of luck…looks like you REALLY need it.

Ha ha ha! Things must not be *that* perfect at your new home, or potential buyers’ remorse wouldn’t even be an issue. If you need to be continually reassured that “you made the right decision”, you might not have!
Since I know stuff breaks on occasion, I’m glad to see these reports because they let me know that things are being dealt with rather then leaving me wondering what is borked and being ignored.

what the fuck? almost 24 hours now. how the fuck is this ‘medium severity’?

Using expletives and posting here will not help you get your problem fixed faster.

The thing that bothers me most about this issue is the “automated process” which is causing the problem. DH has had similar problems with “automated processes” two or three times in the last couple of months (the DNS-eating program that affected the whole network being the most severe). Either they’re not testing these processes adequately or they aren’t monitoring them when they’re running, because they seem to be doing a lot of damage before they are stopped.

Seems all my websites are down too (not just email). sigh

Yes there are issues from time to time, but I am pleased overall with the service and especially so with the transparency and notifications. So, please count this as an unasked-for vote in your favor.

I can log into WebMail, but it’s running very slowly.
This happened for awhile yesterday, and the day before that.

better to know about issues instead of being told nothing….
dreamhost is good value for money and I always find the response times and answers are first class.

@Snadowitz: I agree on the customer support response time. It’s world class. I just wish the uptime can just be improved just a tiiiiiny bit…

Just tried sending email to one of my hosted email accounts…bounced back, “unknown user”…
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Yeah, it’s a real surprise that one of the largest web hosts in the world is still in business. I guess all those customers that choose Dreamhost over the thousands of other hosts are held here at gun point.
Let me guess, you’re surprised that Wal-Mart’s still in business, right?
Wow! Two whole months! Did you learn about them through one of their spamvertisements here? There are plenty of good hosts out there, but there’s no way in hell I’d put MT on that list.

Well, this is interesting. I was out on vacation for two weeks, and come back to find no mail in my account *except* after 9/20 at 8:00 ET. About 13 days is missing totally. Connected to this issue? Timing seems interesting.
I’ve opened a support ticket, but in the past when this has happened, the response is ‘we can’t restore that far back. I manually download my mail, because sometimes when I’m away from home, I want to access things via webmail (password verification emails, etc.). Now, I’ve lost 13 days, and this isn’t the first time this has happened.
I do appreciate the openness of DH, but this sort of technical f-up really has to be recoverable. Does anyone have suggestions on how to avoid this sort of problem in the future? I don’t want to get a new provider, but repeatedly losing email (and this amount in this case) is unacceptable. (The first time it was 3-5 days.)
